Vintage Simpson Load Type Battery Tester Voltmeter Model 245
This auction is for a vintage Simpson Load Type Battery Tester Voltmeter Model 245. Made by the Simpson Electric Company of Chicago. Illinois, U.S.A. Its case, measuring about 5" x 3" x 2" deep. Is made from red bakelite. The DC voltage ranges are: 2 V, 4 V, 8 V, 50 V, 100 V. And 150 V. The higher voltage ranges are for"A" and"B" batteries found in vacuum tube radios. If desired. An internal load can be applied to the battery under test. For example. The 2 V range has a resistance of 2 Kohms with LOAD OFF, but 7 ohms with LOAD ON. This load resistance increases as the voltage range increases. The LOAD ON setting should be used briefly as it quickly drains a battery and generates heat inside the tester case. The condition of this battery tester is as follows: A known test voltage was applied to the probes. ... moreWith LOAD OFF. The meter needle deflected the correct amount on all voltage ranges(see photo for 1.5 V battery test) The LOAD switch and range knob move freely. A wee bit dusty the meter is in very good shape. I see no cracks or chips. Glass intact. I took the back off and took photos. It did have a C Battery but I was unsure how to even test it so its AS IS. Has the red and black cords too. Box in okay shape.some shelf wear.the leather handle is cracked on the surface from being dry. Still secure. Pamplet in good shape. Nice color. Clean pages. It measures 2 and a half inches deep to the end of the terminals and 3 and a half inches across. It shows a little wear but is clean and worked the last time but not sure now selling as is. Vintage Simpson Model 27 Electrical Meter
This is a vintage Simpson Model 27 voltmeter. Its rather peculiar because I haven't found another one like this. It appears to have been professionally made. But I haven't found another one like it. It says Model 27 on the meter face. This is originally supposed to be a DC meter, but it appears to have been modified to read both AC and DC voltage. The needle will move when voltage is applied to it, but don't know exactly how it is determined on the meter face. I took a lot of pictures, so maybe someone out there has seen one like this before. This vintage Multimeter was made by Bach-Simpson. London, Canada. Pointer moved when I used leads and a battery. Am not an expert and sell same as is. Has a leather handle. Weighs 3 lb(1.4 kg) There is damage on the housing on lower left corner. A small piece of the bakelite broken off(3/4" long and 1/4" wide) also a crack at the lower right corner 2" and a crack on the back of 3" Scratch on scan#1 front of meter is on the glass of scanner not the meter.
