Clean, and accurate EICO model 628 tube tester with the attractive brushed aluminum ... morepanel from my collection. The EICO 628 was the successor to the very popular model 625. With sockets added to test the newer tubes that were becoming available. In addition to the usual octal, loctal, 7& 9-pin miniature sockets, Eico added 5& 7-pin nuvistor sockets, novar and compactron sockets, plus 7& 9-pin pin straighteners. The 9-pin socket is actually a combination 9& 10-pin miniature socket. The 628 also has a vastly improved roll chart. The old 4. 5, 6& 7-pin sockets are gone to make room for the new ones. But the older tubes can still be tested. In fact, the data is still on the roll chart and in the tube data manual(included) All it takes is a simple adapter you can make for yourself from an old 8-pin tube base and the socket of your choice. The EICO series of test instruments were intended for professional use. And were marketed mostly to radio and TV repairmen through the local electronic parts dealerships, and their construction shows it. The professional looking brushed aluminum panel was designed to inspire confidence in the customer who saw it, and the heavy steel case of this instrument was intended to protect it well. The circuit was licensed from Triplett and is the same as the Triplett 3413. Heath and Knight also licensed the circuit and produced it as the Heathkit models TC-x and IT-xx. Knight testers are known as the KG-600 series. The test data for all of these tube testers is generally interchangeable. As can be seen from the tag on power cord and the"Tested" stamp on the inside of the case, this is a factory wired instrument- perhaps important if you want to be sure it was done correctly. And I'm sure that when it was ... morestashed away so many years ago"dad" was sure he'd need it again. It absolutly needs a new power cord before it could even be tested safely but, after noticing some screws missing on the cover I had to open it up to make sure it wasn't gutted. As you can see in the pictures aside from a coating of dust the interior looks surprisingly good with no evidence that anything but age has deteriorated the cord on the outside of the cover, even the paper roll looks quite good. This is a large heavy object so shipping will be quoted as parcel post. If you live between the mountains like me and won't get hit by the post office for a substantial upcharge for oversize packages or just want it fast I'll offer Priority Mail as an option. View the pictures as this is the item you will recieve and ask any questions you might have prior to bidding. This vintage tube tester is in great cond. It is a Model 700 made by Precision Apparatus Co. Brooklyn NY USA. All knobs and dials and roller work smoothly. I have powered this tester up and it does power up. The needle on the gauge moves. It is not broken or stuck. The wooden box has dovetail corners and is in great cond. Box has a Sylvania decal.Handle hinges and closures are all great. It has a leather handle. The power cord has hardened and the outer coating is cracking off however it does work.This is a really nice tube tester in a really nice box. As with all electrical items I sell I cannot guarantee it works only that it does power up. There is an instructional booklet and it says Operating Instructions for Series 700. Offered for auction is a nice vintage Precision Tube Tester Model number10-12 serial number 8205 made by the Precision Apparatus Company in the U.S.A. The tester comes with two original Precision Books including a Supplementary Tube Data for tubes that are not included on the built in roll chart and and the other is Tube Test Data which mainly mirrors the roll chart but has lots of other information for tubes not on the chart such as Novars and Compactrons and some later tubes. The tester is in excellent working condition and the front operators panel is actually in very nice original condition showing very minimal wear however the wood case does show obvious wear from years of reliable use. I have used this tester personally in the past and it has always been very accurate with readings consistantly in concert with my Hickok 539C. Vintage test equipment in used condition. Has missing/wrong screws on face plate. There is some electrical tape around the power cord where it goes through the plaate. The carrying case shows signs of wear but overall very good condition. The paper reel is intact with no tears and the thumb dial works smoothly. Testing: Unit powers up. The line adjust works. Tested a few known good and bad tubes on the 9-pin socket only. It"passed" the good tubes and"failed" the bad ones so it appears to be somewhat functional. Instrument is not/has not been cailbrated so accuracy is not known. That is the extent of the testing that was done. No manuals. Test leads, socket adapters etc included. For sale here is a HICKOK Model 532 vacuum tube tester. The unit is working as you can see by the first picture im testing a known good 6L6. The unit does seem to be complete though unit will need a good cleaning as most tube testers do. I sprayed the insides down with deoxit to help with connectivity and electrical lubricant to help the switches turn smoothly. As with all tube testers it MUST be assumed that the unit needs a calibration. As you can see it is working powering on(pilot lamp needs replaced) etc. The roll chart is free and moving as well as the switches and knobs including a free moving meter. Up for auction is another piece of vintage electronics from my shack. Very good cosmetic condition and the tester works as it is supposed to. The SECO Model 78 Grid Circuit and Tube Merit tester is a very compact and highly accurate tube tester designed primarily for the television technician. Its test coverage includes the majority of heater type radio tubes as well as filament rectifiers. Three basic tests are available. Each in turn applies the desired data to a special two stage DC amplifier. The amplified signal voltage which is either D.C. or rectified signal voltage is fed to the meter through the proper amplifier input. These three tests are namely: 1. Grid Circuit and shorts test; 2. Merit test; and 3. Filament continuity. The Grid Circuit and selected leakage and shorts test employs the Seco developed and patented"D.C. testing ... moreprocedure" for detecting"hard-to-find" faults such as grid emission, small leakage and shorts. Low test voltages(4.5- 50 VDC) are selected to minimize danger of damage to a good tube. If the tube is free of the above undesired faults, the meter pointer will deflect into the good area on the left of the meter are. The Tube Merit Test is accomplished by feeding a low test voltage of 22 volts through a suitable limiting resistance to the cathode and the plate or grids. This constitutes an emission quality test. The tube under test is always isolated from the actual meter circuit. The circuit employed in the Model 78 makes available an unusually wide choice of test conditions as well as safeguarding against meter damage. A good tube will cause the meter pointer to read in the"good area" on the right of the meter are. Its the only way to truly match tubes in amplifiers. This tester will handle: 4.5,6,7,8 pin large base tubes; 8 pin octals; 7& 9 pin miniatures; 8 pin micros; 8 pin in line tubes. It measures Gm. Shorts and leakage/gas. Working VGC 1959 Model FC-2 Century Fast - Check Tube Tester with Booklets
Up for sale is a Century model FC-2 fast test tube tester made by Mercury in Mineola. NY, USA in 1959. As you can see in the picture, I tested a 5U4 and the meter registered all the way into the green. I also tested several 12AX7s and some 6V6s. All tested as they should. The unit has all the original booklets and I am including a Radioshack tube substitution book that came with the tester. Besides working properly, the outside oak case is near immaculate and still has its little rubber feet on the back side. This is a very clean unit. The tester also has the picture tube tester. Which is the extra cable laying on the metal plate. I did not have a CRT to test, but I assume it works fine. The settings for CRTs are in the back of the tube chart.
