Late 19th century the copper base of rectangular form on four bracket feet. Richly decorated in various coloured enamels within fine gilded thin copper yusén wires with a coiled three-clawed dragon among flames within a green enamel cartouche. Surrounded by folding fans of flowering sprays, chrysanthemum and shippō to the lid. The sides decorated with a chidori among crests. Folding fans of bamboo, wisteria and cherry, a border of formal lappet to each side, fine small gilded copper yusén formal border to each side. The base decorated with a large chrysanthemum among karakusa scrolls. Very nice microscope ferom around 1910. I only have the two lens that you can see in photos.They are marked S.L. Co.X 6 and X12. The only problem I can find there is chip on the glass table. The case is perfect with out any damage. Its either Cherry or Mahogany not sure. The horizontal arm fixed to the lens can be rotated through 360 degrees and to various angles by means of the ball and socket joint. A nice Bausch and Lomb microscope with wooden case. Condition is only fair. As there is a good bit of tarnishing and some pitting on the brass components. The iron parts(small screws) and door lock key do have surface rust on them. Case has a few paint splatters on it. See image 10. There are two(2) eyepieces. Approximately 14" when extended and 12" when retracted. Wood carry case is 6 1/2" x 8" x 14" Box and scope for shipping will weigh approx. 16 lbs. Key works to lock case. The bottom lens of the eyepiece(one that inserts in the top of the microscope) looks good. The top glass lens of the eyepiece has scratches and tiny pits(they do NOT show up in the photo) A guide fiber or hair has been internally attached(about rim to center) and can be seen when viewing. The brass pieces show slight signs of wear due to the trace of time. The company that made this microscope. E. Leitz Wetzlar, was founded in 1849 by Karl Kellner in Wetzlar(Germany) In the beginning it manufactured mainly telescopes and was called Optical Institute of Wetlzar. When the firm started producing microscopes, Kellner hired engineer Ernst Leitz, who soon became a partner. In 1869 Leitz acquired the company and named it Ernst Leitz Optical Institute.
