Up for auction is a vintage Eico Model 625 tube tester. The serial number is 68782W. I recently purchased a number of vintage tube related items from an estate and this tester came from that group. The tester was plugged in and it lights up. But I don't know how to test it properly. The roll chart scrolls smoothly and the cabinet is in good shape, but needs a cleaning. This is my father's beloved Eico Model 625 Eico Tube Tester. Has the 4, 5, 6, and 7-pin sockets, the Octal/Loctal, 7-Pin and 9-Pin Miniature sockets. It has Shunt, Line Adjustment, Filament, Selector, with a few other swithes. The center scroll moves freely and guessing it is original as it is somewhat discolored. The light behind the scroll lights up. I was too afraid to plug in a tube, afraid I would blow up something either on the machine or the tube itself. It does not have the original instruction manual. The front is a vibrant blue with grey edges and the case is military green. History: My father was in the US Air Force and was a radio operator. He retired and they hired him as a civilian associate. For as long as I can remember. My father collected radios and restored them. He worked on Radios, TVs and HAM radios for anyone who ... moreasked him. It was his hobby and he enjoyed it up until a few years ago when he became ill. We are now auctioning the radios, testers and components to assist offsetting the loss of his income for my mother. Vintage Eico Vacuum Tube Tester Model 625 Electronic Test equipment
This tester seems to work ok. Occasionally I would have to flip or rotate the switches a couple of times to get it to work. The more I used it. The better it seemed to work. I'm not for sure but it would seem that maybe some of the contacts need cleaned, maybe blown out? Also the needle seems to jump or jitter around while testing, I don't know if this is normal. The face plate is in pretty good condition with some minor dings and scuffs. The outer housing is missing a lot of the finish and has some minor surface rust. I'm not sure if the two light bulbs on the lower corners are working. They had never came on when I tested a few tubes. It looks like the power cord may have been replaced. The information/data scroll has one small spot that had been tore and taped back together(see picture) My knowledge of things of this nature ... moreare minimal. Vintage EICO 625 Tube Tester Restored and Calibrated
Here for your consideration is a good working. Guaranteed Eico model 625 tube tester. This is a great tester for musicians. Hi-Fi owners, Hams, hobbyists, tube collectors, etc. This tester has been professionally repaired and tested for calibration. It tests most popular audio and radio tubes. Including 6L6, 6V6, 6550, EL34, 6CA7, 6BQ5/EL84, 12AX7, 12AT7, most rectifier tubes, etc. It also tests the old four, five and six pin tubes, as well as seven and nine pin miniatures and loctals. There is no socket for compactrons, although Eico made an adapter(model 610) which sometimes shows up on Ebay. This is an emission tester. It does not measure transconductance like much more expensive Hickoks. But it will certainly tell you if your tubes are good or bad, and check for shorts. If you are in the business of selling tubes, you need a Hickok. If ... moreyou just need to know the basic condition of your tubes, then this tester will work fine for you. You can test tubes very fast with this tester. It is easy to set up and use. It is also not as susceptible to damage from incorrect setups as some testers. An inexperienced user can easily damage a Hickok. I have repaired and restored this tester to good working condition. The Carbon composition resistors that affect calibration have usually drifted badly out of tolerance on these testers. I replace them with modern 2% tolerance resistors. The tester is now very accurate. I have owned several of these. As well as several Hickoks, and it reads consistent with all of them. I replaced the old two-wire AC line cord with a grounded three-wire cord for your safety. I replaced the test leads with good quality test prod wire. One of the top cap connectors is chipped. But it does not affect it's function. I replaced some missing knobs using correct types. I also repainted the outer case which had some rust. The internal wiring was in poor condition due to age and poor wiring practice by the original assembler. I replaced most of the original wires with new vinyl insulated wiring and added a terminal board to better organize the wiring and on which to secure the several resistors. Also improved the bearing arrangement of the chart rollers for smoother action. Refurbished tester has been tested with several tubes from an early short wave receiver and it appears to function as designed. All controls operate and function as they should. The meter movement is smooth and surrounded by a great looking panel. This tester is ideal for guitar amplifiers. Radio, jukebox and TV tubes. It is easy to use, has a copy of the operating instructions and schematic. The roll chart is in very good condition and moves easily from one end of the chart to the other. Therefore it is being sold as is but I do think it works but no guarantees. The Meter is clear and has No cracks. This piece does show some age and wear and probably could use a cleaning. This comes only with the items shown in pictures. I believe all parts are there but they may not be. Comes with the original Manual and an additional roll chart. The first top section of the chart is pretty fragile and holey though. Also comes with a folder with the tube chart supplements for model 625–07. Out of a SCRANTON PENNSYLVANIA ESTATE is this VINTAGE EICO Model 625 VACUUM TUBE TESTER(measuring 12.5" x 10" x 4" Serial number 26953) It did light up when I plugged it in[SEE THIRD PHOTO] I don't know if it still tests tubes accurately as I have no knowledge of this electronic area. This listing is for a fully working. Repaired, calibrated and tested, vintage tube tester. It's the model 625 made by EICO. It comes complete with a bound and printed copy of the manual. The manual is not original. Included in the manual are the instructions. Schematic, construction book, tube supplements, and tube chart for obsolete tubes. The manual is complete an not missing any pages. The tester itself has the 625-06 roll chart which is one of the more recent editions. The roll chart works well. There is one small, hard to see tear near the end that was fixed with magic transparent tape. All the switches and controls work well and the sockets are good. As you can see from the pictures. This unit is in good condition. The case paint has some chips and the faceplate shows normal wear. The hardware inside the case is all good. This tester ... morewas brought back from the dead, calibrated and tested. For calibration, precision resistors were installed in the tube"MERIT" circuit. The meter bezel is chipped in the top left corner and can be seen in one of the pictures. I cracked the bezel while replacing the meter movement. I have another 625 which has been my bench tester since the 70s. I always keep it maintained and calibrated. I did comparison tests between the two testers for each of the"SELECTOR" tube current) settings. Here's what I got: Tube: 1R5. Selector: 1. For Sale Tester: 1000. Bench Tester: 94.0. Tube: 12AU7. Up for auction is a EICO model 625 emission tube tester with a EICO 610 adapter. This vintage Tube Tester was designed to test practically all vintage radio. Jukebox, guitar amplifier and television receiving tubes and a few transmitting tubes. The main unit is a Model 625. Made by EICO, Electronic Instrument Co. The EICO 625 has many several tube sockets including ones for 4 and 5-pin tubes. The additional EICO Tube Tester Adapter model 610, has a 5 Pin Nuvistor, 7 Pin, Nuvistor, a Novar, a 12 Pin Compactron and a 10 Pin Miniature. The adaptor consists of inter-wired sockets, plus a 9-wire cable terminated in a 9-pin miniature plug that is inserted in the socket on the tube tester. A tenth connection is provided by a capterminal on the adaptor to which is connected a grid cap lead of the tube tester. The normally blank key space on the compactron ... moresocket in the adaptor is drilled to permit a compactron to be inserted in the socket with the key at any desired position, so as to permit all sections of the compactron to be tested without switching. Nice eBay find for the collector or avid restoration enthusiast. An EICO model 625 vintage tube tester complete with schematic. Parts list, tube data including the May 1956"NEW TUBE TESTER DATA" Roll chart is inside- well lit. Hesitates occasionally when scrolled up/down but I was able to go from"STOP" up to"STOP" down. Included also are 11" x 17" prints of tube data. I tested a 45 tube. As shown in the pictures. Simple settings on the meter, just follow the lever number"UP" or"DOWN" One cap/cover missing on the last lever. See photos. No other problems noticed. Normally you set the controls as indicated in the charts and then turn on the tester and then when the tube warms up you adjust the pointer to the LINE mark(halfway) The pointer doesn't move when the tester is turned on and nothing happens when I adjust the knob. When I push the short merit button. The pointer moves to give a condition value, but without the line adjust, there is not way to know how good that value is(as far as I know) I don't know if there is anything else wrong with it. This being the case, I am selling it for parts or repair. In addition. EICO 625 Tube Tester, Repaired Recapped Calibrated Tested, Accurate All Works
The EICO 625 Tube Testers are easy to use. Accurate and reliable. That's what made them so popular. Another reason the EICO 625 was so popular is because it will test a lot of different tubes. And if the sockets it has aren't enough. Then adapters are available that will test almost every consumer tube ever made. This unit comes with a bound copy of the Instruction Manual. Assembly Manual and lots of test setup charts. One of the charts has an exhaustive list of tubes and includes tubes tested with an adapter. I repaired. Recapped, calibrated and tested this instrument. I cleaned the sockets and switch contacts. Everything works. The switches and sockets are tight and the meter is smooth and repeatable. It calibrates to line very nicely and identified my weak EL34. Good tubes tested good. Short and leakage indicator has a new neon ... morelamp and works well. The roll chart mechanism isn't the best I've seen but quite workable. It looks like the roll chart has sat for a long time in one position and one section of it has some dark spots. Everything is still very readable. On the plus side. This is the most recent roll chart I've ever seen. It's the EICO 625-10. It also has a green roll chart window. The window is nice, but I don't think it's an EICO original. The knobs and grid caps are in good shape. Overall this unit is clean. But has tarnish and marks. The faceplate also has marks. It's best to look at the pictures for a better idea. Tubes shown in pictures are for demo and don't come with the tester. US Only. UPS Ground is quoted. But might ship Priority Mail if similar cost. Up for auction is a vintage EICO tube tester model 625 in excellent condition. Tested a couple of tubes and the unit works as designed. Original cord is fine but aged- no cracks or repairs. Tube chart works but is slightly slanted- easy to realign if so desired. One flip knob has a slight bend- see pictures. Excellent cosmetic condition- see the many pictures. Very clean example. Up for bids is a Vintage Eico 625 Tube Tester in excellent condition. A very easy-to-use tube tester that will test a wide variety of tubes for guitar amps. Stereos, radios, etc. Does all the basic tube tests read on a GOOD/BAD scale. Tester spent most of it's life inside a small wooden cabinet and it was used sparingly so it is really clean for it's age. I tested it against my Triplett 3413-B with several different tubes and it gave similar results. Includes original owners' manual, a NOS roll chart still in it's cardboard tube, a Westinghouse guide to vacuum tubes, and a tube chart supplement. Will be packed very well for shipping. Eico Model 625 tube tester.i did test a tube and it seemed to work but has a few issues.brunt/melted Tube Short Socket.also the circut/ overload switch is missing.has the scroll to match settings up to the tube being tested and it also lights up.Use it as it is or for parts.see pictures for condition.some surface rust spots on top.handle is in good shape and so is the plug and cord. Vintage EICO Model 625 Tube Tester. Made by Electronic Instrument Co. New York, NY USA. Serial Number: 70435. Comes in steel travel carrying case with handle. Original paperwork/manuals, Tube chart supplement sheet, paper roll for inside plus two extra Tube Substitution Handbooks dated1960/1969. Machine powers on. Lights works and all components are accounted for. Line adjusts needle perfectly and needle seems to work as it should. NOT FULLY TESTED WITH TUBES. We do not have the sized tubes to test. Average wear from age and use- no damage noted. Some scuffs/scratches. Missing 4 screws that mount machine into case. Currently has four in place which has machine secured and does not move. Cable clamp wires have some age wear(dried out exterior insulation, a few cracked spots) when pulled out and extended. Weight is approximately 11 lbs. The first 3 pics show it testing a 6L6GB. 12AX7, and a 45. The 45 also tests in the marginal range on my TV-7B. It comes with the roll chart. Instruction manual, AND other set up charts which list most early 4 pin, etc, tubes. This tester will NOT test later tubes such as compactrons, etc. As you can see. This one has some moderate cabinet wear, and minor test deck wear. This tester does not come with a cover or case. As with all older equipment, it could probably use some contact/component cleaning for optimum performance. Here's a rare find. It's a complete. Factory built EICO 625 with a 610 adapter. This unit is fully working and ready to test. I calibrated this tester and found it to be very accurate. It's not missing any parts. The meter works very smoothly and is very repeatable. I tested all sockets except the odd-ball Hytron 5-pin and 8-pin Nuvistor. I don't have any of these tubes. As shown in the pictures. This unit looks to be factory built with final test completed on November 11, 1958. The meter is dated June 20, 1958. The roll chart is 625-09. Overall this tester is in very good condition. All the switches work well. Unit comes complete with manuals. This is probably as complete a documentation set for the 625/610 as you will find. No reserve. This auction is for a vintage Eico model 625 tube tester. Description to follow but first please note I can't always ship things out right away. It looks complete and in generally good condition but the glass lens for the gauge on top has come unglued from it's frame and is resting on the face of the gauge, that definitely needs to come apart and get reglued to avoid damaging the gauge needle before turning it on. The unit may need more service beyond that, I don't know, I'm selling it as-is, I got this from an auction, it was stored nicely when I got it but I don't know how to use it so I can't test it out. EICO model 625 tube tester; updated, calibrated, and works great!
Here's a nice Eico 625 tube tester. Many were kits. Others were factory-wired. This particular one works great; I tested 12v tubes, 6v tubes, and in the pics a 5Y3; the results were accurate. If you're into matching audio pairs/quads, this isn't the instrument for you; you'll need to fork over a few hundred bucks more for a mutual-conductance tester. However, if you want to get the old Magnavox, Zenith or Philco playing again, this tester will surely help. NOTE: IN THE PICTURES. THE SCREWS ON THE FACEPLATE AREN'T THERE. REST ASSURED, I'LL RE-INSTALL THEM! I removed them to photograph the innards of this instrument. I figured you'd want to see what's inside.
