Here we have an old John Deere E 1-1/2 hp gas engine. It tuns over freely. There is little compression. The mag is there but cracked.There are no cracks breaks or repairs on that I see on any of the castings. There is still some original paint and decals visible. See pictures for condition. For auction is an original John Deere model E Exhaust muffler with 1-1/4" NPT threads. I believe this muffler will fit both the 1.5& 3 HP motors. The muffler is in overall good condition for it's age. There are some small pits on the outside body of the muffler but nothing out of the ordinary. The baffle plates appear to be in good condition. 1 1/2 HP John Deere Hit and Miss Engine on Original Factory Cart
Up for sale is a nice little 1 1/2 HP John Deere hit and miss gas engine. This is a nice complete engine on the original factory cart. The original factory Deere carts are even rarer than the engines! I've sold these carts for $600-$700 before. But this one is in excellent condition and goes with the engine. The serial number is 319964 making it a 1930 model. I don't see any missing or broken pieces on this engine. No repairs that I can see. I also looked and didn't see any freeze cracks. That all being said, this engine is 83 years old and has to be sold as it due to the age. I turned it back and forth a little bit and the engine seems to be nice and smooth and tight(no knocks) but I didn't want to turn it over before the magneto and rocker arm/valves are loosened and oiled. I took this engine out of a shed where it had been ... moresitting for probably 40 years. It is a nice original barn fresh engine that would make an excellent project for someone. It shouldn't take a lot of work to have it up and going. The fuel tank even looks really good from the outside. About the only thing I can see that is worn is the pulley. It has some holes in it from having a belt wrapped around it and being wet, but it shouldn't hurt anything for just being a show piece. Antique John Deere E Hit Miss Stationary Gasoline Engine - 1928 1-1/2 HP farm
For your consideration. Antique John Deere E 1-1/2 HP stationary gasoline hit miss farm engine on wooden skids I took it mostly apart last fall and cleaned it out and put new oil and gas in it. I tried to fix the gas tank- but it is still leaky. This engine needs an oil pan. Appears to be a very old restoration- had it running last fall- has good compression& has a good mag. The water jacket/hopper appears to have been repaired some time in the past. You will also need a spring for the trip finger. The bearings seem to be good. There is an old weld on the rocker arm(picture 6) Serial number(279549) dates this engine to 1928 according to the information I found online. This will make a great restoration project for someone with more time than I have right now. If you have questions about something. John Deere Hit & Miss Engine E 1 1/2 hp Antique 1928 Cast Fly Wheel Magneto Old
You will be hard pressed to find one any greaser than this one. A true barn find. This 1928 John Deere 1.5 hp. model E. starts and runs well on the magneto with good compression. I have found no damage or repairs to the engine or to what I believe to be the original cart. Only down side other than the dirt and grease. Is oil in the gas so it will need at least a new pan gasket and possibly a new pan. The gas tank appears to be solid. Clean it up or leave it dirty the choice is yours. This is a stuck Model E John Deere 1 1/2 hp hit and miss engine. The serial number indicates it is a 1929. The things that are missing that I know of are: Intake valve and spring. Magneto side plate, the hand crank pin and spring and crankcase plug. I see no cracks except for the exhaust lever and I see no welds or repairs. There is a gas tank but it may need replacing. I have to relist this engine due to the non payment by the buyer. They bid on it and a hour later sent email saying I can't buy this engine I have no money. Good running John Deere E 1 1/2 hp engine for sale. It has very good compression 3 turns and it fires right up. Has very good magneto also has rebuilt igniter. All new gaskets and we have had this engine a long time. Always used this engine for doing show's. Had it running a well pump and a corn sheller and it never let us down. But we need to sell it now. The magneto and igniter alone cost over $600.00. We have bought some big wood crate's and can ship this engine through Fastenal at buyer's expense. We will get the engine packed in the wood crate and drop it off. Buyer will be responsible for shipping cost.
