It came from the laboratory of a factory and hasn't been used in years. I have no way to tell you if it is working or not. But I have no reason to beleive it isn't. For your consideration is this interesting test instrument that is marked in various places"Sensitive Research Instrument Company/Mount Vernon. New York/Direct Current/Microammeter" and has a dial that measures 0 to 50 microamperes. A Microammeter is an instrument for measuring extremely small electric currents, calibrated in microamperes. The instrument has a black plastic face(may be Bakelite or catalin, since it reacts to Simichrome) with a glass window for the dial. There is a document mounted inside the lid where the model number- S- and serial number- 73952- are recorded, with a date of 1946. The instrument is mounted in an oak box that is 7 1/2 inches square and just over 4 inches tall. The box has a secure latch and a leather strap carrying handle on one end. The box is in excellent condition with no problems except that ... morethe 4 rubber pads for it to rest on are disintegrating, the instrument is visually excellent, with no problems, and I have no idea whether it functions properly. This is a fluxmeter that was used at ohio state university. Very nice shape. This unit is in excellent shape for its age. It's dated 1946. The pointer moves fluidly and does not appear broken. When you open the box up the pointer slowly starts moving with the slightest motion with a very smooth consistent motion. Very clean. It has old leather handle that i would not recommend holding it by. If you are looking at this then you know more about it than i do, so please look over photos carefully to make sure this item meets your requirements. There are no returns offered on used items. This is an interesting instrument. Found at the estate of a machinist/ electrical engineer. Probably from the late 50's early 60's. SENSITIVE RESEARCH Instrument company. Mount Vernon. New York. Capable of measuring 0-500, and 0-1000. Three terminal screws on back of meter. The back of the meter has 2 chips out of the bakelite housing. Some tape or sticker material on the lower left front, which can easily be removed. The glass appears to be intact. No cracks. We have no way of testing this instrument so we cannot attest to its proper function or accuracy. The needle bobs and settles at'0' There is also a correction screw that seems to function properly. This uncommon item has been in storage at a research facility for many years and was previously used for atomic physics experimentation during the 1960s. The item has scuffs. Scrapes and stains to its enclosure from handling; however, it is offered in acceptable physical condition- see photo s. This meter is physically large. The unit stands 17 inches tall and has a 16 7/8 inch X 20 1/2 inch footprin t. The measuring probe extends 7 inches from the enclosure.
