This is a Maytag Battery- Coil Upright Multi-Motor 2 Cycle Gas Engine. From An Early Gas Powered Model 43 Wood Washer From About 1916- 1921. This is In Need Of A full Restoration.Or to Use For Parts. The Engine Is Clean& will Be Easy To Get Appart. This Still Has All Of the Original Crown Headed Bolts. The Cylinder Jug Is Nice But The Top Fin Is Broken As Can Be Seen In the Pictures, Bore looks Good As does The Piston, But Will Need Rings, Seems to fit the cylinder nice! The original Governor is missing. But I Have A one-piece Governor Arm That I am Including, As well As A useable commutator, the Main Bearing Has One Ear That Will Need repaired, as well as One of the mounting Feet, I Am Also Including A piece from Another engine That Can Be used to Fix it, I have fixed A couple in the Past This Way& It works good. This is The More ... morecommon Style Upright With A"Rib" In The Middle of the crank case. the Carburetor Mounted on the Side Of the Crank case, Not On The Main Bearing. This Engine Has A pretty Nice Flywheel But Does Not Have A Serial Number Stamped on it! Many Upright Engines Do Not Have A serial Number On Them OR They Are Old& Rusty Enough that They are not there. Upright 1/2HP Maytag, Fruit Jar Gas Engine Model E Carburetor, REBUILT!
Here is a nice E carburetor. It has a new seat installed in the air valve. Air valve has been ground and body(to block) has been trued. Check ball and seat(upper) are in good shape and there is a later model pickup tube installed on it. The threads for the pickup tube were stripped out, so a new piece was soldered into the lower body of the carb with new threads. The gaskets under the hex plugs are worn out, but can be sealed with sealer if so desired. Since we sell mostly vintage items. Upright 1/2HP Maytag Gas Engine Flywheel E Carb Hit & Miss
Here is a nice flywheel with original patina. It looks as if there is no paint on it. But is a good"barn Fresh" look. There are no cracks or breaks on it with exception of a small chunk out of the hub. It will run with this piece missing, but will put strain on the rest, possibly breaking it off too. What I did was put a small piece of metal in the spot and then clamped it with a band(small radiator) clamp. I didn't run it for hours straight, but it didn't ever break or crack out any further. Serial number is 89285. Since we sell mostly vintage items. Most are not perfect and have defects, please ask questions if you have any. Elgin Wheel & Engine Company 1/4 HP Upright LEFT HAND MAYTAG Hit Miss Gas Motor
This offering is for one of the Rarest engines you can want to look for in the Elgin line. The 1/4 HP Elgin Engine and Wheel Works"Left Hand" Engine. Left hand meaning everything about this engine is different or backwards from the usual Elgin. It look like a mirror image of the usual Elgin. The engine is built to run opposite direction of the regular engines and the exhaust even comes out the right side instead of the front. Look at the pictures and you will see what I mean. There is only one other of these that I know of and its exactly identical to mine. I am sure there are more but I do know where. These are far and few between. There are some welds and repairs on fins and vanes. One vane has a piece missing. This engine also does something that the regular Elgin's do not do. Elgin Works cut a slot in the flywheel hub for ... morea belt starter clip to catch in. The ink pen is pointing this slot out. This is only seen on these left hand engines. I believe that pictures can describe something far better then I can so I am giving you a gob of pics to look over. Ask any questions you need. One mounting is broken, it has a chipped cylinder fin, one fin on the flywheel is chipped and an ear on the main bearing is cracked. I took pics to try and show everything. The Engine Is Loose& Has Some Compression. It Is Clean& will Be Easy To Get Apart, This Still Has Most Of the Original Type Bolts.
