It applies individual voltages to all elements and sends a varying ac signal to the grid of the tube under test. Its actual amplification factor is measured as a Gm value on the meter. Its the only way to truly match tubes in amplifiers. This tester will handle: 4.5,6,7,8 pin large base tubes; 8 pin octals; 7 pin miniatures; Acorn tubes. It does not have a socket for 9 pin miniatures. It measures Gm. Shorts and leakage/gas. Gm readings 0-3000/6000/15000. TV-2A/U MILITARY TUBE TESTER. Hickok FEDERALTELEVISION TESTS 300B TUBES
This tube tester works great but does need a tuneup I've enjoyed having it. But don't use it much do I'm selling it and will be listing all my tubes in the next week too. It powers up and works great but could use a tuneup. The power cord is starting to Frey and the big porcelain tube socket is cracked and the small cord input could be replaced. The tube chart is a little tight and could use to be reset too. And there are dings in the case. But it still works great I've tested and sold tubes with it on Ebay and never had a complaint. All the meters function and are in great condition with out any cracks. And you can download a manual and updated tube charts on the internet. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. I had to replace the wire wound resistor due to a bad spot on the winding(I will send it and the three clamps with the unit) I looked all over but never was able to find an original one as shown in the picture. I replaced it with a shorter but larger in diameter resister of close to the same specifications as the original. It's been some time, but I believe I was able to achieve the voltages required for proper calibration from the three taps on the replacement ... moreresistor. As you can see the cord needs replacing. (Hickok) Military TV-2C Tube tester, Excellent operating cond. Cal checked NR
This is a nice Military TV-2c(the lastest version) in excellent operating condition. And good cosmetic condition. This is considered by some to be one of the best testers based on the Hickok Gm circuit. I've gone through the complete cal check(there are a few errors in the procedure) and added a few checks of my own. Everything checks out fine and I've tested a bunch of tubes(see the list iin the c/o sheet(last 3 pictures) This includes spare tubes(83 and 6X4) The screen supply rectifier's(6X4) heater is on a winding of the plate/ screen transformer. This causes screen voltage drift as a result of changing the plate fine adjust. This issue is nicely resolved by changing the screen rectifier to diodes, I made a 7 pin plug-in adapter for this. Every switch, pot and meter operate fine. The case has the usual dents and scrapes and ... moreif you're fussy it could use a paint job. The interior and front panel. Including the knobs and meters, are in excellent condition. The roll chart in the lid works very smoothly with no binding. The original manual is in good condition. There are a number of manuals(operating and test) manuals available on the BAMA site: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 and Shipping will be by UPS for 56 lbs from 91784. The dimensional weight rules(UPS and USPS) for the box are what determines this shipping weight. This will require a 24 x 24 x 16in. box for safe shipping. Hickok TV-7/U Military Tube Tester (FOR PARTS OR REPAIR)
Up for auction is TV-7/U tube tester. Included is a tube data booklet. And the pin straighteners. This unit is being sold as-is. For parts or repair. The outer case is from a base TV-7/U unit. While the tag says it is a TV-7D/U, this is not correct, as the tester does not have the"F" scale which is unique to TV-7D/U units. I attempted to test a 12AX7 with this unit, and found that the filament would not fire. The line adjustment does work. I did not troubleshot the problem any further than this. Inside. It looks pretty clean and original(at least to my eye, which is no expert on TV-7 testers) This is a good parts unit or fixer-upper for a qualified technician. Vintage Hickok Military TV 2 C/U Tube Tester
This is a vintage TV 2 tube tester made by LaPointe Industries in good condition. Serial number is# 200. If you know this tube tester it can test many types of tubes with adjustments of many tube variables. I tested a few tubes with this recently after bringing it up slowly on a Variac. It seems to work as described in an online manual I found. But as with any vintage electronics it may need some refurbishment for good operation. This is also not calibrated. One small issue is a hairline crack in the glass on the signal meter. It's very difficult to see, but I wanted to disclose at least everything that I observed. Tube selection roll rotates freely and is in good condition. This is considered a portable tube tester of the dynamic mutual conductance type, but it does weigh almost 40 lbs. It is used to test and to measure performance capabilities ... moreand to determine rejection limit for electron tubes used in receivers, low-powered transmitters, and other electronic equipment. USN Military HICKOK TV-3B/U Tube Tester. In very good cosmetic condition. This acquired from the estate of a radio repairman. Conditions were not the best for some of these pieces. This one seemed to fare well as far as oxidation goes. though there was a bit of sandy dust I've cleaned from the interior. Changed the 100uf& 1 caps after noticing meter would not deflect under slow power up. Can not get meter to work even after changing rectifiers. Suspect meter is shot, but could be something else? NAVSHIPS manual is readily available online free to troubleshoot further. Included is what I believe to be all the extraneous odd tube socket and VOM connectors. These will be pulled from side of unit and shipped inside power cord storage compartment for safety. Roll chart works well with some nudging. Hickok TV-7/U Military Tube Tester Working& Very Nice Conditon all Within SPECS Hiclok TV-7/U Military Tube Tester Works very good and installed new JAN 83 and 5y3GT rectifiers. Would normally say it was calibrated. But according to the manual, it was only tested& adjusted. Bias voltages all within specs, 22, 50, 75, and 100. The plate voltage was checked according to the manual, with a 375k resistor parallel from the cathode to the plate, pin 6& 3, and it is right at 150 volts and specs call for 150 volts. The high screen voltage used the same resistor on pins 6& 4 and was at 129 volts and specs call for 130 + or– 3 volts. The low screen voltage was checked and at 56 and specs call for 56 volts. Also, checked the line voltage with a 6L6 in the socket and it is at 6.1 volts. The meter reads on a 0– 120 scale and I am sure there is a way to convert to Gm. But that info was not included in any of the manuals. This is a military-grade VOM model TS-352 A/U is the meter used by the military in calibrating Hickok tube testers and is noted in the calibration instructions for the TV7 D/U, among others. It has the 1000 ohms/volt scale that is universal to the Hickok calibration instructions, no more trying to figure out what resistors to place over your DVM to get the proper voltages for calibrating, it's all here! Also has 20,000 ohms/volt scale, and a 5kv high voltage section. I purchased this straight from the original owner a year or two ago. It is in amazing un-molested condition with the original documentation. I have printed an additional chart for tube test settings. The roller chart is intact and works. This unit is very easy to use once you get the hang of it. You just dial in the settings according to the different columns. The meters all respond and appear to be accurate. I have not performed a calibration as the unit appeared not to need one since I received it. The manual details the process of how to do this if ever necessary. You will notice that the meter reads percent quality instead of Gm. There is an easy to use formula to convert and information regarding this ... moreonline. The condition is overall really great. One of the rubber coverings for the red test lead is coming off. I-177-B Tester has worked well for testing 5 and 6 pin tubes. I have not tested tubes using the other tube sockets of this tester. I removed the tester from its rugedized case to photograph its interior. No loose or broken parts were discovered. Tubes glow nicely. Tube socket adapter mx-949A/U has not been used by me. I do not know how to use it. Nor do I know if it works properly. The metal case is missing one hook to catch the right latch. From the estate of an avid HAM hobbyist. Fortunately, this one was built bu SIMPSON, A KNOWN LEADER IN ELECTRONIC TEST EQUIPMENT. I tested a number 80 rectifier tube, and it tested very close to what the tube tests on my calibrated TV7-D workhorse. But on a#26 tube, it tested it lower than my TV7-D did. So here is a great, well built tube tester that works but really would benefit from a calibration. I have downloaded step-by-step instructions from the web for calibrating this unit. I have repainted the case, it is amazingly dent-free indication it has been well cared for- most of these have various dents etc. Very original, thew wire for the acorn-type tube clip is dry and brittle, the other leads and power cord is in good condition. Hickok TV-3B/U Military Tube Tester/ Multimeter, Capacitance- Working Condition!
This is an operating Navy tube/voltage/capacitor/resistor tester. It is unique in that it serves as a tube tester. A multimeter, and a capacitance tester, all in one unit! I took this out of my lab storage(basement) not remembering how to use it but lucky to have full instructions right on the inside front panel! The handy scrolling tube chart using a thumbwheel. List all of the most common tubes from the 30's to the 60's. The common guitar amplifier input and power tubes can be tested for matching without buying $60-80 Groove Tubes! Ham radio operators will be able to check their common tubes as well. If you need to check that a tube is present in the scrolling tube index, contact me(yes, 6V6's are included, I just tested one) Of course, since it is Navy, the case is almost torpedo proof! The first photo illustrates the measurement ... moreof a 6AL5. Twin diode tube just to show that the unit works. The second photo shows the measurement of a 0.1uF capacitor-the meter is amazingly accurate! The third picture shows the measurement of a 3.9k Ohm resistor. And again the meter is amazingly accurate. I guess the accuracy was specified(and paid for) by the Navy. To make sure we could win the war.but which war, I do not know. I do not know the age of the unit but the serial number is#2848. I did not even know that this unit was capable of measuring low values of capacitance until I brought it out today. The case is not perfect so it must have had a few shells come close years ago. I have had the unit for about the last 20 years and bought it just to measure tubes on a VERY infrequent basis since everything I have built has been solid state. But when you need a tube tester. This is just for the audiophile. Guitariest, ham radio operator, or collector.

Military TV-7D/U (TV7D, Hickok) 7B meter, calibrated and refurbished
This is TV-7D/U. Which was repaired with a TV-7B/U meter at some point before I owned it. I recently had it refurbished by Steve McKinley of Atlanta Tube Amp so it should be good for a while. He confirmed that this tester has the 7D circuit. The condition is okay considering age, but it is definitely not flawless. The case has some scratches. The acorn socket would have to be repaired if you want to test acorn tubes. I have never needed that socket. It comes with an original manual and one adapter as shown. I show it testing a used EL 34 and a used 6922. Returns are accepted if not as pictured/described. I will open to international shipping if it doesn't sell at listed price.
