Case is a heavy plastic not sure if it is bakelite, it does have light shelf wear that includes a few scuffs, scrapes and spots. This is a vintage General Electric clamp-on a m meter and voltmeter with a rotating scale in working used condition. It comes with its original leather case in somewhat rough shape but serviceable. The leads have been soldered to the base of the meter- don't know if this was original or a modification. But have just tested them and they do function. This is a heavy duty piece of equipment. AC amperes meter with single scale: 0-25. Rear posts standard panel meter. Case is bakelite. Glass is cracked and meter face had label attached. Otherwise in good condition. I believe this meter is surplus from the laboratories of Wright Field, Dayton Ohio. The instrument appears to function properly. Although I cannot guarantee the function is correct or accurate. I tested by connecting to 110V AC power source and the needle responded and indicated about 20+ amps. Markings from dial: A-C Amperes Model AICRIK4 Type AO-72 General Electric Meter face measures 3.5 inch diameter. Body is 2.75 inch diameter. Instrument is 1.25 inch deep, 2.25 inches deep to tip of posts.

This is a vintage GE made in the USA analog amp meter. From the design. I'd guess it was made in the late 60's/early 70's. Marked X4 442 on the back side. I tested the functionality by briefly connecting a 9v battery to the meter. The needle responded normally. Mild to moderate cosmetic wear. Scuffs to the faceplate. Calibration screw has wear. There is a bit of debris inside the unit that makes noise when you shake it. Probably a bit of dirt, shouldn't affect the functionality, but I thought I should mention it. Up for auction is a rare matchbook cover advertising General Electric inventing their new watthour meter I-50 type. The first completely new watthour meter in 50 years. It is a 30 stick match book produced by Lion match co. Hartford, Conn. On the back of the matchcover is a detailed advertising picture of the new meter with a floating disk. The I-50 meter was a revolutionary advance in metering. Ever since the first meters were made. Jewel bearings had been used which required periodic maintenance to keep the meter accurate. GE had started research on an improved magnetic bearing in 1940, but this was interrupted by WWII. Development of this bearing quickly resumed following the war, and this magnetic bearing significantly reduced the maintenance required and allowed longer intervals between tests. Another major improvement was to incorporate ... morethe brake magnets and full-load adjustment into the frame, simplifying construction and adjustment of the meter. The self-contained version of this model was quickly replaced by the I-55 and I-60, but transformer-rated versions were made into the 1970s and special versions into the late 1980s. The I-50 family of meters is probably the only series of meters where the register and nameplate are one piece, but meters with S/N beyond#42,400,000 do have separate registers and nameplates.

The glass on the front was replaced. the bakelite is cracked. THe meter seems to still be working but can't get a reading. I am not sure if I know how to use it. I clamped it onto shielded wire from extension cords and a lamp but no reading on the meter. The side panels of the meter do change each time the meter function is turned on the bottom of the meter.
