I set the temperature to-10C and the centrifuge began to cool down immediately. After a few minutes the machine reached-10C and maintained temperature. This centrifuge does not include a rotor and for this reason the display returned the proper no rotor error. The door latch. Lock, and opening mechanism are working correctly on this machine. Because I do not have a proper rotor I am unable to test this unit beyond powering on and cooling down. Therefore this centrifuge will be sold as-is. This is a Beckman refrigerated centrifuge pulled from a university lab. It looks to be in good physical condition however it does have display Error 28 when powered up. The manual implies that this is a relatively innocuous error that should clear after cycling power. However. This is not the case here. I am unable to test due to the error. This should be able to be repaired by a Beckman Coulter technician or this can be used for parts. This does have an S4180 4800 RPM swinging bucket rotor. This unit was acquired from a working environment and is in nice condition cosmetically with only a few superficial scratches on the the unit along with some minor rust around the seal of the door(as can be seen in the pictures) and appears to be functioning as it should. However, it's sold as-is, as described. When tested, the unit accelerated and decelerated quite smoothly and was very quiet. It also appears to heat and cool as can be seen from the pictures. This centrifuge is being sold for parts/repair since it appears that the brake isn't functioning properly. When we set the unit up with the desired settings the centrifuge increased to the correct RPM, and the timer began to count down. However we noticed that the rubber around the camber was not making a secure seal on the top lid causing sound from the motor spinning being louder that it usually is. Please note that the timer knob is missing, however it can be manipulated by hand or with pliers. The rotor and buckets expired on 1-06.
