For your consideration is this interesting test instrument that is marked in various places"Sensitive Research Instrument Company/Mount Vernon. New York/Direct Current/Microammeter" and has a dial that measures 0 to 50 microamperes. A Microammeter is an instrument for measuring extremely small electric currents, calibrated in microamperes. The instrument has a black plastic face(may be Bakelite or catalin, since it reacts to Simichrome) with a glass window for the dial. There is a document mounted inside the lid where the model number- S- and serial number- 73952- are recorded, with a date of 1946. The instrument is mounted in an oak box that is 7 1/2 inches square and just over 4 inches tall. The box has a secure latch and a leather strap carrying handle on one end. The box is in excellent condition with no problems except that ... morethe 4 rubber pads for it to rest on are disintegrating, the instrument is visually excellent, with no problems, and I have no idea whether it functions properly. I don’t have the proper tools or know-how to test it so I am auctioning it strictly AS-IS. This piece has the kinds of dings and scuffs you would expect from a vintage piece but no cracks that I can see. The rivets holding the name plate on the front are rusted(pictured) Two of the foot pads are missing. This piece can use a good light cleaning but I didn’t do anything to the surface as I know collectors like to determine what needs done. No probes/ wires are included– just what is pictured(except for my tape measure) I believe the case is Bakelite. But am not sure– it could be plastic. This is a really cool find. This was found high in the rafters of a barn near Sebastian Florida. It looks as though somebody made the case and It gave it a very neat primitive look. Overall in measures 5 inches tall 4 inches deep and a little over four and a half inches wide. I have not hooked any electrical currents to this. So I have no idea the working condition. Powers up comes on, there is only the master operating probe with this unit when I received it.Note there are cracks towards the end of the probe needs glue or the like to mend it. It has been tested and works fine. Leather case is in good condition with signs of wear/age. Meter is in good condition. Tested- Works. Housing shows signs of wear/use. Scratches on metal back plate.
