The original cloth case is showing it's age with a 17" split and one area with some small holes(not pictured)The tag is still very legible with the Bristol name and instructions for care on the reverse side of the tag. The rod weighs in at 9 ozs. I just have never personally seen a vintage Bristol rod in better condition and this would be worthy of any collection.The man who originally purchased this was born in 1912 and the elderly niece I purchased this from believes her uncle acquired this in the 1930's. The rod is not bent or ding. It is a metal of some type. The handle is cork and is in fairly good condition with only a small area of slight damage. See the pictures. It measure 43 3/8" long closed and about 84" when extended out. It might go longer I do know. I did not force it. The handle is marked Bristol. I am selling alot of different items from my families' estate. I am trying to describe and explain everything the best I can. Some of the items I do not know much or anything about. This is a vintage"Bristol#3 telescoping fishing rod. This rod is made of steel with 4 telescoping 6 sided hexagonal sections, the eyes and furls look to be nickle plated and brass, the handle is made of cork, the rear reel mounting ring is cracked, all rod sections are strait, no bends, all of the sections extend and collapse smoothly, the finish has some chips on the handle but the rod sections are in very nice condition, the cork handle is dark from use but is in good condition, total length is 107 inches extended, 41 inches collapsed and the handle is 8 1/2 inches

2 steel telescoping fishing poles aluminum tube Sport King Bristol Champion
An old Sport King telescoping steel fly rod and an old BRISTOL telescoping steel fishing pole with an old Aluminum and brass tube which they will be shipped in. Pictures 3 thru 7 are te Bristol and 8 thru 12 are the Sport King. The Sport King extends from 3' 5" to 7' 11" The Bristol extends from 3' 4" inches to 9 feet long. The middle two eyes of the Bristol were apparently welded or soldered back on by someone at some time. The aluminum tube says Champion MFD by CAL-AIR Products Los Angeles CA. I have no idea what it was originally used for but it looks like a fishing pole tube and they both fit in it. It is 2 inches in diameter and 45 inches long. The cap screws into a brass threaded fitting and has an O-ring on it. Nice lot of two copper vintage Bristol telescoping poles. One is about and inch longer then the other but they are the same besides that. They are about 38 inches long and extend to a little over 8 feet. I cleaned a spot on one with copper leaner to show how nice they clean up as seen in pic#4. They both fully extend but one is hard to extend and needs cleaning and maybe oiling to make it extend smoothly. The cork handles are nice and sound. Please see pictures for details. Up to a fly rod length of 7'9" The butt section is painted brown and the two telescoping sections are copper plated steel. The handle section is detachable and can be reversed for either a casting or fly rod configuration. The shaft is hexagonal to mimic a bamboo rod. This is stamped only"Bristol" on the reel seat, which is a trademark of the Horton Company.

This is a neat one. A very unique old BRISTOL HORTON 4 Section Teleascoping Rod from the Horton MFG Co. in Bristol. Conn. The line guides& rod tip are quite different& neat. The Line Guides are all double guides connected like a tee-pee(look closely at pic 4& 6) After the rod is extended the sleeve holding the line guide slids over the rod shaft connection to lock the joints closed. Quite cleaver& well made. The Rod Grip is nice& clean with bright shiny chrome. Closed the Rod Shaft is 30" Extended the shaft is 96" plus the Grip Handle is another 12" Nice company engraving on the reel seat. This is an early steel and copper collapsible fishing rod by Bristol. The four section rod is 92 inches(8 ft. 7 in) long when fully extended. Closed, it is 39 inches long. The metal rod is hexagonal. The bottom(fattest) section appears to be steel painted burgundy. The other three sections are made of copper. The rod has four chrome eyelets in excellent condition. The handle grip is cork. There are some scratches and wear, just what would be expected in a rod this old. This packable rod is in good working condition.

The cork on many of them has been chewed up or worn down. Most have some level of rust and can be a little difficult to move. Ends on a few of these are also bent. Bristol Telescoping Fly Rod - Metal Green and Brown
This is a vintage Bristol metal fly fishing rod. I don't know anything about fly rods but I would say that this is a show piece not a user. If you pull too far the first section will come out. The other section seems to stop where it should. The first and largest eye has been squeezed but it looks like it would still function. The secone to last eye slides up the rod section- but it looks like that is the way it is supposed to work- See photographs for detail. Vintage Bristol, Telescoping Metal Fly Rod , 10 Feet, Strange Tip
I have listed a vintage Bristol Telescoping Metal Fly Rod which measures 10 feet when extended. Straight, no bends and. The cork is in fair condition considering the age, 4 3/4" long cork with signs of wear. The hexagon steel rod has some minor rust spots and consists of 4 sections(nothing major) All four stainless steel eyes are in very good condition( no bends, dents or detachments) The main butt section of the rod has a factory green paint. The extended portions of the rod have a copper colored cast to them. The company logo Bristol is where the reel attaches and the tip looks like an S.
