2 1/2 hp Brownwall Hit & Miss Antique Gasoline Engine
Offered here for auction is very nice. And somewhat rare Brownwall Antique Gasoline Engine. It's in original as found condition, the crankguard was missing, so I purchased a reproduction, and it can be seen in the photos. It has a very nice cast iron muffler, I made some minor repairs, such as, a new needle valve seat, and fuel line, the only thing left that needs to be done is, flush out the fuel tank, which is a cast iron tank, and is part of the base. All the bearing's are tight, and it has great compression. The flywheels run true, and have raised letters cast into them. This engine is fired by a buzz coil and battery, coil and battery not included. The auction starts at $.01 and will be sold to the highest bidder, payment must be made by either a bank certified check, or certified postal money order within 3 days of sale. Only ... morethese two types of payments are accepted. I can store this engine for up to 60 days providing it is paid for, any shipping costs are the buyers responsibility. Rock Island 1 HP Hit & Miss Old Gasoline Gas Engine Alamo Empire
PLEASE NOTE: Several people have expressed serious interest in this cute little engine and claimed that they would buy it if it was complete. I started looking for the missing parts this morning(1-28-13) and found that Lee Anderson- phone 218-334-2404 has reproduction ignitors available for $195 plus $12 shipping. Bill at Starbolt Engine Supply- phone 301-874-2821 makes the crankshaft cover or guard for $55 plus $13 shipping. John Wanat- phone 203-938-3771 makes a reprocution fuel tank for $54 plus shipping. I figure the availability of these new parts will make this engine project more appealing to most engine collectors. This 1 HP Rock Island hit& miss old gasoline engine is in relatively good original condition. I suspect this is the smallest engine in the Rock Island line and is very likely much harder to find that the larger 1-1/2 ... moreHP and larger engines might be. I am not an expert on this particular make of engine but I suspect it was built by Alamo and marketed by the Rock Island Plow Company of Rock Island. Illinois. There may also have been an identical engine sold under the name of Empire but I am not sure of that. This is a cute little engine with flywheels that are only 17-1/2" in diameter. This engine is 29" long not counting the later fuel tank. It is 20" wide and 19" high to the tops of the flywheels. The serial number A22384 is on the brass tag and is also stamped on the front of the water hopper but is mostly coverd up with paint. This gem was fixed up many years ago and has been inside here in relatively dry Montana since that time. The engine still turns over and has some compression but I have not tried to make it run and do not intend to try to make it run. The original ignitor is missing and has been replaced with a plate with a spark plug in it. It appears that someone added an ignition cam to the outside of the original exhaust valve cam but that ignition cam appears to be missing. The original mixer appears to be in excellent condtion. This is a somewhat rough New-Way engine that I saved from being scrapped recently. I can find no serial number plate on it anywhere so I am guessing that it is of about 3 to 4 horsepower or so. The flywheels on this engine measure 24" in diameter. It appears that it went through a fire many years ago that melted out the babbit main bearings. The crankshaft appears to be bent a bit because the flywheels are about 2 inches closer together at the top than they are at the bottom. Restoring this engine will be a big task but it can be done. I figure it will be most useful for a parts engine. The flywheels. Base, cylinder, connecting rod cover, magneto mounting base and magneto drive gears appear to be useable. I will add more information soon. Aerothrust Hit & Miss era rare antique twin cylinder gasoline engine
Here is a pretty rare old engine. It is an Aerothrust engine used with an airplane prop and mounted on the back of a boat to push you through the water. This engine is NOT stuck. It turns freely and has the original ignition system, fuel tank and carb. all often missing. There are parts missing like th prop, prop guard and the boat mount. From what I have been able to tell they made 2 sizes of this engine a small about 2 HP and a large about 5 HP. This is the larger size. I am selling this for a 91 year old friend that had plans on getting it going and putting it on a Jon boat. He has decided that it just will not happen and asked me to sell it for him. Hit miss Briggs and Stratton gasoline engine FH Straight Fin 1920s
I believe this to be a late 1920s briggs and Stratton model Fh straight fin. It looks to have been out in the weather for some time it is stuck however most of the bolts came loose easily. The flywheel has 3 fins with the corners chipped but looks to be in great shape other than that. See pictures for condition. Up for auction with no reserve.

For the young(at heart) person who wants to play with a neat little gas engine. A good starting project for a young mechanic. It came from a Jacobsen lawn mower back in 1950. Nice old curved brass Nash engine tag. Measures 7 x 3/12 inches and the old engine ad is an original also from a 1910 magazine. The tag is off a 20 hp engine with 3369 as the serial number. I do not know the age of the tag but it must date to the early 1900's to correspond to the magazine ad. The tag has never been cleaned and has that over 100 year patina. Allmen built by debolt machine 1989 1991 production. The Allman inverted engine was designed in the 1890's. Our engine is a 1/3 scale copy of the 1 H.P. It has a 9" flywheel 1 1/4" bore. With a eccentric type Cam system. It utilizes the cast iron radiator for cooling and has high tension(Spark plug) ignition system with a unique spark saver. This is a very hard to find original sales catalog for the early International Harvester Gasoline Tractors. It is from about 1910 and measures about 7 3/4 x 9 3/4 inches and has 32 pages. It shows all of the tractors from 12-20hp and different configurations and features. It also shows the different options and attachments in great detail. It is heavily illustrated and also shows many working photos of the tractors. It is a very classy catalog and has embossed covers both front and back. It is a great reference book and would be a fine addition to your early engine or agricultural advertising library especially if you like the early IHC tractors. It would also look great displayed with your tractor or equipment at the shows. It is in good condition for it's age with no missing pages. I does have some minor wear. For sale a very rare and unusual pump jack for a Waterloo antique stationary gas engine. Pump jack plate that holds the well pump is marked waterloo gasoline engine company. I have not seen another one like this and would be a great addition to a waterloo or john deere collection. Pump is loose but missing small gear and pulley. Vintage ACME Stationary Hit Miss Gasoline Petrol Engine Rawleigh Schryer
This is a 2 1/2hp hit miss engine tagged as the Acme Engine Company from Lansing Michingan. It was actually built by Rawleigh Schryer of Freeport Illinois. It turns over and has decent compression. Mechanically it is in pretty good shape but does have some issues. The head has been welded and will need to be cleaned up. A nut has been welded to the mixer for needle valve to screw into. Part of the rocker arm mount flange has broken off- I do have the piece that broke out. Governor collar and detent roller are rather pitted from rust. Biggest issue is that all the poured in place babbitt bearings have been melted out. The mains now have babbitt inserts laying in the rough cast bearing pockets and are crudely shimmed with washers. Rod is the same way but has bronze inserts. This is poorly done and proper babbitt must be poured before the engine ... morecan really be run. I did get it to pop a few times by squirting gas in the mixer but didn't want to chance things anymore than that. I've not had this engine apart or been further into it other than quickly cleaning the ignitor. Yes this engine needs work but I don't think it will be a difficult project. Look at all the photos very carefully and feel free to ask questions. Payment is either greenbacks or certified cheque unless prior arrangements are made. Willing to exchange this engine for another unusual hit miss engine or vintage Indian motorcycle parts. Let me know what you have. Engine is located in Mocksville North Carolina.
