I also applied U-40 Cork Seal to the handle. There is very little rust anywhere. Also, the cork is in great condition, especially considering the rod is over 70 years old. The guides are kind of bent but still fully functional. There are 3 guides (including the tip). All guides are tight. The copper windings are firmly in place. The cork grip is 4 1/4 in. The rod has a slight bend just below the tip top. There is no cracks in the plastic pieces above the handle. The rod weighs 9.6 oz.

Here is a old vintage steel fly fishing rod. Marked"Bristol" on the reel seat. There are 4 sections total and 3 of the sections extend out and self-store in each other. Lenght when closed is about 40 inches. The overall extended length is about 107 inchs(almost 9 feet) All 4 of the line guides are good(maybe some minor bends) The base section is 6 sided(hexagon) The cork on the handle is damaged quite a bit. The metal handle butt cap is present. Both reel seat clamps are good. I see no other damage or repairs. I took several photos so you judge the cosmetic condition from the photos. Some wear from handling and use but overall quite nice condition. I do not know how old it is but it is vintage. It is a neat looking an unusual vintage fishing collectable. The rod is not bent or ding. It is a metal of some type. The handle is cork and is in fairly good condition with only a small area of slight damage. See the pictures. This rod is made of steel with 4 telescoping 6 sided hexagonal sections, the eyes and furls look to be nickle plated and brass, the handle is made of cork, the rear reel mounting ring is cracked, all rod sections are strait, no bends, all of the sections extend and collapse smoothly, the finish has some chips on the handle but the rod sections are in very nice condition, the cork handle is dark from use but is in good condition, total length is 107 inches extended, 41 inches collapsed and the handle is 8 1/2 inches

VERY cool old metal Fly Rod! Very nice older steel rod for the collector. This is a long close to 8 feet when pulled apart. The old fly rod is about 3 feet 2 1/2" when together. It extends into three sect ions the handle. A mid piece and the upper piece. It contains only three guides all in goo d shape. For your consideration.This is a vintage,Ca 1930's Bristol Steel 108"39 1/2" closed)telescoping fly rod in near mint condition with original cloth cover with tag that has some issues with a 17" tear and one hole not shown.There are no bending problems and the 4 sections are slightly tight,but telescope perfectly.The top 3 sections appear to be copper(or at least copper clad.The lower section is painted in green.The eyelets are soldered into place and are nearly flawless except for one small(1/8" x 1/16" loss and retain their original shiny chrome surface.The cork handle is clean and flawless.This rod does not appear to have ever been fished and if it was,it was very seldom. The original cloth case is showing it's age with a 17" split and one area with some small holes(not pictured)The tag is still very ... morelegible with the Bristol name and instructions for care on the reverse side of the tag. The rod weighs in at 9 ozs. I just have never personally seen a vintage Bristol rod in better condition and this would be worthy of any collection.The man who originally purchased this was born in 1912 and the elderly niece I purchased this from believes her uncle acquired this in the 1930's. Vintage Bristol Extendable Steel Fishing Rod & Reel, Horton Mfg Co Bristol Conn
Up for auction is a vintage Bristol extendable metal fishing pole made by Horton Manufacturing Company in Bristol. Conn. I found this rod and reel combo at an estate sale. The owner was an avid fisherman and had this combo and other memorabilia hanging in this den. I do not know a lot about this rod, but understand that the earliest production occurred around the turn of the century and they became popular for many years. This rod extends to almost 8 feet. There are three rod sections and they look like the upper two sliding sections are made out of copper. The handle supposedly can be attached in either of two directions allowing the rod to be used as either a fly pole or casing pole depending how the lower section is attached. The sections slide without difficulty and the eyelids are firm. The rod sections are hexagon in shape. I would ... moresay the rod is in good condition in consideration of its age. Vintage BRISTOL Steel Takedown Casting Rod, 3 Pieces Plus Handle, VG
Up for auction here is a nice vintage steel takedown casting rod made by The Horton Manufacturing Company of Bristol. Connecticut. The model is the Bristol. The rod consists of three sections plus the handle section. The longest of the three sections(the tip) measures about 20 inches. When assembled, the rod is about 56 inches long and has a stiff action. Patent dates of 1887 and 1889 appear on the handle section. This steel rod is in remarkably good condition and shows no signs of abuse. It will ship by Priority Mail as a 2-pound package. Winner will pay actual cost of shipment from Pennsylvania. For sale is a lot of 5 vintage steel fishing rods. 4 of them are telescoping and one is not. The one piece solid rod I cannot find a maker on. All of the rods are in poor or fair used condition. The cork on many of them has been chewed up or worn down. Most have some level of rust and can be a little difficult to move. Ends on a few of these are also bent. Well worn, but some could still be used or they would be perfect for rustic decorating! Here are some additional details on each rod: One piece rod I am not sure of maker this one is probably in the best shape too. 5' 4" Luckie rod the end piece does not stay in and will pull all the way out. 8' Union Hardware pistol grip end piece also pulls out on this one. 7' 11" Bristol green handle end bent. Here is a old vintage steel fishing rod. Marked"Bristol" on the reel seat. There are 4 sections total and 3 of the sections extend out and self-store in each other. Length when closed is about 39 inches. The overall extended length is about 102 inches(about 8 1/2 feet) Some wear to the paint. 3 of the line guides are good and securely mounted. The 3rd line guide from the top is a bit loose. The base section rod itself is 6 sided(hexagon) The handle is cork and is in nice condition for this material. It has just a little chipping at the base. The metal handle butt cap is present. Both reel seat clamps are good(aluminum ring and iron theaded round nut) Main stem of handle is aluminum I see no serious damage nor repairs. I took several photos so you judge the cosmetic condition from the photos. Some wear from handling and use but overall ... morequite nice condition. I do not know how old it is but it is vintage. It is a neat looking an unusual vintage fishing collectable. It is in as found condition and will look even better if properly cleaned. See photos for details. Scuffs, and corrosion. There is some surface rust on the bottom section shown in a photo below. The rest of the copper coated steel is in pretty good condition. The handle has a few marks in the rubber and it looks like it's missing an end piece? The guides are stainless and show signs of wear from putting the rod on the ground. There are no maker marks on the rod but this sure looks like a Bristol compared to others I have found online. There are a couple small stickers on the rod but they are not readable. Up for bid is this Horton Bristol all steel 4 piece fishing pole with sock or case fresh from a estate sale. The overall length is 80' and the 3 sections are 24' long and the handle is 14'long. There is two patd. dates Mar. 8-87 Jan. 8-89 The steel pole was made by The Horton Mfg Co. Bristol Conn. The metal pole is well made and has welded eyelets that may be brass the black finish is worn the pole has no cracks and the handle is well made and all the screws are tight it could use a cleaning and lubrication. The end cap removes to store fishing lures or gear the cap has a dent in it.The finish is chrome but some of the finish is worn thru and it looks like brass on parts of the handle. the cloth sock or case has no brand markings and has some staining and one seem is open and can repaired with some minor holes due to the age of ... morethis fishing pole the strings that hold the case close also are somewhat worn.There is a thumb screw to hold the reel on the handle. Vintage Bristol telescoping Steel fly rod fishing pole- 8'10" Collapsible to 3'4" You are bidding on a vintage Bristol telescoping steel fishing rod which measures 8'10" when extended and 3'4" collapsed length. Condition: The cork is in good condition and the reel seat is in very nice condition and straight with no bends The round steel rod has some minor rust spots. All four stainless steel eyes are in very good condition( no bends. Dents or detachments) The main butt section of the rod has factory grey paint. The extended portions of the rod have a copper colored cast to them. The company logo"Bristol" is on the reel seat. Bidding starts at $9.99 and shipping is $10.85.

8 Vintage Steel Fishing Rods Fly/Spinning Rods Shakespeare. Sport King, Bristol, Triumph, Wards, Superior, VIM. 8 Vintage Steel telescoping fishing rods make up this lot. Six have reversible handles so you can switch from fly to spin. Two are spin only. There is a ninth rod but only three pieces. No handle. Names that I can make out are Triumph, Sport King, Superior, Wards, Shakespeare, Bristol, and VIM. All rods are round except the Bristol is six-sided. All are used and will show evidence of such use including some rust and corossion, dings and dents, etc. One is missing a reel seat ring, another has a crack in the reel seat, one is missing the cork handle. Some have agate quides. All in all, a good representation of this generation of fishing rods. Please view all the photos and e-mail any questions you may have.
