I've used this tester on my bench for the past four years but finally traded up to a newer(and prettier) Jackson tester. Jackson 648R Tube Tester -EXCELLENT! - 648 Works Great - Manufactured 1958-61
Jackson 648R Tube Tester-EXCELLENT! 648 Works Great This listing is for a vintage Jackson 648R tube tester in exceptional condition. It works great. And except for some wear on the wood case, it looks nearly new. I have not seen another on eBay in quite some time in this excellent shape. The 648R is one of the more recent versions of the classic Jackson 648 tube tester. This"R" series replaced the"648A in 1958 and was manufactured until 1961. It is preferable to earlier models in that it uses a diode instead of an internal 1S5 tube for calibrating line voltage. So it seldom needs calibration. It also features a Flip/Over tube socket bank. I see no significant defects on the tester- it looks nearly new in all respects except for external case wear. The switches. Knobs, meter, and chassis all look near new. There is almost no ... morewear on any of the plastic or metal parts. The knobs and switches all appear to be original. Paint is excellent near new. There is some very slight corrosion of some of the Philips head wood screws that hold the chassis to the case. The outside of the case has some minor dings and light corrosion as seen in the photos. The case is solid and clean and all the latches. Hinges, handles work great. If you refinished the leatherette exterior the whole thing would look near new. Please contact me with questions or for additional photos. I have used it as my primary tester for about 10 years and have never had a problem. When I first got it I checked it against a friends Hickok and the readings matched very closely. I have had no reason to adjust things since then(in light use. Perhaps 10 tube tests a year) Instructions for calibration are easy to find online if you want to do that. Included on the top cover are the Operation Instructions and an Additional Tube Guide. The built in rolling tube guide is in excellent shape. I am also including(not shown in the photos) a 12 page photo copy of a newer tube guide dated 1965. Up for auction is this Vintage Jackson Model 648R Dynamic Tube Tester in Case. This tester is in Good condition. I powered the tester on and everything seems to work as it should. I do not have any tubes to further test the machine but the meter works as it should. The tester is in Good cosmetic condition. All of the original buttons and knobs are present and intact on the tester. The lights on the tester work as they should as well. The tester comes in its original carrying case. The case does show signs of wearing from use over the years but is still intact. I took a lot of pictures to show you what you are receiving. You are bidding on a vintage Jackson 648 tube tester. It's in very good condition for its age. It comes with a ton of documentation and extras and the vacuum tubes Inc manual and calibration tube which is the best! Also has a bunch of extra associated documentation and service bulletins. I did power it up to check the calibration and it's reading a little high. Tube is calibrated at 85 and it reads 90. This unit is one of the easier to calibrate as pots are used for the calibration I also recall that when I put it away. The meter was occasionally a bit temperamental, and needed a tap before it would register. This unit has the upgraded shorts test. As well as the filament voltage upgrade kit installed. The tester does test a number known weak tube bad and good ones good. But you'll probably want to have this serviced/service it ... moreyourself so the calibration is right on. Jackson Dynamic Plate Conductance Tube Tester. Model# 648. Works great and is very clean. Comes with factory operating instructions, and a copy of special tube test set up data manual. Also has a built in roll chart for tube test set up. Test sockets for 4, 5, 6, 7, pin early type tubes, 8 pin octal and loctal, and 7, 9 miniature and acorn tubes. Circuit tube has been tested, and capacitor replaced. All sockets and controls have been cleaned. This is a very high end tester. Great for testing amplifier, audio, hi/fi, stereo, radio and tv tubes. Shows a little age but is in overall very very good condition. Very useful tester with a lot of great features!

I am offering this vintage Jackson 648 tube tester. The previous owner said it worked. However I have no way of testing it. So I am selling it for parts or project, AS-IS. It also comes with the manuals as shown. I was told by a few old timers not to plug these in, it might damage the capacitors. They need to be brought back slowly with a variac to recharge the capacitors.
