VINTAGE HEDDON DELUXE #60 FLY FISHING ROD

Offered only between 1939 and 1943, was Heddon's highest grade rod until the 1939 introduction of the Heddon#1000 Rod of Rods. The Heddon 60 was made using the exact same specifications as the Heddon 50, with the noted exception of the walnut grip. Its hallmark feature is the hand checkered half-wells grip made from solid circassian walnut. The checkering, similar to that found on fine shotgun stocks, was done by the Remington Arms Company. The cane used for this rod has a beautiful browntone shade. Gold stripper(the gold has worn off in most spots) bronze snakes& tip-tops. Bright ferrules are tight and smooth working. Here we have a 9 Ft. 3 piece. Two tip Heddon Deluxe President Model#50 in a 2 1/2 ferrule format. It has been restored and comes with the original bag and tube.both in very nice condition. As most will know bidding on this rod, Heddons standards for the President were VERY stringent and only 1/2 of 1% of all the bamboo used for Heddon rods qualified for use on a Model#50. Simply put, these were some of the finest productions rods EVER made and In my opinion rate right up there with the best of the Edwards and F.E. Thomas production rods as I have owned dozens in all models. These rods didn't take a backseat to anyone's rods. This rod is from the Post Classic Era between 1949-1956.the final years of Heddon's bamboo production. It is restored in the original gold(now called Golden Tan) and forest green trim or tipping. It is a beautiful ... morecolor scheme and one of my favorites.The fine downlocking Circassion reel seat is in great condition. Hook keeper. The cork is in great shape with no fills and has and very little ridging. Plated chrome stripper as it should be. The ferrules are recoated and brilliant. They all pop nicely when fitted and removed. The 2 1/2 ferrule and script in Cleo Hanleys writing designation lists this as a trout/ bass rod, but I would like to add that it is a steelhead fisherman's dream rod. We have some of finest steelhead fishing in the US right here on Steelhead Alley in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania and I have used my own personal Heddon President in this format for many years. It has backbone to fight the fish and land it without killing it.yet has tips that protect light tippets as we need in our waters. Up for auction today is a Heddon#345 Deluxe Pal. The number on marked on the rod is S1051-L(handwritten) but the marking on the case flap looks like Heddon Deluxe 345- 4-1/2" Pal(hard to read) It is 4-1/2" in length. Comes with original case and tube holder. There are patent numbers on the metal part of handle. It's in good condition with some wear to the cork handle but rod itself looks great. There is a screw-locking"Hold-Tite" reel seat with a rose wood foregrip. I believe this is from the 1940's due to my research on the numbers. 3 Handyman Specials Bamboo Bait Casting Rods ~ Granger Deluxe ~ Heddon ~ Folsom
This Week I'll be putting on several vintage fishing related auctions. All listed for 9.99 or less with no reserves so please take a look at my other auctions. Here are three vintage bamboo bait casting rods in fair to good condition. They all would need some sort of work. Top Rod: This rod is marked on the bamboo Folsom#1213- 5' This rod was originally made by Heddon. The rod is full length and almost measures 5' but it is missing it's tiptop guide which would have made it exactly 5' The three guides on the tip have agate inserts and are in good shape. Both sections are reasonable straight. The cork does have a little bit of damage at the end of the butt section. The female ferrule also would need to be re- glued because the original glue has dried out and the threads on the female ferrule are gone. Middle Rod: This rod ... moreis also a Heddon and is marked Heddon's Dowagiac with the 1908 patented reel seat. It is also a 5' rod and is full length. There is one guide missing on the tip and the tip also has a fishing set. There is a repair wrap approximately 1 1/4" long about 5" from the tiptop guide. The cork is in good condition however there are some small worm holes that I have tried to photograph. Bottom Rod: The bottom rod is in the worst condition of the three. It is marked Granger Deluxe on the stationary reel band. It was originally a 6' rod but it appears that the tip has been shortened by about 2 1/2" The tiptop also appears to be a replacement. The three other guides are present however the uppermost tip guide became loose after I photographed the rod and I had to reattach it with temporary scotch tape. Both sections have significant fishing sets. The cork is in good condition and the tip of the rod has started to delaminate from the tiptop guide almost all the way down to the first tip guide. See last photo. The reel seat is wooden and has marks and scuffs and looks like it was shaped out a bit to accept a reel at some point. The spiral locking feature doesn'

Heddon Pal Spook casting rod fiberglass vintage w/ leather case 5 ft Deluxe T270
Here is a great vintage Heddon Spook Pal fiberglass pole. It is fiberglass but made to look like bamboo. The handle has intricate details in the wood and comes with the original fitted leather case and original paperwork. has the front tip and back eye attached but the two middle eyes are off. I do have them but I did not try to re-attach them. Very collectible casting rod that would compliment any antique Heddon casting reel very nicely.

Vintage Heddon Deluxe Peerless Bamboo Rod #35 –8 ½’ 2 f in Original Sleeve & Tu
This is a 3 piece with extra tip Heddon Split Bamboo Rod marked. 35– 8 ½‘ 2 f” and looks like, H D H or E” but not sure on that. The other side is marked, Heddon Deluxe Peerless” The cork and handle are clean. The one little eye next to the cork is corroded but still hanging on. The black end on the handle piece is scratched up. I didn’t put the pieces together because it appears to be a very tight fit and I didn’t want to damage anything, not sure if the light green ends are some kind of protectant that needs to be cleaned off before assembling or it is suppose to be that way. It comes in a clean brown sleeve, but the tag has been ripped off, I found the loose part down inside the sleeve. It has hand written in blue ink, No. 35” Fer. 2” Lgt. 8 ½’ WEIGHT“4 ½ oz” Final Inspection“Ja” or“Jo” not sure. The copper colored metal ... moretube is scratched up, has some tape residue, and chipped off paint, along with someone who wrote, Bamboo” at one end. Which has its original hard tube casing and side rod base storage pocket. this rod appears to have been used very little if any. and is in excellent condition. The handle measures approx. 10 1/2" long. Has a cork base and a wooden top which the rod fits into.The rod has a metal male fitting which fits into the wood handle. the rod has 3 eyelets, and tip, and says Heddon Pal, and the model#3151-5 on it. Very Rare Near Mint Heddon #50 7'6" 4wt Deluxe Featherweight Bamboo Fly Rod
Here is a rod you do not see very often. Arguably Heddon's finest taper in its 2nd highest grade. Essentially never seen on the secondary market and never in this condition. I sold a rare Heddon 8' 1000 Deluxe Featherweight recently and this rod is just as nice and in an even more desirable taper. This is a near mint all orignal 7'6" Heddon 50 Deluxe Featherweight rod. Bag and tube are all orignal with nearly all of the tube label remaining and a slight dent on the tube cap. When I bought the rod it was unfished. But I had to take it out on the Roaring Fork near my home. I fished it with a 4DT Cortland Peach and it was a gem. An unbelievable 4wt that fished as good as its reputation. Everything about this rod is top notch. I'll let the pictures do the talking for this one.

Vintage Heddon Pal Deluxe Fibergalss Fly Rod #70 8' Trout D-HDH 6wt - Mint
Near perfect 1950's vintage Heddon Pal#70 8' Trout action. D-HDH(6wt) Fiberglass fly rod with original tube and green Heddon sock. As you can see from the pictures, it shines like new and begs to be fished. The marble reel seat is one of neatest of the Heddons of that era. The cork grip is in excellent condition. The windings, hook keeper and snake guides are intact and also in great condition. The ferrules as well. The only minor issues I can see are the missing top cap on the tube, and a small chip in the label where the Pal script should be. The brown aluminum Heddon tub is one of nicest ones from the 1950's I've see, with a few scratches and one tiny dent near the bottom end. This rod casts like a dream. Tossing big loops with a wf6wt line, when I lawn cast it. Obviously this is a keeper and should be fished. I'm thinning ... moreout my collection and it is definitely been well cared for. Made in Heddon’s“Handmade Rod Department” where all rods(Model 20 and up) were crafted by a single rod maker. This rare#50 President is in very good+ condition. The rod is clearly marked on the shaft: Heddon Deluxe President. 50- 8 1/2' 2F- HDH or E" The ferrules are rock solid and the sections seat/ unseat together nicely. Only some very slight marks on the deep black enamel. All sections are straight. The rod has gold thread tipped dark green. 1949 HEDDON #W-3151 "Deluxe Pal" 5-1/2' 1-Pc. Steel Casting Rod With Detachable
It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Nice and somewhat Scarce 1949 HEDDON No.W-3151"DELUXE PAL" 5-1/2 FT. ONE-PIECE(LIGHT ACTION) STEEL CASTING ROD, IN THE TOUGH"IRIDESCENT PEARL" FINISH, WITH DETACHABLE HANDLE AND HEDDON LEATHERETTE CASE& TUBE. The standard No.3151 steel casting rod, with the regular"faux bamboo" finish, was introduced by James Heddon's Sons in 1933 and would go on to sell through the 1954 season. The No.W-3151, with the much scarcer"iridescent pearl" finish, didn't appear in catalogs until 1941. This particular example was built in April of 1949, as evidenced by the"4-9" post-war date code written on the rod shaft. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has also written"W3151- 5-1/2' L" The"L" stands for"light" action. Heddon Pal" ... moreis stamped in ink on the opposite side. Because it still carries a partial rod shaft decal. We know that sometime in April, 1949 someone walked into Kucher's Tackle in Philadelphia and bought this rod(which I think is pretty cool to know) The reel seat carries the three 1933 patents assigned to Heddon for the offset handle. The opposite side of the seat is embossed"HEDDON PAL" Comes equipped with detachable handle, blackened Carboloy guides& tip top, solid bronze ferrule, adjustable metal reel seat with trigger, solid hand-checkered Circassian walnut foregrip/chuck(like one would find on a nice gun stock) solid cork tournament grip, trademark red butt cap and wound in black silk tipped in yellow gold. I've added a photo of the original listing from Heddon's 1949 catalog. Rod is in sold Fine condition, showing light to moderate wear. Tip section remains the correct length and arrow-straight. Finish and rod shaft markings are nice overall. Original wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip top, ferrule and butt cap are in good condition. 1930's HEDDON #2500 DeLuxe President Expert Bamboo Rod w/Tube NICE LOOK
1930's Heddon& Sons 2 piece Casting Rod. Comes with extra tip and cloth and tube. I picked this up at an Estate sale and before I could get my mitts on it another person had it in his hands and without any respect for this rod ripped it out of the case and pulled it from the cloth rod protector and tore the first eyelet right off the rod in front of my eyes! I about lost it. The Guide is here and other than a needing a re-wrap is fine. I will leave this task to the new owner) He set the rod down after a few words from me( can't repeat here) So I bought the rod. It is a wonderful rod. The finish is about perfect with just a few normal soft spots. It has not been recoated or touched up. The bamboo is great and the tips are perfect. all other wraps are good and tight. Up for bids is a mint Heddon'Deluxe' 6 1/2' L two-piece spinning rod. It is all original- length and hardware. All guides and wraps are perfect. The rod shows no sign of wear. A nice rod for Heddon collectors. The'L' indicates a light action rod. Have included a nice vintage Peerless aluminum tube and new sock for protection. A rod of this caliber deserves it.
