The fine item you are considering is an Antique Vintage Sylvania Vacuum Tube Tester Weston Model 678. I have lots of photos below. So be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this page to take a better look. This neat vintage tube tester has a great plaque on the front which reads“Sylvania Tester“ and there‘s also a sheet of old paper tacked on the back which would seem to indicate that it‘s a Weston Model 678. The tester, which measures approximately 17” by 15 ½” looks to me to date to the 1920’s or 1930’s, with a large center meter and an all wood case. The tester is in pretty remarkable, very well cared for, overall condition, but it does have a few issues, these being that one corner of the plastic front tube panel is chipped off(see photos) and the power plug is very old and a bit smashed. Any ... moreelectronics for that matter. I purchased it in a lot at auction. I can tell you I plugged it in. The lights came on under the chart(picture 2) and the needle went to center. Well, almost center, in the yellow anyway, as shown in picture 9. The chart is a little off kilter. And when you roll it, it's not always even and dips and rises as you're turning it, and seems loose inside. Maybe there's an adjustment underneath to take up the slack? There is a cut/ splitting in the casing of the red wire in more than one spot. So that will need to be changed. There is a pretty good patina build up on some spots. It surely needs a good cleaning. There is also some cracking at the top of the clear"window" covering the needle as shown in picture 9. Nothing horrible. The case is pretty crappy. The covering is peeling all over and one corner is coming apart or has come apart and barely hanging together. Also. It's clearly been stored in a basement, so has that musty basement smell. It comes with the manual which is hallway decent shape. Certainly useable, and a"Tube Test Data" booklet for Heath Model TC-1& TC-2 for use with roll chart 1-1-66, which this

I tried several different tubes I had on hand– some testing good and some not– and this Mercury 1100 Tube tester matched my main unit tube for tube. This Accurate Instrument tube tester was made around 1970. It has a row of pin straighteners across the top and can test 14 different tube types. It is also capable of testing TV tubes. It is in very good overall condition and does work. It doesn't have the manual so I placed a tube in a socket and just set all the knobs at a low setting. Pressing the quality button gets the needle to move. I believe manuals are available on CD for this set. An original or reprint should also be easy to find. It's a very slim and compact tester. There are many stories out there, some apocryphal, I'm sure, about these testers surviving floods, mud-slides, extreme rust, extreme heat, you name it, then being plugged in- only to find out they still ... moreworked. Oh, make no mistake, they do and did break down- but it usually took a lot of use and/or abuse to cause that. This tester has some very nice features. Including a test for(relative) remaining tube-life, the ability to test dual-triodes without changing settings, the ability to set exactly accurate plate-voltage that the tube was designed for, the ability to measure the tube's reading in micromhos, test and measures shorts and leakage in the tubes, and much more. One thing it will not do: it will NOT cook your dinner for you(you need a significant other for that) well, maybe it would cook your dinner ONCE- but then, you'd need a new tester.Seriously, though, this really is considered a professional unit. This unit was sent to the well-known Roger Kennedy of All Tube Testers dot com. Who inspected, cleaned and calibrated it in May of 2014. It is in relatively decent condition cosmetically for an instrument which is more than 50 years old. Rare and Vintage B&K Dynamic Mutual Conductance Tube Tester. Model 707 Dyna Jet. Made in the USA. Machine powers on. All lights and knobs seem to function as they should. Tested with tube and lit tube up to test. Not sure of the specific functions to fully test but sensitivity knob was moving the needle when adjusting with proper tube inserted. Machine will need some cleaning and calibration. Outside of the case will need to be re-wrapped or have the wood stained. Comes with tube chart manual(wear) and accessory. Case measures 16" x 16" x 6" Weight is approximately 15 lbs. Nice condition inside with some scuffs. Outer case has wear. Locks are working, need polishing. No damage noted. This is for a vintage Readrite model 431 vacuum tube tester. This tester comes with 4 Supplementary chart papers. The box measures 8.5" x 8" x 7" The box is solid oak. The leather handle has come apart. I plugged it in and the lights came on right away. I have no idea how this works so this ia how you buy it. This came from a local estate and here to sell. Vintage Heath Co. Heathkit Vacuum Tube Tester Checker Model TC-2 With Manual This is a nice vintage Heathkit TC-2 tube tester. It has only been tested to power up. It does power up with no issues. The light behind the tube list comes on and the needle on the meter goes to the yellow area when powered up. No further testing has been done. Overall this does have wear but looks good for its age. Outside case is original and has general surface wear. Corners are beat up and one is especially torn. Looks like someone added tape all the way around or it was put there by the company(looks decorative) Overall size is 14 1/2" x 12" x 6 1/2" The lid inside has a place where it is gaping but still sealed from outside. see last pic) A bit musty smelling.No burning smell hisses or noise.
