Classic Multi-Range AC Ammeter. Western Electro-Mechanical Co. This classic AC ammeter was made by the Western Electro-Mechanical Company of Oakland Calif. Cat. No. 580. Probably in the 1920s or'30s It has ranges of 0-2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200A. Frequency from 25-60 Hz. It uses a moving vane mechanism. The 2A range is connected directly to the movement, but the higher ranges use an internal current transformer. Multiple binding posts on the sides of the instrument select the range. The case is finished hardwood, apparently walnut and the scale is mirrored to eliminate parallax. The meter indicates on all ranges but I cannot guarantee the calibration. The clamp portion is made of a cast metal frame and laminated steel jaws with a heavy black wrinkle finish paint. The handle is made of bakelite. The meters measure 50 Amps and 200 Amps respectively. They will measure AC as well as DC current. The meter cases are made of heavy black bakelite. The clamp has a serial number of: C-61485. The 50 Amp module: 31477C, and the 200 Amp module: C-G1485. This is slightly used and is in excellent condition. The owners initials have been removed from the end so there is a 1/2" by 1 3/4" mark where the initials were removed. This is a Simpson Model 153-2 Amp-Clamp. It must used with a digital AC voltmeter(not supplied) you cannot directly read amperage with instrument. This has leads that plug into an AC Voltmeter. It outputs.1 volts AC per amp. It has 3 selectable ranges 0 to 2 amps, 0 to 20 amps and 0 to 200 amps.This was used only a few times by a private owner, it was not used commercially. This is for use with DIGITAL AC Voltmeters only, NOT for older electromechanical VOM's. It is the buyer's responsibility to determine if this item is suitable for their application PRIOR to bidding.
