Clean, and accurate EICO model 628 tube tester with the attractive brushed aluminum ... morepanel from my collection. The EICO 628 was the successor to the very popular model 625. With sockets added to test the newer tubes that were becoming available. In addition to the usual octal, loctal, 7& 9-pin miniature sockets, Eico added 5& 7-pin nuvistor sockets, novar and compactron sockets, plus 7& 9-pin pin straighteners. The 9-pin socket is actually a combination 9& 10-pin miniature socket. The 628 also has a vastly improved roll chart. The old 4. 5, 6& 7-pin sockets are gone to make room for the new ones. But the older tubes can still be tested. In fact, the data is still on the roll chart and in the tube data manual(included) All it takes is a simple adapter you can make for yourself from an old 8-pin tube base and the socket of your choice. The EICO series of test instruments were intended for professional use. And were marketed mostly to radio and TV repairmen through the local electronic parts dealerships, and their construction shows it. The professional looking brushed aluminum panel was designed to inspire confidence in the customer who saw it, and the heavy steel case of this instrument was intended to protect it well. The circuit was licensed from Triplett and is the same as the Triplett 3413. Heath and Knight also licensed the circuit and produced it as the Heathkit models TC-x and IT-xx. Knight testers are known as the KG-600 series. The test data for all of these tube testers is generally interchangeable. As can be seen from the tag on power cord and the"Tested" stamp on the inside of the case, this is a factory wired instrument- perhaps important if you want to be sure it was done correctly. Up for bids is a Hickok model 799 tube tester with CA-99 adapter. This tester is being s old in working order. Cosmetically tester is clean. Lettering is bold. All knobs are present, outer case is in pretty good shape. This is tester was compared against results using our TV-7D/U and it was very accurate, although it seems to be a bit more conservative on 6SN7 tubes. It is a solid state unit, and very simple to calibrate, which it could probably use and is suggested. Sold in working condition with new copy of manual plus original. Hickok 533 Vacuum Tube Tester W/ Crt Adapter
I do not know how well this tester is calibrated etc. However. It turns on, and the one 12ay7 tube I had to test it with that i knew was good showed as such.Needle moves when button is pushed. The reel with all the tube names and properties Is completely legible and rolls properly. Main and"Short" Fuses appear to work, was unable to figure out how to test the bias fuse, but it isnt obviously blown. The 9 pin socket I tested the 12ay7 appears to be worn, as the tube only lights up when not entirely seated on the socket and feels loose when put in. I am unable to test the other sockets. Cosmetically, In my opinion it appears to be in pretty great shape, but my vintage electronics knowledge base is layman at best. Hickok 800A Tube Tester Calibrated & Everything Within Specs NO Adapter Needed
Hickok 800A Calibrated& Everything Within Specs Includes 9& 12 pin Compactron Hickok 800A Tube Tester 1971 More Pictures Below Description This later 800A model has a calibration adjustment pot. That can be seen in the pictures, that is not on the earlier 800A testers. The CA-4 adapter is not needed since this can test all tubes up to 9 pin mini, and the 9 and 12 pin compactron. There is an abundance of available information including tube data available at no charge at Bama: Went through all the calibration steps and checked all the voltage specifications and they were all virtually perfect. Plate voltage. Bias voltages at 100, 75, 50, and 22, signal voltage, screen and low screen voltage, filament voltages and checked with 6L6 loaded, shorts test, and calibration tubes. The picture with the DMM is showing the tester set at the line, ... moreand a 6L6 in the socket and the filament/heater voltage reads 6.29 volts with the tube loaded. The line voltage being correct is critical to obtain proper Gm test results and so is the heater voltage. This later versions of the 800A has a calibration adjustment for the AC line test. Adjustable resistor R24/ 100K is used and is the the POT with the blue knob pictured. Many Hickok testers can still be calibrated. But with a tube in the socket the filament voltage drops under 6 volts and you get low Gm test readings. Tested a 6L6 calibration tube that tests with almost exact Gm at 5500 and the tube calls for a Gm of 5475. Tested a 6AX7 calibration tube that tests at 1400 and 1450 Gm and the tube calls for 1400 and 1440 Gm and are pictured. The 6ax7 is not on the roll chart and located in the obsolete tube data. It is all original including the two tubes. The 83 and 5y3gt that were tested on a Hickok 752. The 83 tests at 1050 in both sections and 600 is the min. The 5y3gt tests at 625 on both sections and 400 is the min. This tester has the original grounded plug original to the tester and the roll chart is dated 1971 and turns smoothly. Both pieces are in Very nice condition. It line adjusts great and I tested a few tubes and compared closely to my calibrated TV-7. It did not come with a manual so I did not test the MX-949A/U tube socket adapter kit but the Gentleman I purchased them from said they both worked great and the tester does so I would guess the adapter kit does also and the full manual can be purchased here on EBAY for a good price. Both cases are in nice shape with no dents or major scratches and you can tell they were both taken care of very well and they actually look a lot better in person than the pictures show. This is an absolutely amazing combination and for the I-177-B to have been recently calibrated. Well, that’s like the icing on the cake! I have checked this against my Dan Nelson just calibrated TV-7 and this tester is right there with it… SO accurate and it reads in Microhos! Now in combining this tester with the MX-949A/U adapter. Which was made for the I-177-B, you can test big amateur radio transmitter tubes right on down to the small 7 pin tubes. Both units have very tight controls, socket pins and it is obvious that they saw very little use. The calibration sheets for the I-177-B will be included as well as additional testing information, including documentation for using the MX-949A/U adapter. Here's a rare find. It's a complete. Factory built EICO 625 with a 610 adapter. This unit is fully working and ready to test. I calibrated this tester and found it to be very accurate. It's not missing any parts. The meter works very smoothly and is very repeatable. I tested all sockets except the odd-ball Hytron 5-pin and 8-pin Nuvistor. I don't have any of these tubes. As shown in the pictures. This unit looks to be factory built with final test completed on November 11, 1958. The meter is dated June 20, 1958. The roll chart is 625-09.
