Up for bids is a beautifully restored vintage 8' 3/1 split bamboo fly rod. Really a nice rod. No maker ID. Minus extra tip but all three sections straight and proper length at 32 1/2" right at 8' assembled. Comes in a nice sock and vintage aluminum tube from the era- ornate cap and butt. The natural frequency vibration test puts it right at a#6 weight rod( Constructing Cane Rods by Ray Gould. Pg. 63) Cannot find a flaw with this rod. It has 85 ferrule, guide and intermediate wraps- red, black and a couple gold accent wraps on butt. Nice hook keeper. Reel seat nice vintage nickel silver. This two piece antique saltwater boat rod is a spectacular wall hanger. Kingfisher" was a trademark of the Edw. K. Tryon Company of Philadelphia. The reelseat. Butt cap, ferrule and stirrup style tip-top are burnished brass. The ferrule is the old style spike type. The grips is varnished wrapped cord. Whe wraps are brown and yellow, the intermediates yellow. The guides are trumpet style, probably nickel silver. The finish appears to be polyurethane. VTG 9' 6" 3/2 SALMON CASTING BAMBOO FLY ROD RESTORED 20s NICE!
Up for bids is a very nicely refinished 9' 6" 3/2 BAMBOO SALMON/CASTING ROD. This type of rod was quite prevalent in the early bamboo rod era from 1890- 1920 as illustrated and discussed in Rod Crafting by Jeffrey L. Hutton. Given the guides this one has. It is most likely from 1910-1920. Earlier rods had handmade ring. Trumpet or bell guides. This one carries the snake and agate lined guides so most likely leaning more toward being built nearer 1920. None the less a very nice classic vintage rod. The longer ferrules were also used during this time- and with visible pins. There are no markings to be found. I am not that knowledgeable on the intricacies of the old hardware- only what I can get from Hutton's book. The mid-section does have mild set. Others pretty darn straight. One tip is probably original and the other looks vintage ... morebut newer. The rod sections all equal measure@ 39" I did observe a couple of small run marks from the varnish on the butt section upon close inspection. Please view pics carefully and bid accordingly. I would guess the rod to be an#8- 9 weight rod. Have included a new 9' sock for protection. Also found a vintage aluminum tube to protect such a fine rod. I had to steel a cap from a shorter Peerless tube and it was very tight going on. Threads did not quite match but it is very tight and can stay that way! The other end has the proper threaded cap and it can be removed easily to access rod in the tube. Buyer can adjust to this. This would be a dandy rod for steelhead. Salmon, stripers or other medium sized salt or freshwater game fish. This style rod was also used frequently for trolling according to Hutton's book. Vintage Bamboo Fly Rod Unknown Maker Recently Restored 3pc 9' 2-3wt
This is a beautiful old rod. Unknown original maker. This rod has the look and feel of a high end piece of it's time. This rod was stripped, cleaned, rewrapped with new light wire snake guides and a vintage Agate stripper. The cane has some set.no attempt was made to change it's character. The original pinned ferrules were removed, cleaned and reinstalled with epoxy but NOT re-pinned. The reel seat was cleaned and recoated, the cork was cleaned and the metal parts were polished. This is a great old rod that has been given new life. It is 3 pieces and 9' long and weighs in at only 4.3 oz. It should cast 2-3wt line. Restored rare Horrocks-Ibbotson 7'8" Featherlight Bamboo Fly Rod
This is a restored 3/1 rare Featherlight rod by H& I. The ferrules. Reel seat, and winding check are as bright and shiny as the day it was sold. It also has the original red agate line stripper and tip-top. The wrappings are as close to the original as I could find. The ferrules part with a soft pop. It is an ultra light rod that weighs under 4 oz on my spring loaded food scale. There is a slight set to the mid section and an even slighter set to the tip. It comes with the original holder and sack which is worn, stained and absent the label. A writer on the Classic Fly Rod Forum was of the opinion that the Featherlight was one of higher quality H& I fly rods and"very rare.

Made by Horrocks-Ibbotson of Utica, NY. This is a 7 1/2' 3 piece rod with one tip section. All sections are original full length. Note the very fine 100% intact and original double diamond banner decal. The rod has been professionally re-wrapped to match the original purple and gold wrap colors. With the thick tipping, and a closely matching replacement female ferrule has been installed on the mid section. The tip top guide is a replacement. Please enlarge the photos. Comes with a cloth covered wood form which has a slot for an extra tip section so I presume the rod originally came with a second tip. Also comes with a canvas bag that fits over the wood form. The ... morerod has a moderate downward fishing set. Probably dates to the 1930's but it is not a noodle. Weighing in at 4.4 ounces with a strong medium action. Both ferrules are very tight(the butt/mid only seats about 2/3 of the way) and pop when disjointed. You might wait a long time to see another one of these! Thank you for looking! For Sale: Used Ed Beck restored bamboo fly rod. 8ft. 6" 6 weight 3-piece with extra tip section. This original bamboo blank has been completely restored by Ed Beck Custom Rods. New wraps and hardware. This rod is meant to be fished and not as a wall hanger. Cork handle is clean not pitted. Comes with nice vintage cotton rod sock. No rod tube included. ZYZ reel is used but in very good condition. Diameter 3" Height 3 5/8" Width 1 1/2" Weight with fly line and backing 7.5 oz. Reel comes with Orvis WF6F fly line with backing. This handmade reel is a perfect match with this bamboo rod. The reel has the additional weight to balance the rod for easy casting.

Payne Model 100 Bamboo Fly Rod 2 piece 1 tip in Excellent Restored Condition
Jim Payne Model 100 in excellent restored condition. According to my scale. This 7' 6" rod is 3 1/4 oz. The rod is 2-piece/1-tip and both pieces are the same length. The butt cap is stamped"PAYNE REG US PAT OFF" on one side and"SOLD BY ABERCROMBIE& FITCH CO NEW YORK" on the other side. The rod has the classic sliding band reel seat with walnut spacer. The rod comes with a bullet shaped plug for the female ferrule of the butt section. I believe the tube is original, but the sock is not. The tube has an E. F. Payne Rod Co, Inc. label. Given the markings on the butt cap, my best guess is that this rod was made after 1951. The rod was purchased by my father in the late 1970's and was in need of restoration, so it was probably made soon after 1951. The rod was expertly refinished 35 years ago using original ... morePayne silk, and it remains in excellent condition. The restorer added some extra wraps on the butt section to make it clear the rod had been refinished. I fished with this rod once, just to see what it felt like to fish with a Payne rod. The rod is delicate and handles a 4 wt line very nicely. This rod is a true classic and will make a great addition to any collection.

This is a beautiful fully restored 8' vintage bamboo fly rod with two tips. all sections are the same length. Maroon windings tipped in red with 4 snake guides on each tip. This would be a great small stream rod. There is no markings as to maker. Tips are straight with no sets. Weight is 4 1/2 oz. Nice cork ring grip. There is no damage. Plastic tube is home made. Rod was restored by the Norwich Fly Rod Co. of Huntington. Ma.

Up for sale is a Montague Bamboo Fly Rod. 8.5 ft total length. 3sections with 2 tips. The rod was restored and is in great condition as you can see from the pictures. It has a new finish, the line guides and wrappings were redone. Ferrules are in good shape. Casts a DT6F line very well. Also casts a WF5F line very well. Reel seat is in good shape. Comes with a PVC tube and rod sock as seen in the pictures.

VINTAGE 9' 3/2 TONKIN BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH DOWEL HOLDER RARE RESTORED BEAUTIFULLY
Up for bids is a vintage 9' 3/2 Tonkin split bamboo fly rod in original felt-lined dowel holder- in excellent condition. Rod has been beautifully restored. All sections straight. Original lengths and hardware. Butt and mid at 36 3/4" tips at 36 5/8. Appears to be from 1900-1925 and is almost identical to the last of the rods built by the Chubb/Montague label( Rod Crafting. Pg 158) The rod is unmarked but the reel seat is the Classic Chubb patented in 1880. The ferrules are pinned, guides tight with new wraps, and beautiful alternating red& black intermediate wraps. The tips are also the Chubb style angled single ring tiptops. A very rare rod and tough to find all original& in such beautiful shape. I guess it to be a 5-6 weight rod. Thinning down a little so will be listing other nice vintage bamboo& glass rods in addition ... moreto reels too. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
