Vintage South Bend #359-9 BAMBOO 4 Piece FLY FISHING ROD Pole For Repair/Restore
Vintage South Bend Bamboo Fly fishing rod. Model#359-9' Comes in four sections. With two rod tips. This rod has been well used, and is in need of some repair/restoration. Line guide on the main section by the tip is missing and the guide wrapping there is frayed. Next section has a loose guide and the next guide is not on at all. I do have the missing guide eyelet for this section. The two tips have all the guides and appear to be intact. I do not see any obvious cracks or breaks in any of the sections, the repairs needed are more cosmetic/functional. The cloth case appears to be in fairly good condition with slots for all four sections. If you are a collector you would know better how to judge the condition of this fly rod and if it can be restored or repaired to add to your collection or used for trading fodder. Antique Bamboo Fishing pole. 4 piece 12 foot. Very old.
You are bidding on an antique bamboo fishing rod. This rod is approximately 12 foot in length and sectioned in 4 pieces. The section descriptions are very detailed and are as follows: Bottom handle section: Length is 43-1/2" long and has one eye at 39-1/2" from the bottom of the butt. This eye is one of three on the rod and is wrapped in some type of cloth and varnished over. There are two small cracks in the bamboo near the top just below eye. The top connecting section where the next section of the rod inserts is also a non magnetic material believed to be aluminum or brass and is 4" in length. Wrapped in the same type of cloth and is 7/8" 0.78" inches in diameter. The solid wood handle measures 11-1/8" to the bottom of the reel seat. The reel seat appears to be aluminum or brass and is non-magnetic. The metal ... moreseat measures 4-1/4" There are some small drops and streaks of light bluish paint on the handle and lower section of this piece. The second section measures aprox. 43-1/2" and is missing the two eyes that were originally on the rod. You can see where the eyes were once attached. This section has one male and one female end. The lower male connector is 2-3/8" long and the top female connector is just under 3-1/2" long. There are three small cracks in this section. One is at top by the female connector and two are at the bottom just above the male connector. There are also some very small spec's and dots of bluish paint on this section. I hope this guy was was a better fisherman then painter. The third section measures 31-7/8" and is also missing one of the eyes that were on this section. Cloth type paper once held this eye on and is still partially attached. The lower male connector is 2.0" long and the top female connector is 3-1/8" long. There are no cracks or paint in this section. The last top section measures 32-1/4" There are two of the original 3 eyes on this section. The lower male inset measures 1-3/4" and the the top e

Ive never seen a 4 piece presidential. it may have been made from a 2 piece rod. if so someone did a really nice job on it. My Grandpas Dad got this for his Birthday in 1905. Then was given to Grandpa in the 20s, It still has the holder and I am including a 1948 Reel to go with it. It is a 4 piece rod, has 2 tops with tips, 3 parts together measure 9' in length it is a fly pole and Reel. It is Marked UTK on reel base, see story below. It is in pretty good shape does shows wear from use and age. still works great. Reel is a 1948 Perrine MFG Co. Free Stripping Reel with patent numbers and maker info. has weighted floating string. In good condition. The pole has the UTK stamp of 1905 see story below. Happy bidding. This is a nice piece of fishing history. The holder is hand carved wood covered by cloth there are a couple tears in cloth.Horrocks-Ibbotson was one of America's largest production rod companies for many years, competing head to head with Montague ... moreand South Bend. This company that came to be known as the World's Largest Manufacturer of Fishing Tackle traces its history to 1812 but did not become involved with fishing tackle until 1863 when an English immigrant named James Horrocks was hired as a clerk. In 1894, Edward Ibbotson was hired as an errand boy. Gradually the company acquired existing tackle companies. In late 1905 the company built a new factory in Utica, New York and continued to grow until it was known throughout the world. The firm was incorporated in 1909 as the Horrocks-Ibbotson Co. Decals are useful for dating Horrocks-Ibbotson rods. The diamond with the UTK logo dates from 1905 until World War I. This logo is stamped into the reel seat until 1906, but also appears as a decal after 1905. The Trout logo decal was then used until 1929.

This is a Vintage Montague Rapidan 3-piece Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod. It comes with 2 different tips. Making this an adjustable four-piece set. The differences between the two tips include: Slightly different lengths. One tip is a full inch longer. Slightly different tiptops. The tiptop of the slightly shorter tip has a guide with a red eyelet) Slightly different widths. The longer tip is also slightly thinner: the bamboo just below the tiptop measures 2mm and 4mm just above the male ferrule. While the bamboo of the shorter tip measures 2mm just below the tiptop and 5mm just above the male ferrule. Despite the differences between the tips. They are clearly made of the same materials(the same bamboo, windings, and ferrules) With the longer tip in place, the pole measures 9' from butt cap to tiptop.
