The rod is not bent or ding. It is a metal of some type. The handle is cork and is in fairly good condition with only a small area of slight damage. See the pictures. It measure 43 3/8" long closed and about 84" when extended out. It might go longer I do know. I did not force it. The handle is marked Bristol. This rod is made of steel with 4 telescoping 6 sided hexagonal sections, the eyes and furls look to be nickle plated and brass, the handle is made of cork, the rear reel mounting ring is cracked, all rod sections are strait, no bends, all of the sections extend and collapse smoothly, the finish has some chips on the handle but the rod sections are in very nice condition, the cork handle is dark from use but is in good condition, total length is 107 inches extended, 41 inches collapsed and the handle is 8 1/2 inches

Vintage NM 9' Bristol Steel Telescoping Fishing Rod w/Cloth 3 Copper Sections
For your consideration.This is a vintage,Ca 1930's Bristol Steel 108"39 1/2" closed)telescoping fly rod in near mint condition with original cloth cover with tag that has some issues with a 17" tear and one hole not shown.There are no bending problems and the 4 sections are slightly tight,but telescope perfectly.The top 3 sections appear to be copper(or at least copper clad.The lower section is painted in green.The eyelets are soldered into place and are nearly flawless except for one small(1/8" x 1/16" loss and retain their original shiny chrome surface.The cork handle is clean and flawless.This rod does not appear to have ever been fished and if it was,it was very seldom. The original cloth case is showing it's age with a 17" split and one area with some small holes(not pictured)The tag is still very ... morelegible with the Bristol name and instructions for care on the reverse side of the tag. The rod weighs in at 9 ozs. I just have never personally seen a vintage Bristol rod in better condition and this would be worthy of any collection.The man who originally purchased this was born in 1912 and the elderly niece I purchased this from believes her uncle acquired this in the 1930's. An old Sport King telescoping steel fly rod and an old BRISTOL telescoping steel fishing pole with an old Aluminum and brass tube which they will be shipped in. Pictures 3 thru 7 are te Bristol and 8 thru 12 are the Sport King. The Sport King extends from 3' 5" to 7' 11" The Bristol extends from 3' 4" inches to 9 feet long. The middle two eyes of the Bristol were apparently welded or soldered back on by someone at some time. The aluminum tube says Champion MFD by CAL-AIR Products Los Angeles CA. I have no idea what it was originally used for but it looks like a fishing pole tube and they both fit in it. It is 2 inches in diameter and 45 inches long. The cap screws into a brass threaded fitting and has an O-ring on it. Other than minor damage to the cork grip this rod is in very good plus condition. The telescoping feature allows it to be set at any length you desire. Up to a fly rod length of 7'9" The butt section is painted brown and the two telescoping sections are copper plated steel. The handle section is detachable and can be reversed for either a casting or fly rod configuration. The shaft is hexagonal to mimic a bamboo rod. This is stamped only"Bristol" on the reel seat, which is a trademark of the Horton Company.

Here is a old metal fishing pole. This is a early Telescoping fishing pole. This old metal fishing rod has a Cork Handle. The area where you put a fly reel has a slider piece that you can slide up on the reel foot. The metal or steel fishing rod is about 2 feet 3 inches long CLOSED. When you extend the old fishing rod. The length is just under 5 feet long. The line guides are made of some type of Red color plastic or glass. This old steel fishing rod is neat and in used condition. The old rod displays good for the cabin decor or fishing room. It's hard to find these old fishing rods with the cork handles. The rod part has no markings and used to be what looks like Black in color but has most of the paint worn. Still a great buy for a old fishing collectable. For sale is a lot of 5 vintage steel fishing rods. 4 of them are telescoping and one is not. The one piece solid rod I cannot find a maker on. All of the rods are in poor or fair used condition. The cork on many of them has been chewed up or worn down. Most have some level of rust and can be a little difficult to move. Ends on a few of these are also bent. Well worn, but some could still be used or they would be perfect for rustic decorating! Here are some additional details on each rod: One piece rod I am not sure of maker this one is probably in the best shape too. 5' 4" Luckie rod the end piece does not stay in and will pull all the way out. 8' Union Hardware pistol grip end piece also pulls out on this one. 7' 11" Bristol green handle end bent.
