Available for sale are three WWII Signal Corps tube testers. Two are model I-177. And the third one(painted red) is a I-177-B. These items came from the estate of a longtime radio technician. Who is in the process of reducing some of his inventory in anticipation of relocating to a small building. All three of these units are in decent cosmetic condition. All are untested, and I have not even attempted to power them on. This is a great lot for a technician who can spend a little time on each unit and give them a decent calibration service. Not Working I-177 1945 Military Tube Tester. Turned it on and no meter reading for any tube I try to test. I just do not have the time to mess with it right now so I am selling it as-is. The fuse lamp glows dimly when the line adjust it turned up. Please look at all my photographs for the condition. Mounting screws from chassis to case were missing. Received it from an old time radio guy but that's about all I know about it. Chassis looks to be all original except the line cord may have been replaced some time ago. This Tube Tester is very good looking with only minor wear. This was made in the 1945-46 era. The design was made by Hickock, it was licensed and assembled by Supreme Corporation in Greenwood Miss. The manual appears completed without any significant torn or worn pages. Since in it partially working it might be any easy fix. I just don't have time. My loss is your gain. Signal Corps I-177-B Mutual Conductance Tester W/NOS HS-16A Headset!
For sale is a used Signal Corps I-177-B Dynamic Mutual Conductance tester"and" a NOS/NIB HS-16A headset. This tester is in good working condition overall. I acquired it recently with little history so performed the following procedures: Put it on a variac and started at 40 volts to 120 volts over a two day period. Replaced the fuse bulb with an NOS bulb(after I broke the original working bulb) Tested a sample of tubes including rectifier and power in 80% of the sockets and compared results to my calibrated(by Dan Nelson) TV-7D/U tester. Performed a light surface cleaning In general I would say the tubes tested on the I-177-B came out a little lower(5%15% than my TV-7. However I have 3 calibrated TV-7's and this one is the higher testing of the three. In other words, the I-177-B wasn't very far off the mark. The tester does ... moreshow signs of light oxidation and a few paint chips, but the sockets were tight and made good contact. The original documentation is very weathered but usable. The power cord is very pliable and should not need to be replaced. The metal case is decent with no major damage/dents. Serial Number is#6693. The headset as you may know was originally intended to test for noise on these testers as well as TV-7's and Hickok 539's. I have never performed this type of test but might give it a try. Your headset will come in an original unopened paper foil package. The one you see pictured is one my others so you can get the idea. Please note this an"as is" auction and you understand the issues with vintage electronics. This unit and headset will be packed with great care. IF USED HARDLY AT ALL, AS HE SAID HE NEVER USED IT. BEEN SITTING AROUND IN THE BASEMENT SINCE HE BOUGHT IT MANY MANY YEARS AGO. IT IS IN EXCELLENT WORKING CONDITION. I-177-B Tube Tester by Daven looks GREAT under the lid! Appears to be all original and used very little. When I plugged it in it did not power up. All the panel screws are in place and not buggered up. I'm thinking the toggle power switch may be stuck internally and some contact cleaner may free it up- I'll report back. Also one knob is missing on the micro-mhos switch. The cover could be straightened but it closes easily and the latches work as-is. But the rubber of the cables has been dry rotted with time. The power cable looks to be in the worst shape. It has not been tested, so I do not know if it functions, sold as is. Manuals are in crisp. For sale is this tube tester. I plug this in and put a tube in. I set it to all the right settings and the gage moved. It seems to work but I don't know a lot about this, so I'm selling it as is. Some of the green paint is coming off, it has some rust on the outside of the case. There's a couple dates on the Army Technical bulletin. The bulletin says Departments of the Army and the Air Force 16 October 1952, it also say this bulletin supersedes TB 11-2627-2, 11 June 1951, including C 1,31 January 1952. Power cord has been replaced. The type 83 rectifier tube has been replaced with a solid state 83 and 5Y3 tube has been checked for balance. Replaced if needed. Nice Signal Corps. I-177 U.S. Army Tube Tester & MX-949A/U Socket Adapter Kit
Both pieces are in Very nice condition. It line adjusts great and I tested a few tubes and compared closely to my calibrated TV-7. It did not come with a manual so I did not test the MX-949A/U tube socket adapter kit but the Gentleman I purchased them from said they both worked great and the tester does so I would guess the adapter kit does also and the full manual can be purchased here on EBAY for a good price. Both cases are in nice shape with no dents or major scratches and you can tell they were both taken care of very well and they actually look a lot better in person than the pictures show. You're looking at a vtg Military US Army Signal Corps Vacuum Tube Tester I-177. From the late 40's or early 50's. I believe this was made by Triplett. As it looks the same as those I have seen for sale; the identifying metal plate has come off the front. The unit is in good overall cosmetic condition. However I have no way to test it and cannot claim that it works. The test booklet dated June 1951 comes with the unit. Nice find! I do combine shipping. My stated shipping& handling time is 4 days not counting weekends. This does not mean that I always wait that long, but please message me before bidding if you need it faster. It includes the Tube Guide as shown. As well as more documentation as shown. Untested: This tube tester is"as found" Untested. Condition of the panel is very good front and back, lettering, sockets, no issues to note. It came from an elder's estate, that had many vintage radios and electronics, all was in pretty good condition, nothing molested. I stepped on my VOM and destroyed it, so did not even attempt any inspection. I normally would and tell you how far I got. We offer this as parts or restore, and you might get lucky. The inside is shown in photos and has original"Cosmoline" A Mil-Spec coating that was used frequently during WW2 for shipping metals ... moreoverseas. This coating has kept the components inside the cabinet very clean. see photos of inside) There is some corrosion on the steel cabinet near the seams and edges. Here and there, cabinet is a good candidate for restoration or to clean up, touch up, and keep as original. The cabinet color is the Military Olive Drab Green color. The Model Number is stamped on the face of the panel. 1-177. The fuse is a bulb style fuse. Not sure where you would get one. But is possible that is the only thing this unit requires. Up for auction is this very nice vintage US Army Signal Corps I-177-B Tube Tester Kit that was manufactured by the Triplett Electrical Instrument Company of Bluffton. Ohio! I purchased this tube tester at a recent estate sale and it will ship to you just like I found it. It looks to be in excellent, original condition. The line test dial moved up/down when I plugged it in and powered it on. I do not have the proper test equipment to test this piece so you are buying it as is. It measures approximately 15 1/4" by 8" by 5 1/2" and weighs approximately 19 pounds. This auction is for the TUBE TESTER ONLY. Up for auction is a Military US Army Signal Corps Vacuum Tube Tester. Model#I-177. It comes in used, overall good cosmetic condition. You can see in the pictures it certainly shows wear from over the years. The hinge has a nail in it holding the cover in place. It does close and lock properly. I plugged it in and nothing happened. I don't know if it needs a new fuse or that I just don't what I'm doing. The original fuse bulb is included. Because of this. I am selling it AS-IS, untested. Please note this!
