Hickok TV-7/U Military Tube Tester (FOR PARTS OR REPAIR)
Up for auction is TV-7/U tube tester. Included is a tube data booklet. And the pin straighteners. This unit is being sold as-is. For parts or repair. The outer case is from a base TV-7/U unit. While the tag says it is a TV-7D/U, this is not correct, as the tester does not have the"F" scale which is unique to TV-7D/U units. I attempted to test a 12AX7 with this unit, and found that the filament would not fire. The line adjustment does work. I did not troubleshot the problem any further than this. Inside. It looks pretty clean and original(at least to my eye, which is no expert on TV-7 testers) This is a good parts unit or fixer-upper for a qualified technician. TV-7 Military Tube Tester, Checked, Calibrated and Working!!!
This auction is for a Hickok TV-7 Tube Tester. The TV-7 series of testers was well known for their reliability. Durability and ruggedness. These military grade testers were made by several sub-contractors, but Hickok was the original designer. The tester offered in this auction is the original model TV-7 and it was a back-up to a duplicate that I use in my repair/restoration business. This unit was thoroughly checked for proper operation and accuracy, all switches were cleaned and checked for proper operation and a calibration was performed to check for correct plate, screen, and bias voltages. All tube sockets were cleaned. I tested a variety of 7, 9, 8 pin octal and some vintage 4 and 5 pin tubes of known quality. The tester is performing correctly and accurately. During its military service it was updated to a 3 prong grounded power cord, ... morethis rig runs on 120 VAC. The picture of the case shows this as an"A" model, but it is actually a straight TV-7 and all pictures of the front panel and chassis are of a straight TV-7. The case was probably switched out at some repair depot some years ago. Exterior condition is very clean, minor scratches as is typical, all knobs move with positive detents, there is no wear around the knobs on the front panel which shows this unit was used very little. The tester comes with a new tube spec book and one plate/grid test lead. The unit has been thoroughly run and will give many years of good service. Unit is packed very securely in a foam lined box. Military TV-7A/U that is in Excellent working condition and nice cosmetic condition compared to most other than it is missing the clasps that hold the tube data setting book shown in the photos. You will see in the photos it line adjusts perfectly and also is shown testing my 6L6 calibration tube which is rated at 40 and showing a reading of 40 on the meter so it is very accurate and I have tested and sold several tubes here on ebay with this very tester and nothing but great feedback. Hickok TV-7/U Military Tube Tester Working& Very Nice Conditon all Within SPECS Hiclok TV-7/U Military Tube Tester Works very good and installed new JAN 83 and 5y3GT rectifiers. Would normally say it was calibrated. But according to the manual, it was only tested& adjusted. Bias voltages all within specs, 22, 50, 75, and 100. The plate voltage was checked according to the manual, with a 375k resistor parallel from the cathode to the plate, pin 6& 3, and it is right at 150 volts and specs call for 150 volts. The high screen voltage used the same resistor on pins 6& 4 and was at 129 volts and specs call for 130 + or– 3 volts. The low screen voltage was checked and at 56 and specs call for 56 volts. Also, checked the line voltage with a 6L6 in the socket and it is at 6.1 volts. The meter reads on a 0– 120 scale and I am sure there is a way to convert to Gm. But that info was not included in any of the manuals. Very Nice TV-7-U Military Tube Tester New Tube Set Voltages Checked Extras
I am selling a a very nice TV-7-U military tube tester with a copy of the military manual. Supplemental Data, and Voltage Alignment Instructions. I picked this one up from a local HAM operator who has had it for a long time and recently had it gone over by another tech buddy in his HAM club and both tubes were replaced and it checked out AOK. It has not been sent off to have a high price alignment but I have every reason to believe it is working properly. I have tested a number of tubes including 6L6 and many audio tubes and I am getting the readings I would expect comparing them to my Hickok and Triplett testers. The case has a dent or two but the paint is very nice and the inside is clean and all sockets are tight. Has a socket saver in the octal socket. The tube chard book is nice and I am including a copy of the military manual and supplemental ... moredata and voltage alignment data. I do not see any tube socket adaptors that may have been with it but it certainly tests the bulk of the tubes you will test and if you are looking at this listing you know the value of a very nice TV-7-U. TV- 7/U Tube tester The internal components are in good shape but the case has some corrosion damage(See Pictures) The military manual is included as well as several adapters and leads. Vintage Military TV-7 D/U MULTI-AMP Tube Tester, working, needs further repair.
Multi-Amp Military TV-7 D/U Tube Tester. In fair to good cosmetic condition. This tester is not in it's original case I believe and does not include accessories. Looks to have been mounted in a case for a Hickok 600/800 or 6000/8000 series tester but I am not sure, as I don't have one of those here to compare… Power transformer has one loose mounting leg to chassis. I've repaired it a bit from when I received it, but still should not receive rough handling until that is addressed further. Tester cleaned. A few caps replaced, shorts/fuse lamp replaced…some loose wires re-soldered to proper terminals… powered up slowly on a variac. Can set line voltage.can test most tubes with the exception of power tubes such as a 6L6? Noticed one of the transformer terminals is not connected to anything and no evidence as to where it should be ... morehooked up?further troubleshooting is necessary and possibly calibration as well, though the tubes I tested stayed close to my other mutual conductance testers in readings. The 83 and 5Y3 military WGTB rectifier tubes were replaced with good used tubes with balanced sides. TV-7/U Military Mutual Conductance Tube Tester, for radio, hifi, guitar amp
TV-7/U Military Tube Tester. Very good++ condition, shows very little wear from actual use, nice tight sockets, virtually no wear on the face plate around the knobs. The case has been painted, very possibly by the military, and shows scratches and wear from being moved around. It is shown testing a known good 6L6GC, reading 32, where 25 is minimum in the data book. This tester has not been calibrated, so plan on calibrating it or having it done. As found, Sold As Is.
