Up for auction is a really nice antique rare Westinghouse ammeter that appears to be bakelite material in a oak wooden protective box. T he face of the ammeter is marked VOLT-AMMETER SERIAL NO. 175702 STYLE NO. X416988. The plate in the lower third of the front side of the ammeter reads WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC& MFG. CO. PITTSBURGH. PA. U.S.A. DIRECT CURRENT VOLT AMMETER TYPE FL PATENTED OCT. 5, 97 JUNE 27. 99 MAY 3, 10 FEB. 26, 11 2328 12-13-12. The ammeter appears to be a bakelite material and is housed in a very nice wooden box. Attached to the inside of the box top is a calibration record. The first calibration entered is dated 11-1-1913. I am not sure how to test the ammeter but I did get the indicator to move. There are no cracks. Scratches or flaws to the glass face. The rest of the ammeter appears to be in very good condition! The ... morebox material is oak and both of the hinges and the latch also are in great condition. On the bottom of the box is a crack that does not affect the functionality of the box in any way. The only thing that I could see needs repairing is the front latch. The screws from the inside of the box need to be tightened. That's it! Overall I would say that this ammeter is in very good condition for its age. I have been told that this ammeter is quite rare. I could not find another one on eBay! Don't miss out on this one! Sorry for the shipping charge. The ammeter is just under 9 pounds when packaged. I am not an expert in any field of collectibles. However. I do try to research items adequately before listing. This unit has a serial number of 628525. This units is in good cosmetic condition with acceptable usage and wear marks. No burns or burn smells. Meter moves properly with no sticking that I noticed. Outer case is brown varnished wood. The exterior could use some refinishing. The glass on top of meter is in excellent shape with no cracks. There are 2 vintage test leads included. The insulation on the test leads is deteriorating. The wire inside is weak. The leather-carrying strap has rotted away. Upon researching the item its noted that this a vintage and rare item.
