The rings are whipped in copper wire for additional strength and the crimson whipping is in good order, however, the varnish has some small patches of loss and one of the top sections has paint splashes on it. Manufacturer Milward, Length(mm) 2780, Weight(g) 300, Condition The rod is in pretty good shape. The bindings are all tight and unfrayed. Canes are all well stuck together and not separating anywhere. All eyes are present and undamaged. Although they all have surface rust and would definitely need to be cleaned up if it was ever to be used. The varnish is not flaking, however it is showing its age with crazing and wrinkling. Cork on the butt is good but age discoloured. All the brass fittings are good, just need a good clean and polish. The bag is very discoloured and perished in quite a few spots. Milwards 'TroutRover' Split Cane Rod - 9 Foot 3 Piece - Outstanding Condition
This 9 Foot Milwards"Troutrover" rod is in excellent condition and crying out to be used. This is a later(mid to late 60's) rod and the Milwards'Iron Man' logo has been discontinued. The ferrules are now standard reinforced style and the rod bag no longer has press studs and a zip top. This rod is listed in Farlows 1966 catalogue as a versatile rod, suitable for Loch& Lake fishing, also the small stream. The listing adds that the rod is 9ft, 3 piece 1 tip, weighs 6 1/4 ounces, line weight is AFTM#6, and the 1966 price was £8.15.0d. These rods are probably around the last to be individually finished including hand whipping and varnish. This rod shows little sign of use. The rings, with lined tip ring, are as new, whippings likewise, ferrules just as they should be and the original ferrule plugs still fitted. ... moreClose examination will show two very small chips in the varnish on the butt section and I can find nothing else detrimental. Wow! Heres a nice one. 3 piece split cane/bamboo spinning rod with extra tip. Comes with the original sock and what looks to be a wooden 4 sided section holder covered in green canvas. Notice that hole in the top of the canvas sock. All 4 sections are 35 inches each give or take a bit. 8 ft. 9 inch complete? I cant find any markings anywhere. So it could be a custom made rod or maybe an import? Tip tops are very unusual to me. One winding is a differant color on the butt section, so it may have been rewraped? I dont know much about these kind of rods, so just look it over and use your own judgement. Neat rod either way in pretty good shape. Very hard to find model. Wow! Look closely and bid accordingly. Split-Cane Fly Rod, 3 Piece, Very Nice, Possibly Edwards
Up for auction is a gorgeous 3 piece. 1 tip bamboo fly rod. The maker's name is basically unknown, however, from the reel seat and ferrules it could be an Edwards. It was obviously a very well-made rod considering the level of craftsmanship shown in the reel seat and ferrules. They are nickel silver and very nicely made. This rod has obviously been refinished at some point and very well. Indeed. Although the tipping wraps are a bit wide, it must be understood that not all of the oldest makers used tiny, thin tipping like you find today on the best fly rods. I suspect this is a very old fly rod due to the configuration of the reel seat and the overall action of the rod. It is a slow action rod. Whippy even. But once you get used to it there is a certain gracefulness to a slow action rod that is a bit addictive. The tip is 1.25" short ... morewith the other two sections coming in at 35.75" so this was a 9' rod originally. It takes a fairly light line, a four or five weight works well. A well-made cotton. Sectioned bag and quality aluminum screw top tube are included with this rod. This fly rod is not perfect. If it were. I would be asking much more than I am here. However imperfect it might be, it is nevertheless a very beautiful old bamboo rod in what is actually superb condition. Take it fishing. That's what it was made for!

Here for auction is a vintage split cane flyrod. Cork handle. I see no makers marks on it. The pieces measure 36.75. 37 1/8 and 32.25” long. The tip is missing its ferule. There are some chips out of the cork handle. I have no idea as to what to look for in these older flyrods so am doing the best I can with images and descriptions. This is old and has been used. R Chapman & Co "700" 3 piece split cane pike fishing rod
We have here my R. Chapman& Co. Ware, Herts"700" split cane pike rod. I understand that there was a Chapman"Dennis Pye 700" 3 piece 10' 3" pike rod made in the 1960's and this is a later version based on the same design. Looking on their website there is a specification for the Chapman"Dennis Pye 700" and this rod looks very similar except in the original spec, the cork handle is 26" x 7/8" and this is 28 1/2" in length, so perhaps a custom made rod? The butt section from end to end is 123 cm and the tip section is 118 cm and the cork handle is 72.5 cm.The rod comes with an original bag but the label is missing.

The rod measures 12 foot 5 inches. including the handle) in overall length. The fittings and adjustable"screw-grip" reel seat to the butt section are in alloy. It has a"lockfast" joint. Which has retained much of their original finish and are a good snug fit. All of the rings are present and well attached, the top and bottom ring are agate lined. The burgundy whipping is in good order and the joints have been strengthened with copper wire. There is a small ... moreamount of wire missing from the the bottom joint. The varnish has discoloured underneath the whipping and there are some chips to the varnish mainly to the bottom and middle sections. The rod also has the usual marks and scuffs you would expect from a rod of this age. The rod appears to be straight. The cork handle is missing a small patch underneath the reel seat. The aluminum butt and reel ring has"Made by Hardy's England" and the number"H60147" 1964) Just above the handle the rod has"Regd. Trademark Palakona" The Wye" and"9" hand written in indian ink. The rod has its' original bag. Ferrule stopper and spanner, there is also a spare top section, however, this is missing its' whipping to the joint and the top ring has been replaced and re-whipped. The rod has a lovely feel when held. Well balanced, sturdy, and it has taken on a super depth of colour over the years. All in all. This is nice useable example of a classic"Hardy Brothers" rod, which requires a little TLC to bring it back to vibrant life. here is a lovely hardy taupo fly rod each lenght measures 41 inches its a 3 piece 10ft model that has had new eyes whipped on apart from the top one thats original with red agate and the rod is full length. it has been varnished and looks great only couple small things the cork has a very small piece missing see pics and a tiny bit of corrosion on screw thread for reel but doesn't affect the rod at all. the rod is lovely and straight comes in its sock and 1 stopper.it has the number h24621 on the seat with the usual hardy logos. the ari hart taupo reel does not come with the rod thank you. VINTAGE FOSTER BROS. 3 PIECE 13FT SPLIT CANE FISHING ROD EX.COND. WITH BAG
This great rod is in excellent condition. The varnish is perfect and everything is intact. There are 2 wooden end stops of which one was stuck solid in the rod end. I managed to get it out with great difficulty and realised that the reason why the rod was so perfect was that the owner had not used it because the end stop would not come out. The rod says on it Foster Bros. Ashbourne, it does not give a model name. The bag is the original and is ok for its age but a bit tatty. I have photographed every section of the rod as being 13ft long it was the best way to give a detailed look at it. The bigger of the two end stoppers got damaged as a result of removing it from the rod. I glued the two chips of wood back on. I would not advise using the stoppers again just in case they lodge in as the lower part of the stoppers look like they are made ... moreof cork. J.J.S. Walker Bampton& Co. were a reputable British company based in Alnwick. Northumberland. The company employed ex Hardy employees. Walker Bampton set up a rod and reel building operation in the early 1930s until around 1968. There were quite a few such firms around in the inter-war years. Allegedly due to the unscrupulous hiring and firing practices of Hardy Brothers- apprentices being employed until the age of 21 when they would be entitled to a man's wage, at which point they were unceremoniously fired. The Walker Bampton rods shared many of the characteristics of the Hardy rods. The ferrules were based on the patented Hardy lockfast ferrule. A Walker Bampton nine ft. rod in the 30's cost from thirty pounds upwards. Wages were then three pounds per week so they were luxury goods. This fabulous"Hardy's" Hollokona. The Hollolight" split cane rod is in"as found" condition and it has not been restored or repaired by us. The rod measures approximately 8 foot 6 inches long. including the handle) in overall length. The fittings and reel seat to the butt section are in gold coloured anodised metal. The fittings have retained much of their colour, however, some of the gold colour has worn away from the end of the butt. The butt and tip rings are agate lined and all of the rings are present and well attached. The black and gold whipping is mostly in good order. However ... morethere is a little fading a cracking of the varnish below the rings and three circles of whipping to the bottom section of the rod show a little damage. The rod has suction joints which are a good snug fit, the varnish appears to be free from crazing, however, there is some staining mainly to the edges of the rod sections. A very nice vintage rod by R.Chapman named the"Hunter" It' s a 3 piece bottom rod of 14ft 3in in excellent condition in original bag. The bag has a tear at the bottom of the section of about 2 inches where the butt section goes that could be stitched up. The original badge on the rod bag has faded and you can just make out the Chapmans name.
