Though it appears very similiar to 600 series units I have seen. This vintage unit tests 4, 5, 6 and 7"big pin" tubes as well as octal, loktal, 7& 9 pin miniatures. It is not setup for subminiatures, compactrons or nuvistors. The case measures approximately 14"x10"x6" The unit shows some normal wear and tear, the worst damage being a slight bend to the pointer on the meter(see photos. I checked a few tubes with it and found that some seemed to work fine but others did not show any reading at all. I suspect a bad connection somewhere, maybe just a dirty switch, but I do not know. It was made in the USA and while I am not sure of the date I would guess it to be late 1950s. There is no model number on it. Though it appears very similiar to 600 series units I have seen. This vintage unit tests 4, 5, 6 and 7"big pin" tubes as well as octal, loktal, 7& 9 pin miniatures. It is not setup for subminiatures, compactrons or nuvistors. The case measures approximately 14"x10"x6" The unit shows some normal wear and tear, the worst damage being a slight bend to the pointer on the meter(see photos. Vintage Knight 400 tube checker. I don't know how to test this so it has NOT been tested. When I moved the power switch from hi to lo I did notice a blink of orange light. Light up for a quick second underneath the meter. All switches click when moving up or down. The test switch on the right that reads SHORT& VALUE does not click it's more like a spring button. So the switch always stays on SHORT and when you bring it down to VALUE you need to hold it and if let go it goes back to SHORT. Now the 2 big knobs. The knob that reads FILAMENT clicks when turning and the knob that reads LOAD does not click when turning. This looks lightly used with light scratches mostly on the back( not bad at all) Overall this looks in very good condition. No box or case with this but will be packaged well when shipping. Knight tube tester model 83YX142 "NOT WORKING FOR REPAIR"
I have up for sale this great Knight model 83YX142/143 tube tester. I have tried to get this to work properly but I'm either doing something wrong. Or the filiment supply is not working. It won't test a tube. So, I'm selling this"as-is" for repair. It is complete, the needle deflects when turned on, and the light comes on under the tube chart which rolls as it should. It is missing 2 of the knob ends on the 3 position switches in the tube elements section. This also comes with the original build sheet and operating instructions. 1955 Allied Knight-Kit Tube Tester-83YX142/3 This is a nice Vintage tube tester from 1955. It is by Allied Radio of Chicago. It has the how to build and trouble shoot manual included. It also instructs how to test tubes. I use to restore and repair old radios and I used it quite a bit years ago. I wanted to make sure it still worked. So I found an old radio stored downstairs and pulled a few tubes out of it to test this evening and a really old tube from a TRF radio I have sitting in my family room. The results are as follows. Which tells me the Tube Tester still works, which is a good thing! 6SK7- Tested good and no shorts or gas problems. 6F6- Had a short from the get go. 80(very old tube) Tested weak but good. I included some pictures of the meter during some of the testing. Just to show it working as well as the lighted filaments, the ... morelighted meter and Roll Chart. Even the power cord is in nice condition. There is a small cigarette burn on the outside by the handle. Remember the days when people smoked anywhere and everywhere? Very Nice Knight Allied "400" Tube Tester Works Fine
This is a nice example of the Knight 400 Tube Tester. It includes the tube chart which is hidden inside the body of the tester. I tested several 12AX7 tubes and one 6SN7 and the tube tester works fine! Meter moves nice and freely. Filament and load knobs work nicely. The metal cabinet looks like new except for some spotty rust on the lower corner as shown in the last picture.

There are some imperfections in the paint of the main tester panel. Which I believe are from the factory. The tube being tested in the photos is a 6C6, testing strong on the upper range of the good scale. Hickok readings for the same tube fall in the middle range of the good scale. Here is a nice vintage Knight Kit KG-600C Tube Tester. Made by Allied Radio Corp of Chicago Illinois USA made back in 1969. The Tester was found with the original assembly manual and tube chart, is in used very good condition with some wear as pictured, and 1 of the knobs does not tightened up on the shaft and the rubber on the clip for the connecting the top metal of the tube has dried out. The tube tester was plugged in and lights up, meter adjusts, all controls appear to work, the tube chart spins properly and I tested a few tubes and the tester appears to work, but may need to be adjusted. The Case shows some wear with the handle is broken as pictured, is missing 2 feet, but both latches work properly. This listing is for a fully working. Repaired, calibrated and tested, vintage tube tester. It's the model 600 from Knight(Allied Radio) Best I can tell. This is the version between the 600A and 600B tester. It has all the functionality of the 600B with the silk screen that resembles the 600A. What's important is that it has sockets for 9-pin Novar& 12 pin Compactron tubes so it will test a lot of tube types. Here's the list: Large base tubes: 4. 5, 6, 7& 8(octal) pin tubes. Miniatures: 7. 9& 9+1(Not many testers can handle the 9+1, 10-pin tubes. Loctals. Novars. Compactrons. Nuvistors. I tested all of the above tubes with this tester except the Nuvistors and the 9+1 miniatures. I checked the socket wiring for these tubes and it looks good so I think they will work as well. The roll chart is a good one in both how it ... moreoperates and the tubes it includes. It is missing some of the antique tube types and the much newer Compactron& Novar tubes. To help you with that. I'm including a bound and printed copy of the manual. The manual is not original. Included in the manual are the instructions, schematic, construction book, tube supplements, and tube chart for obsolete tubes. The manual is complete an not missing any pages. The test data included in this manual is as complete as I've seen. The roll chart works well. All the switches and controls work well and the sockets are good. This tube tester is the portable style as opposed to a bench instrument. That means it has a closing case with a handle that you can take with you on service calls. You probably won't be doing much of that. But it's still nice to have the closing case because this tester stores much better. As you can see from the pictures, this unit is in good condition. The case has some wear and a gouge on the bottom. The handle, hinges and latches are good. The exterior hardware has some rust. The faceplate shows normal wear but not very much. While the date on the roll chart says it(the roll chart) is current for tubes produced up to May 31st, 1965. I tested dozens of various tubes with it(6L6, 12AX7, 6SN7, 7591, 5U4G, etc. It works well and does what is what designed to do. I found it easy to use and the intructions were easy to follow. It looks to be in very good condition and I was told this was in good working order for whatever that’s worth. Please see the pictures. Many items on ebay have stories to tell. Some are happy. Some are sad. This is one such item. If you're not interested in my making a short story long. Skip ahead to the executive summary. Back in the days when vacuum tubes reigned supreme. Knight, a division of Allied Radio, was the maker of many wonderful test instruments. The KG-600 series of tube testers was a proud member of this family. This fine Knight Tube Tester was born a Model KG-600. But soon after the release of the KG-600, many new tubes hit the scene, most notably the Novar and Compactron types. Knight engineers quickly and very ingeniously designed an upgraded tester, the KG-600A, that was just like the 600 but would also test the new tubes. The ingenious part of the design was that the 600A and subsequent 600-series testers didn't add any more lever switches. The ... moreKnight engineers figured out how to make the same old 10 lever switches perform tests for the additional 2 pins in the Compactron tube base(12 total) Most, if not all, tester manufacturers went with a 13 lever design. 13 lever switches would allow for 12 pins plus a grid cap. Some prior owner of this fine instrument realized how easy it was to upgrade the KG-600 to a KG-600A. Because the same KG-600 circuit with its 10 lever switches was able to test the new tubes. All you had to do is add the new tube sockets and wire them properly. And wire them properly they did. With the exception of drilling the Compactron socket chassis hole a bit too large, they did an excellent job of it. They even installed a KG-600B roll chart in the instrument. This new roll chart had an enhanced grid test procedure that also included a gas test. It was an excellent idea. Here's the sad part. For some reason, the meter lens was removed when the new tube socket hole was drilled. When I bought this tester, the meter movement was packed with tiny iron filings- like what you would get when drilling a hole in the steel chassis. The needle was stuck! I opened up the battery compartment and there’s no sign of damage inside from old batteries. Some minor flaws: The power cord is a bit chewed up(see photo) and probably should be replaced. Up for auction is our vintage Knight KG-600B tube tested with manual and tube spec charts/scrolls for testing. This is my last tube tester since almost all of the tubes from our store have gone to new owners. As-is. As-pictured. Worn/well-used and 100% fully functional, reliable and dependable. Cosmetically, the handle is missing on the case and the outside trim is detaching.this tube tester is worn and well-used so please don't expect mint new condition. The test panel is in great shape and the tester itself works 100% fine. Over this last year I tested many many vintage tubes with this Knight KG-600B and never had a problem or issue with readings or accuracy. I used the KG-600B especially to test the older 4. 5, 6, and 7-pin tubes. Selling my last tester because I am moving out of the radio/tv tube business. Case size is approx L 14 ... more1/2 in x W 10 in x H 6 3/4in. and it is portable(missing handle) Weight of the unit itself is approx 10 lbs 4 oz = 13 pounds or so with manuals and packing box. All manuals. Spec sheets, and an extra tube spec scroll is included and provides settings for many tube types that fit the Knight KG-600B test sockets, including the older 4,5,6 and 7-pins. Please see the pics. Note: I had to repair the internal built-in scroll tube spec chart on this tester because the 65-in scroll paper was ripped. The scroll works now. But about 3 inches of test specs of the internal 65 inch scroll specs are torn.please see the pictures which can better explain. Knight Tube Tester in Good Working Condition - For Testing Antique Radio Tubes
This listing is for a working Knight tube tester. I have used similar tube testers since the 1950s and like them because they are easy to use. Able to test most tube types, and seem to provide a good"GO/NO GO" indication with minimum effort. This particular tester appears to be from the 1950s. But has been upgraded to test tubes made in the 1960s. It has a newer roll chart that moves smoothly, sockets for newer tubes, and a"socket saver" installed to ensure that good connections can be made when testing 7-pin miniature tubes. I tested a tube to verify its operation. And the results agreed with those I received from the Knight tester I use regularly. I also used a voltmeter to verify that all of the settings on the filament voltage switch work as they should. The meter movement is excellent. It zeros well, adjusts properly ... moreto center for use, and has just the right amount of damping to be pleasant to use. The lights illuminating the roll chart also work as they should.
