Hickok Model 533A Tube Tester==Nice!
Hickok 533A Tube Tester. This is an exceptionally clean tester that shows only minimal signs of use. There are a few scuffs on the case. But it otherwise looks and functions fine. The face is nice and bright and also looks very good. I see a few splotches of discoloration but nothing that stands out. The tester works great. As you can see from the images it calibrates to line voltage. It addition, I am showing it testing a 12AX7. the test results are commensurate with my calibrated Hickok 539C tester. Included are grid and plate cap jumpers and a copy of the Instruction Manual. This will make someone a very nice tester to use daily. Buyer pays $25 shipping in CONUS.

Hickok 533A Dynamic Mutual Conductance Tube Tester Calibrated and Ready to Use This Hickok 533A is a later model and uses precision resistors rather than the resistor spools that were in the older models. Information including the manual and tube data are readily available at no charge at Bama. All the specs were checked and the tester calibrated and the line voltage with a 6L6 in the socket is at 6.2 volts that will help ensure accurate test results. The current tube data on the roller is dated 1963. The two tubes in the tester. The 83 and 5Y3, are new and it has an updated grounded plug. The case is solid and does show wear on the tolex, but is still in good shape. This 533A is a great tube tester and has a great meter that reads only in Micromhos or the English ... moreScale of Good and Bad. It is far easier to get an accurate Gm reading on a meter such as this one rather than one that has readings for other needless readings such as volts and ohms like on the Hickok 750. The tester is calibrated and there are pictures of a 6L6 being tested with the correct Gm reading and a 6AX7 being tested that is also a calibration tube. It powers up, goes up to line test, and tests a known good 6L6 tube strong. roll chart is tight and rolls freely. Most tube testers sold will need to be calibrated. its a given. Unless the seller can provide you with the calibration specs. Almost any tube tester will need calibrated. this tester hasnt been used in years, but does test well. This is a Hickok 533-A 533A Tube Tester Chassis. It only includes what is shown in the photos. I believe the transformer is good but I cannot be positive. I tested the B+ voltage and filament windings on the 5Y3 and 83 tube sockets. All filament voltage taps that supply the tube filaments were also tested. There are still some good parts on this chassis. Please be advised this is not a complete tube tester and is sold as not working If for any reason there is a problem whether it is with the item. This is a case from a Hickok 533-A tube tester. Other Hickok tube testers may fit in this case. The wood is in good shape but may need some minor wood gluing as normal. There is no wood rot on this case. The fabric is coming off which is fairly normal. The fabric could be replaced if desired or just removed. The cabinet measures about 18-3/8” by 16-3/4” by 7-1/2” The faceplate dimensions of the 533-A are 16” by 14-5/8” If for any reason there is a problem whether it is with the item. Greetings vintage electronic Lovers, Collectors and Techs! Up for auction is a non working Hickok 533A steel cased counter top model. I bought this at a recent estate sale.The previous owner had several testers.This one was in a box and was very dirty.I gave is a cursory wipe down,checked to see if it had tubes,put a fuse bulb in it and tried to power it up. Nothing. The 83 tube doesn't look too good and I don't have another one so that's the only testing that was done to it. I don't have time for another project so I'm passing it along. A few things I noticed: First off.This tester does not power up! The meter needle seems to move freely and when the adjustment screw is turned it does move. Hickok 533A Gold - Calibrated & Everything Within Specs Works Great Late Version
Hickok 533A Tube Tester Later Version that is Gold Anodized This later model has a calibration adjustment pot that can be seen in the pictures that is not on the earlier 533A testers. There are no resistor spools on this newer version 533A. But instead has precision resistors. I will provide a copy of an updated manual(unbound) and that includes calibration instructions and other important adjustment and information not included in the original manual, the schematic, and operating instructions. There is an abundance of available information including the manual, schematics, and tube data available at no charge at Bama and elsewhere for a Hickok 533A. Went through all the calibration steps and checked all the voltage specifications and they were all virtually perfect. Plate voltage. Bias voltages at 100, 75, 50, and 22, signal voltage, screen ... moreand low screen voltage, filament voltages and checked with 6l6 loaded, shorts test, and calibration tubes. The picture with the DMM is showing the line voltage for a 6L6 set at 6.3 volts, and with the 6L6 in the socket the line voltage reads 6.14 volts. The line voltage being correct is critical to obtain proper Gm test results. Many Hickok testers can still be calibrated, but with a tube in the socket the line voltage drops under 6 volts and you get low Gm test readings. Tested a 6L6(Gm is 5475) calibration tube that tests with almost the exact Gm, and a 6AX7 with that also tests close to exact Gm on both sections of the tube at 1440& 1400 Gm that are pictured. The meter is nice and not cluttered with unnecessary numbers making it easy to read the correct Gm or Good/Bad. This 533A also has the noise test which is something that anyone testing tubes for their amps may want to get used to using in order to weed out noisy tubes that test good. It is very easy and once you hear a noisy tube you will understand how the test works. It is almost all original. All the covers are there for the bulbs which is a plus, and the 83 and 5y3GT tubes are as good as new. The original two-

Hickok 533A Tube Tester- Gold Edition! I used this tester for several months as my main bench tester. It has a nice bright meter face and smooth meter movement. It has been a solid performer. There is no top to the case and the case has had the tolex removed and/or is not the original case and is painted black. This will make a nice bench tester for someone. The tester was within specs when I bought it and is still within specs so I have not modified its circuitry. I did replace the aging 83 tube with a SS regulated 83 unit with a 13.4 voltage drop. If the buyer would like me to add the plate current test modification that I do. I can add that at no extra charge. T The roll chart is dated Spring 1970 and moves freely end to end. I will add what other documentation. Including the manual, on CD. I compared this testers results to two other ... moretesters I just finished a refurbish on. A 800A and a 750 and the 6L6 reads right on the nose to my bogie tube, and a 12AX7 tests just a little higher than the other 2 testers, but I believe within tolerances for a field tester of this type. A complete refurbish of this tester would raise the price a couple hundred dollars and its been working very nicely, and that effort would yield somewhat negligible results, so I decided to sell it as it is and offer at a lower cost. Works well; checked with: 5U4, 6AQ5, 6BQ5, 6L6, 6SN7, and 12AX7.
