Vintage Briggs & stratton Model 5S Engine w/ WORKING Sampson JR Generator
For sale is a vintage Briggs and Stratton 5S engine complete with a functional 7.5VDC Sampson JR 100 watt generator. The engine is complete and runs well. I started it today on the first pull after sitting for over 24 hours from previously being started. There is no damage that I can see from the engine. It does smoke a little. But it idles great and runs well at high RPM. The Sampson JR generator appears to be manufactured for this engine based on the method in which it is attached to the block. It functions great and I see no damage to it either. It is a 7.5VDC system at 2.300rpm and produces 100 watts. To let the operator know the generator is working, a factory wired light bulb glows as it is running(the bulb is located just below the two female plugs) I measured the voltage out of both plugs and it measured around 17 volts. The auction ... morealso includes a treble light, pictured, that runs off of the generator. This set-up would make a great show or conversation piece at fairs. 1953 Briggs and Stratton 5S recoil start, refurbished
Here is a little. Well known Briggs& Stratton engine. It is the 5S type and according to the serial number it is made around Dec/1953. It was refurbished by the previous owner. Has good spark and seems overall complete and ready to go. The tank is dry and clean(minor surface rust probably due to humidity, nothing serious) Has a pulley cover(made in Hagerstown/Indiana) which actually slides on the shaft. Don't know if this was done to accommodate various belt sizes, haven't seen too many with those. The shroud is undented. It appears one of the carburetor attachment bolts was broken off. So carb is held in place with only to bolts. The color of the crank case is obviously not original black, but it is easy one the eyes. It also has the correct oil bath cleaner and the original steel muffler(not the thin chinese reproduction) Would ... morebe a nice donor for some vintage gocarts, or to get the youngens into the engine hobby with something easy, light weight and not"the boring black" paint. It is mounted on a board and weighs complete approx. 38lbs. I will drain the oil and can pack properly for shipping. Pickup in the N.GA mountains is ok. Most likely I will ship with FEDEX home delivery service. So the indicated shipping price is just a estimate. Here is another small vintage. Collectible engine. Unfortunately it does not have a data plate, but probably belongs to the Briggs WMB. WI, 5S? series. It is painted in all correct black. Has the correct oil bath cleaner and carburetor. Muffler is missing, but for a couple bucks you can purchase a aftermarket reproduction muffler. The tank as a couple minor dings, although previously cleaned, I guess the high humidity produced a new layer of small rust spots. So the first couple runs you may want to clean out the sediment bowl more often. This is a rope start model and probably was used to power a lawn mower. It does have a good spark and you can see the engine has been gone through. Because of all new gaskets at the oil pan, carb. I will drain the oil and pack properly if it needs to be shipped. 1950 Briggs and Stratton Model 5S, Rope Start, Double Pulley, VERY NICE
Here is another example of a nice Briggs and Stratton engine. This is the 5S model. Type number 70026, serial number 207882. This is a rope start model(rope not included) and it has a double belt pulley on the PTO side. This engine has been refurbished by the previous owner. Disassembled, cleaned, gaskets replaced and test run. It has a nice spark and should only need some oil in the pan and fresh gas to get it going again. The gas tank is clean and dry. Has very minor surface corrosion due to high humidity in the South, but should clean out after the first run. The oil bath cleaner is nice and not dented. Very minor, small dents in the shroud, don't know if they are visible in the pictures. Just noticed while putting it on a scale, the lower section of the shroud seems to have a piece of sheet metal replaced. Professionally welded in ... moreand painted. Not noticeable when mounted. The muffler is extended. You can change it if you like. Overall. Great example of these little engines, good starter engine for a newcomer or young enthusiast. Show ready. Briggs and Stratton Vintage 5S Runs Strong!
Vintage Briggs& Stratton motor. Model 5s. Type#700044, Serial#369649. Has great compression and runs strong! Does not burn any oil. Please look at all of the pictures as they are part of the description. Pull rope is included. Motor has a belt pulley on the shaft and the shaft measures 1 3/4 inches long and 1/2 inch in diameter. Will be drained of oil and fuel for shipping. see my other listings!

Briggs and Stratton 5S lever start stationary engine
Engine has very good compression but no spark may need points. Fuel tank has some junk in the bottom but when I scraped it it came off easily and tank is nice under the gunk. Engine does have a dent in the blower cover as pictured and is greasy dirty so please bid accordingly. I will part out if it does not sell.

It has sat with no oil for a long period of time so does not turn as easily as it should but I think will free up when filled with oil. See the pictures for more info. 1952 Briggs & Stratton model 5S engine appears complete parts or restoration
Nice old motor taken from the barn of a model T collector. Not sure if it will run or not. So I'm listing it for parts or restoration. I hope it just needs a tune up and you'll have a great motor, but I am not mechanically inclined so I didn't even attempt to start it. The serial number indicates that it was manufactured in the spring of 1952 and has an L-HEAD. 2.00" BORE, 1.5" STROKE. A copy of the operating and maintenance manual can be found here: Here are more specifications for the motor: The Briggs and Stratton model 5S was manufactured from 1949 to 1957. This model has a recoil starter to start the engine. This engine used an L-head design. also known as flat head) It was equipped with an adjustable pneumatic governor. The air cleaner on this engine is an efficient oil-bath type. The type L. vacu-jet) carburetor ... morewas used on this model. The exhaust is aspirated through a 1/2" NPT threaded port. Gas tank is mounted externally to the carburetor. The oil sump and head are cast aluminum. The engine block is made of cast iron and utilizes fins for air cooling. Piston and connecting rod are made of aluminum alloy. The crankshaft is counter-weighted and drop forged. Displacement: 6.28 cubic inches. 2.00" bore and 1.50" stroke. Rated at 1.00 horsepower at 2100 rpm. Lubrication: Pump or dipper type. Ignition: High tension magneto. Spark plug: 14mm- Champion J8 or equivalent. Oil sump capacity: 1 pint. Vintage 1953 Briggs & Stratton 5S Engine - Single Cylinder 4-Cycle 4-Stroke NICE
Briggs& Stratton 5S single cylinder. Four-cycle engine. Haven't run it in over a year. Turned it over, didn't start but probably just needs a spark plug and to be gone through. Starting wheel turns smoothly, feels like it has compression. Currently no gas in the tank- no rust in tank. Note: screw that holds oil filter on has snapped(from a garage shuffle, see pic#10) will need to be backed out and replaced. Please refer to pics and email with questions. 1951 Briggs & Stratton Model 5S nice vintage engine
Here is another of my vintage small engines I have to let go. This Briggs and Stratton engine is a Model 5S. Which has the correct suction carburetor and the deep oil pan, making it suitable to be used and re installed on some vintage lawn mowers of the late'40s to late'50s. The 6digit serial number puts it around 1951. As you can see from the pictures. It is nice, clean example, what I would call an older restoration. The engine case. Oil pan, cylinder head.was apart, beat blasted, painted and re assembled. Gaskets have been replaced and points and condenser checked. Cleaned and/or replaced. The flywheel shroud is nice and clean(painted red) and has the grass catcher screen in it as well(many are lost throughout the years) This is a rope start model. The 5S came optional with kick start lever, hand crank lever or recoil start. The ... moretank is undented but shows some minor surface rust on the inside. It does have the correct oil bath air cleaner, which is in very nice condition. This particular I have not had running in the recent past, but it does have a nice spark, so with the usual preparation(fresh clean fuel and some mystery oil) it should run. I would prefer that the buyer picks up the engine(that will also be the time you pay for it) Although the engine is not the heaviest, packing it in a way that it will survive various handlers and truck rides will require sturdy boxes and proper(aka expensive) packing material. I shipped engines before. But be aware that it is not unusual to have a 35-45 price tag on top of the actual purchase price. But please ask for shipping and payment options. If you feel inclined to utilize some of the cheap shipping sites(i.e. Uship) Feel free to request a quote from some of the transporters listed on their website. Briggs & Stratton Gas Engine WMB, 5S, 6S Valve Breather Cover
Here I have a total of four(4) breather covers. Or valve covers because you access the valves stems there after removing this cover. They are all in very nice condition. Some have been sandblasted and primed. If you shop around on Ebay you see them between 6-10 Dollars each. Here you can get all for less than 20 bucks.
