I used a AA battery to test it and it did deflect the needle but do not know about the calibration. This meter has Patent dates of June 1892. July 1894 and April 1913. The face Measures approx. 6 1/2" across and the back flange is approx. 7 1/4. This item is a Weston Electrical Corporation D.C. Amp Meter. Model 430. The meter still functions perfectly. It has a Zero Correction Knob, as well so you can calibrate it to fit any of your needs. The four knobs on the top are for Ground, 0.1 V, 1V, and 10V source measurements. The first calibration shown for the device was August 28th, 1937! It was used in a physics lab until recently, and has been maintained and calibrated during that time by the department's equipment curators. It is great little meter, and a piece of history. They don't make them like this anymore.I bought a multimeter a couple years ago and it is already broken. This beauty is still accurately measuring amperage after 77 years! It may need a little bit of external cleaning. I believe the exterior is Bakelite, so you can shine it up, quite brilliantly, with some ... morelightly abrasive metal polish. I have a few of these meters that I have collected over the years. Which are now collecting dust. So I am putting several of them up for sale to good homes. Please only purchase this item if you plan to use it as a museum or even simply as a conversation piece. While I appreciate the artistry of the Steam Punk movement.
