Like the Eico 625 and 628, and the Heathkit TC-1, TC-2, TC-3, IT-21, IT-17 and IT-3117 all used the Triplett designed circuit made famous in their model 3413 tube tester. In fact, the test data for all these tube testers is generally interchangeable. This makes for a good sanity test if you think your tube data setting may be wrong(which it occasionally is) Just look up the setting for one of the other testers and use it for comparison testing! The Knight KG-600 series of testers was a bit unique. However. By using separate filament and high voltage secondary windings on the power transformer, instead of a single winding as in other testers, Knight was able to add a gas test, and was able to do so without adding any extra components. This gas test feature is unique to the Knight KG-600 series. None of the other manufacturers of similar testers had it. As these testers were intended to be constructed by persons who may not have access to calibration equipment. Allied Radio included a calibration control for the Line Adjust function only, but made no provision for calibrating the measuring circuits, relying instead on the inherent accuracy provided by using close tolerance components. Proper calibration of these testers requires checking all the components in the measuring circuits, including the meter, and ensuring they are within tolerance. This has been done. Out of tolerance components have been replaced with modern, more stable ones, and this instrument is working properly on all ranges. I've owned many tube testers of most all makes and types. With sockets added to test the newer tubes that were becoming available. In addition to the usual octal, loctal, 7& 9-pin miniature sockets, Eico added 5& 7-pin nuvistor sockets, novar and compactron sockets, plus 7& 9-pin pin straighteners. The 9-pin socket is actually a combination 9& 10-pin miniature socket. The 628 also has a vastly improved roll chart. The old 4. 5, 6& 7-pin sockets are gone to make room for the new ones. But the older tubes can still be tested. In fact, the data is still on the roll chart and in the tube data manual(included) All it takes is a simple adapter you can make for yourself from an old 8-pin tube base and the socket of your choice. The EICO series of test instruments were intended for professional use. And were marketed mostly to radio and TV repairmen through the local electronic parts dealerships, and their construction shows it. The professional looking brushed aluminum panel was designed to inspire confidence in the customer who saw it, and the heavy steel case of this instrument was intended to protect it well. Here is a Sencore TC162 Mighty Mite tube tester that is in very good working condition. It is a nice little portable unit with plenty of functions. I checked the inner electronics for signs of rust or water damage and there is none. All the electronics are super clean. I t comes with its tube manual permanently mounted in the cover. The knob on the right is not original but it fits and works perfectly. VINTAGE B&K DYNA QUIK MODEL 500 TUBE TESTER TESTED WORKS GOOD
Here is a nice early B&K Dyna Quik model 500 in good condition. This unit has been tested with a couple of tubes that were tested on a calibrated tester my friend owns and the tubes tested within 5% of his. The previous owner said he used this to test all his tubes and it worked very well. This tester has a 83 rectifier tube in it. And has a slight hum when powered up but everything seems to work as it should, it also comes with a 1B3GT adapter and the tube chart booklet plus there is a page on the back of the cover. I am also going to sell another B&K model 606 in another auction, check that one out. The case is in good condition with some worn spots and the latch has some rust. I replaced most of the original wires with new vinyl insulated wiring and added a terminal board to better organize the wiring and on which to secure the several resistors. Also improved the bearing arrangement of the chart rollers for smoother action. Refurbished tester has been tested with several tubes from an early short wave receiver and it appears to function as designed. Conar 223 Tube Tester Tested Working
Conar 223 Tube Tester. Several tubes have been tested and this appears to be in good working condition, shown testing a type 41 tube, a 12AU7 and a 5U4 all known good tubes. Includes the Assembly and User manual, the 221-223-C Supplementary chart, a Coletronics 5-2-67 New Tube Releases chart and several other papers that most likely came with it when it was new. This is a very versatile tester that test tubes from the old 4& 5 pin types to the newer Compactron and Decal types. The first socket accommodates the early 4, 5& 6 pin types, the second socket is a small 7 pin for 6B7 type tubes but will not accommodate the large 7 pin types like 53 or 59, while these types are listed in the tube chart one would need to make an adapter to test these tubes or replace the socket, the tester also has the more common mini 7& 9 pin sockets ... moreas well as the Octal, Magnavol and Loctal sockets, the roll chart is good and easily turns. The case is solid but shows its age, the tolex has some rips and tears and it looks like some paint has run down one side as seen in the last photo, the handle is good, the inside panel looks good and all switches and controls do work but but there are tiny dark speckles on the panel and meter possibly from paint over-spray, these may or may not clean up, due to its age this is sold as-is. Simpson 1000 Tube Tester Tested Working
Simpson 1000 Tube Tester. Several tubes have been tested and this appears to be working just fine but it may have a problem, the line adjust control gets hot, this may be normal for this tester or it may be foretelling of an imminent failure. Other known problems are the 9 pin mini socket will need replaced as it makes intermittent contact though it feels tight and the roll chart has been taped in a couple of areas and has a few other bad spots, only a couple of areas are un-readable, the chart is also off line and crocked through the window. Shown testing a type 55 tube, a 12AU7 and a 5Z3 all known good tubes, includes the User manual which is in good condition, the manual has the circuit diagram in the back should one need it. Here's a very nice Heathkit TC-2 tube tester in full-working condition. The light-up data roller is very cool. The unit has been tested with new-old tubes and found to read within manufacturer specs. This is an emissions-type tester. So it doesn't test for mutual conductance. It comes with the original users manual(not pictured) and tube-data update booklets. The plate-clip lead wire has some brittle insulation that can be taped or replaced. Please make sure the item is suitable for your needs. This is a nice working BK 747 Dynamic Mutual Conductance Solid State Tube Tester. All Switches. Pots, and tube sockets were cleaned and/or tightened. Caig Deoxit was used to clean the contacts. Bulbs for the heater and overload are good. The plastic over the meter is clean and free of scratches! Meter movement is nice and smooth Several known tubes were tested to ensure proper operation of this tube tester. The hinge is tight to open and pops when you do open it. External metal hardware shows some surface corrosion that can be easily cleaned. We have sold and shipped over 50 tube testers over the last 15 years. Not one has ever come back and every customer has been delighted with their testers! This tester will be shrink-wrapped in white foam. A used vintage Hickok 539B tube tester. See the 5th photograph for other wire connectors and bulbs also included. The working condition is not known. It has not been tested in any way. Selling"as is" The case has no cover. There is no roll chart. I have a used roll chart for other models that I am selling separately. The metal front has scratches and nicks. The knobs look good with a few light scuff marks. One of the knobs is a different shape. The meter covers show some wear with some scuff like marks. One screw around the edge is missing. It needs some cleaning. The case shows wear and the metal parts on it have some rust. Originally. I was not able to remove the tester from the case after removing all the outside edge screws. Here is a nice and fully working Lafayette Tube and Transistor Tester. I repaired and calibrated this unit. Then I used it to test some tubes and transistors. It is fully working. Even the bipolar transistor test function works great. All the switches and controls work well and the sockets are good. This tester comes complete with a copy of the manual and test charts so you will be able to use this unit to test your tubes and transistors. This emission tube checker will test a large number of tube types. Here is a short list of rock tubes people need to test nowadays: 6CA7(EL34) 6L6, 6BQ5(EL84) all the 12A_7 family(12AX7, 12AT7, 12AU7, etc. ECC8_ just like the 12A_7) and many, many others. This checker has the following sockets: Large base tubes: 8-pin octal& loctal. Miniatures: 7. 9, 9+1, 10(Not many testers can handle the 9+1 or 10-pin ... moretubes. Novars(bigger 9-pin tubes) Compactrons(bigger 12-pin tubes) I tested all of the above tubes with this tester except the Decal and the 9+1 10-pin miniatures because I don't have those tubes. I checked the socket wiring for these tubes and it looks good so I think they will work as well. The manual has a lot of tubes in the charts and good instructions for testing them. But nothing about how to use the transistor testor. I added a page to the manual that gives instructions on how to test transistors. Also in the manual is the schematic which will help you maintain the proper operation and accuracy of this tester. This tube tester is a newer compact. Counter top style instrument. It's light and small so you can easily get it down from the shelf when you need to test some tubes. As you can see from the pictures, this unit is in good condition. I found two chips in the case that are shown in the pictures. Other than that, the case is made out of Bakelite so unless you manage to crack it or chip it, it's almost indestructible. This listing is for a fully working. Repaired, calibrated and tested, vintage tube tester. It's the model 600 from Knight(Allied Radio) Best I can tell. This is the version between the 600A and 600B tester. It has all the functionality of the 600B with the silk screen that resembles the 600A. What's important is that it has sockets for 9-pin Novar& 12 pin Compactron tubes so it will test a lot of tube types. Here's the list: Large base tubes: 4. 5, 6, 7& 8(octal) pin tubes. Miniatures: 7. 9& 9+1(Not many testers can handle the 9+1, 10-pin tubes. Loctals. Novars. Compactrons. Nuvistors. I tested all of the above tubes with this tester except the Nuvistors and the 9+1 miniatures. I checked the socket wiring for these tubes and it looks good so I think they will work as well. The test data included in this manual is as complete as I've seen. The roll chart works well. All the switches and controls work well and the sockets are good. This tube tester is the portable style as opposed to a bench instrument. That means it has a closing case with a handle that you can take with you on service calls. You probably won't be doing much of that. But it's still nice to have the closing case because this tester stores much better. As you can see from the pictures, this unit is in good condition. Up for auction is this: I-177-B Vacuum Tube Tester US ARMY w/the proper book that gets mounted to the rings in the lid. I just missed getting that in the picture. This is in really nice condition. This has been cleaned. Inspected, and tested. The equipment is in great condition for being roughly 50 years old. Everything works properly. I will NOT say this is calibrated to any standard. I did run it for over a week straight after cleaning it so that everything had a chance to settle in and prove itself over time. The factory specs for some items are pretty broad and the equipment is very old, but everything looks great on my bench in my lab in my home. It is NOT perfect. But it will come with the correct manual that clips into the lid. It IS a nice old piece of gear though and you need to look at the pictures and decide for yourself. The Model 85 Superior Instruments Company. SICO, is a dynamic tube tester. It is considered to be a step above an emission tester. This unit was fixed and fully tested including all sockets(even the sub-miniature type) indicators, switches and controls. This tester is fully working and does as good a job of testing tubes as when it was new. The cabinet is solid but has seen plenty of use through the decades. The exterior hardware is tarnished but solid. The handle is good. The case shows wear but again is solid. There are some ink marks and paint splatter on the cover. I think overall the condition of the case is decent. The panel is in very good condition. The meter lens has a few small cracks. But is readily readable. The switches and controls work well. EICO 667 Dynamic Conductance Tube & Transistor Tester Repaired Tested Calibrated
Here is a clean. Calibrated and tested EICO 667 Tube Tester. It works because I tested it and fixed what was broken. Testing revealed several problems including an intermittent tube socket which had to be replaced. The only thing I wasn't able to test was the 7 pin Nuvistor socket because I don't have any of those tubes. I checked the socket wiring and it looked OK, so that socket most likely works as it should. I checked the transistor test function with both PNP and NPN transistors. It worked just like new. Most people looking to buy a tube tester rarely consider the transistor function. But the EICO 667 has a pretty decent transistor tester built in. It checks both the Iceo(collector to emitter. Open base) leakage current and the Beta. This works especially well for signal transistors. The EICO 667 Dynamic Conductance Tester is ... morean excellent tube tester which provides much more reliable results than the typical emission tester. I have a weak EL34 tube in my parts box that tests good on almost all emission testers. This 667 correctly rejects this tube as bad. See picture. Overall this tester is in very good condition. It has minimal marks on the faceplate and meter lens. The switches and controls all work well and the tube sockets are nice and tight. The roll chart works well and the meter is smooth and repeatable. Take a look at the photos. They do a good job of describing the unit's overall condition. Precision Apparatus PACO 612 Tube & Battery Tester, Calibrated Fixed Tested NICE
Here is a very nice PACO tube tester. It's the Model 612 tube and battery tester. I haven't done much with PACO gear(though I'm totally dependent on their C-20 capacitor tester) But based on the shiny chrome faceplate this looks to be a later production run of the venerable 612 emission tester. This is a nice tester. It beats my trusty old EICO 625, that's for sure. I toyed with the idea of swapping out the 625 for the 612 for my quick bench tester. still might happen. We'll see how the sale goes. This tester has the following sockets: Octal Loctal 7& 9 Pin Miniature 4. 5, 6& 7 Pin Large Base Acorn Subminiature(8-pin pencil tube) 7 pin in-line Subminiature It will test most. If not all, rock and roll tubes and antique radio tubes including 12AX7, 12AU7, 12AT7, 6BQ5(EL84) 6CA7(EL34) KT-66, KT-88, 6550, 5881, 6146, ... more7025 etc. I tested a tube in every socket. I have a standard weak 6CA7(EL34) that I use to judge testers. This tester got it right. Checked leaky and good capacitor. The 612 had no trouble identifying which one was which. The battery test also worked. I am confident this tube. Condenser and battery tester is fully functional. The meter is very nice. The movement is very smooth and repeatable. Overall. This unit very nice as you can see from the pictures. The case has some scrapes and marks but is very solid. All feet are there. They're not a exact match but close. Knight KG-600 Tube Tester Upgraded to KG-600A w/ 600B Chart Calibrated Tested
Many items on ebay have stories to tell. Some are happy. Some are sad. This is one such item. If you're not interested in my making a short story long. Skip ahead to the executive summary. Back in the days when vacuum tubes reigned supreme. Knight, a division of Allied Radio, was the maker of many wonderful test instruments. The KG-600 series of tube testers was a proud member of this family. This fine Knight Tube Tester was born a Model KG-600. But soon after the release of the KG-600, many new tubes hit the scene, most notably the Novar and Compactron types. Knight engineers quickly and very ingeniously designed an upgraded tester, the KG-600A, that was just like the 600 but would also test the new tubes. The ingenious part of the design was that the 600A and subsequent 600-series testers didn't add any more lever switches. The ... moreKnight engineers figured out how to make the same old 10 lever switches perform tests for the additional 2 pins in the Compactron tube base(12 total) Most, if not all, tester manufacturers went with a 13 lever design. 13 lever switches would allow for 12 pins plus a grid cap. Some prior owner of this fine instrument realized how easy it was to upgrade the KG-600 to a KG-600A. Because the same KG-600 circuit with its 10 lever switches was able to test the new tubes. All you had to do is add the new tube sockets and wire them properly. And wire them properly they did. With the exception of drilling the Compactron socket chassis hole a bit too large, they did an excellent job of it. They even installed a KG-600B roll chart in the instrument. This new roll chart had an enhanced grid test procedure that also included a gas test. It was an excellent idea. Here's the sad part. For some reason, the meter lens was removed when the new tube socket hole was drilled. When I bought this tester, the meter movement was packed with tiny iron filings- like what you would get when drilling a hole in the steel chassis. The needle was stuck! EICO 625 Tube Tester, Repaired Recapped Calibrated Tested, Accurate All Works
The EICO 625 Tube Testers are easy to use. Accurate and reliable. That's what made them so popular. Another reason the EICO 625 was so popular is because it will test a lot of different tubes. And if the sockets it has aren't enough. Then adapters are available that will test almost every consumer tube ever made. This unit comes with a bound copy of the Instruction Manual. Assembly Manual and lots of test setup charts. One of the charts has an exhaustive list of tubes and includes tubes tested with an adapter. I repaired. Recapped, calibrated and tested this instrument. I cleaned the sockets and switch contacts. Everything works. The switches and sockets are tight and the meter is smooth and repeatable. It calibrates to line very nicely and identified my weak EL34. Good tubes tested good. Short and leakage indicator has a new neon ... morelamp and works well. The roll chart mechanism isn't the best I've seen but quite workable. It looks like the roll chart has sat for a long time in one position and one section of it has some dark spots. Everything is still very readable. On the plus side. This is the most recent roll chart I've ever seen. It's the EICO 625-10. It also has a green roll chart window. The window is nice, but I don't think it's an EICO original. The knobs and grid caps are in good shape. Overall this unit is clean. But has tarnish and marks. The faceplate also has marks. This tester's results are very close to my calibrated TV-7D/U tester that I use all the time to sell tubes here on ebay. This tester belonged to a radio tech who had it calibrated in the 1990's. Eico 625 Tube Tester--Technician Refurbished &Tested-See Photo of Tube Testing
EICO 625 Tube Tester Repaired& Tested by Electronics Technician with 18 years tube circuit experience. The repairs/testing: Replaced Rectifier tube(6H6) Out-of-tolerance resistors, capacitor, 7-pin socket, line cord(polarized plug) Plate/grid caps& wires, Short" and"Overload" lamps. Cleaned all switches/controls/tube sockets. Per Eico: There is no calibration procedure for the Model 625-the in-tolerance components(each were checked) establish its accuracy. Tested(see photo of tube being tested) a(purchased) Jackson-calibration 6V6 tube gives a comparable reading on the Eico 625 as on my more elaborate Jackson 648R tube tester. There is no case cover. The grey case is flawless-it was just refinished(see photo) The front panel has some scratches near some controls-and some specs or marks(see photo) BUY THIS if you want ... morea tester that works well. DO NOT BUY if you want a panel without specs/marks. Note: Included are 2 comb-bound. Bought from a former TI employee and tested in great working order! I did not try every function. But I tested several different tubes and I never had any issues whatsoever. It seems most of his test equipment was lightly used, and kept very well. See the pics of me testing an old 6L6 and working great! There are also some extra scrolls and old wires, which are pretty rotten. I am just including these as they are part of the tester. My tube is not included. This tester is huge and heavy. But I only charge actual shipping so please be aware of this when bidding. Please pay within 7 days of winning a bid.
