RARE* Steam Engine Gibbed& Cottered Connecting Rod End A Key Element Of The Industrial Revolution. Here's something you don't see everyday. matter of fact. This is the only one I've seen that was not connected to a steam engine! Up through the end of the mid-late 1800s this was the common method of connecting a rod or shaft to a crank pin, such as a connecting rod to the flywheel or to the crosshead. A gib is a piece of metal or wood whose job is to hold another piece in place. In this example, the 1/2" steel strap is wrapped around the bronze bearing, which in turn surrounds the crank pin on the flywheel; these pieces are secured by notched piece of steel(the gib) which is jammed and held in place by the wedge shaped key or cotter. There are not many pictures in it and mainly it is just parts listings. It refers to a Challenge Thresher which I assume is a model name. This is a really neat vintage set! Menschik-Goldman INC. MG Japan This train is ceramic. Each piece is hand painted and connected with thin metal wire. Each part of the train has a small hole on the top for a birthday candle and little knobs on the bottom to stick into a cake. There are no breaks in the train. It may be freed up with a little elbow grease. I could not find any cracks or breaks on pump housing. Flange is broken. pic) Cast Iron construction. Old Lasure Hit Miss Gas Engine Clutch Pulley Steam Tractor Magneto Oiler NICE!!
This is an extremely nice and very hard to find original clutch pulley for a hit and miss gas engine. It was made by the Lasure Friction Pulley Company in Watertown. Wisconsin and fits on a 2 1/4 inch diameter crankshaft and could be bored to fit a 2 1/2 inch shaft. It could also be bushed to fit anything smaller. It has a 6 1/4 inch face and is 10 1/4 inches in diameter. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs and everything works as it should. It snaps in and out very nicely and is ready to be put to work on an engine. These clutches rarely turn up in the wild or even at swap meets and they surely make it easier to use your engine to run belt driven implements! The pictures tell the story. Old Spiegel Chainsaw Fairbanks Morse Hit Miss Gas Engine Steam Tractor Magneto
This is a very unique and rather hard to find original Spiegel chainsaw. It seems to be in very good condition with no cracks. Breaks, or repairs of any kind. It has a big 20 inch bar on it. It has a Fairbanks Morse recoil which needs some minor attention as it doesn't retract all the way and it also needs the link between the finger throttle hooked back up. The pieces seem to be there to do it. It turns over nicely with super compression and I'm sure it wouldn't take much to make noise with it! I will remove the bar to make it easier to package for shipping. It has some nice original paint on it and would be a fine addition to your early chainsaw collection. Antique Cast Iron Gear, Hit and Miss Engine Steam Punk
Here is an old cast iron spike toothed gear. It measures 15 1/2" in diameter and is 3/4" thick. The teeth are about 1 1/2" in depth. And the center hole is 4" in diameter. Live Steam engine old vintage pressure gauge Ashcroft original condition look!!
Up for bids is an old Ashcroft pressure gauge. The face measures 4" diameter and the mounting plate of the base is a little larger at 4 3/4" Its an older style gauge and not sure what it came off of maybe an old steam engine or something like that. Its totally untested and just a neat old decoration. The outer covering of the gauge pulls off its not threaded on and there is a plate of glass under that and the dial is under that. There is a spring inside that must control the gauge. I just barely moved the needle and it went back to zero again. Nice old piece sold as is where is please. Up for sale is a piece of early Americana. A 1860 United Fireman's Fire Mark Plaque(Repo) R. Kern, Ligonier, Pa. is marked on the back to indicate who made the plaque. Gold initials of U and F along with a steam engine are pictured on the plaque. Made of heavy metal construction(cast-iron? in black shows one of the first steam powered fire engines(in red) ever made is depicted in the 1860 fire mark of the United Firemans Insurance Co. of Philadelphia. It is in relief and in very good condition. Even though this is a reproduction of a very early advertising piece, which would be extremely rare, this piece is a very nice copy and used for decorating. It measures approximately 11" wide and 8 1/2" high and weighs approximately 2 pounds. It has an hole on each side for attaching to a building or wall. New-Way 3 HP ?? Stationary Hit & Miss Gas Engine Gasoline Steam Vintage
This is a somewhat rough New-Way engine that I saved from being scrapped recently. I can find no serial number plate on it anywhere so I am guessing that it is of about 3 to 4 horsepower or so. The flywheels on this engine measure 24" in diameter. It appears that it went through a fire many years ago that melted out the babbit main bearings. The crankshaft appears to be bent a bit because the flywheels are about 2 inches closer together at the top than they are at the bottom. Restoring this engine will be a big task but it can be done. I figure it will be most useful for a parts engine. The flywheels. Base, cylinder, connecting rod cover, magneto mounting base and magneto drive gears appear to be useable. I will add more information soon. Old Bosch DU4IS Antique Tractor Magneto Hit Miss Gas Engine Steam Oiler HOT!!
This is a pretty nice original and very hard to find Bosch DU4IS four cylinder magneto with an impulse starter on it. It was commonly used on some of the crossmotor Case tractors as well as many others. It is in great condition with the exception of the distributor cap with no cracks. Breaks, or repairs of any kid. It is clockwise rotation and turns over very nicely with great magnetic pull. The impulse mechanism works as it should and there is very little wear in the bearings on that end unlike most of these magnetos that you run across. This magneto puts out a healthy blue spark that is sure to run your engine if it is set up and adjusted properly. It mounts on a 2 inch square bolt pattern and the threads in the mounting holes are in great shape. These magnetos are extremely tough to find in the wild or even at swap meets and usually they ... morerequire several hundred dollars worth of repair work. Not this one. This is a rather tough to find original Webster magneto ignitor bracket for a Waterloo hit and miss gas engine. It is bracket number 303K8 and is in near perfect condition with no cracks. Breaks, or repairs of any kind. It has been completely rebuilt and has new mica and points. It also has a new roller. Everything is nice and tight and works as it should. It is ready to be put to work on a engine. It mounts with two 7/16 inch holes 2 1/8 inches apart on center. It would also make a great spare on the shelf. The pictures tell the story. 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false This machine is a Star Improved Steam Engine Indicator. It was first produced by the Star Brass Mfg. Co. in Boston. MA, in 1902. This example is from that early few years in the century, but doesn't have a manufacturing date. There was substantial competition at the time, and several other companies made indicators of varying design. The purpose of a steam engine indicator is to make a recording on paper from which the efficiency and correct operation of the engine can be determined. Based on the drawing. An engineer can adjust valves, linkages, and packing in the engine to make it operate more efficiently. The recording is a P-V diagram, plotting pressure in the steam cylinder with the travel of the piston(thus determining the volume behind the piston) You can find much detail about the process ... moreon the Web. For example, there is a free Google book called The Star Improved Steam Engine Indicator. By Geo. H. Barrus. Published in 1902. There is a good Wikipedia article, and even a site devoted to steam indicators. An interesting connection(at least for me) is that planimeters were routinely used to analyze the P-V diagrams. Measuring the area within the curve to calculate the horsepower of the engine. That said. I’ve had this indicator for a number of years, but I’ve never done anything with it except look at it. The drum and its return spring seem to work properly, and the marking arm operates freely against the spring. Four additional springs(apparently with different properties) are included. What you see in the pictures is what there is. Included is some old(probably useless) string that wraps around the base of the recording calendar(to drive it from the engine's motion) a tool with a hollow shaft, an extra pulley, a small toggle(the loose piece with a black handle) a 4 1/2” wooden rule(marked 40 to the inch) and three printed indicator sheets. I believe this is an original crank guard or fender for a Taylor Vacuum hit and miss gas engine. It is part number T-5 and is in excellent condition with no cracks. Breaks, or repairs of any kind. It is about 4 1/2 inches wide. It mounts with one bolt to the back of the crankcase. It may fit other engines like Nelson Brothers as well so measure your engine or consult a parts book or fellow collector to be sure it's the right one for your engine. This is a fantastic original water cooled cylinder head for a Stover hit and miss engine. It is part number 6K2 and mounts with four holes on a 3 1/4 inch square bolt pattern. This is a fantastic original crankcase breather for an International Harvester Mogul gas engine. It will fit the 1. 1 3/4, and 2 1/2hp engines. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind. It has 1/2 inch pipe threads that are in excellent condition. It has tons of original paint on it and there is more to be found under the old grease. These four bolt Mogul breathers are much tougher to find than the two bolt model that fits on the IHC Type M engines so if you've been looking for one don't miss this one. This is what I believe is a hydrostatic lubricator using steam. It may have been used in a locomotive or a stationary steam engine- there is no documentation other that the part number at the base(see image#2) and the DETROIT LUBRICATOR patent information. This thing is heavy! It was from an 8hp steam turbine connected to a pump. It is 6-3/4" in diameter. W/ a 1-3/4" face and a 1-1/8" diameter center hole. There are 2 sets of 8 coupling holes the larger are 4-1/2" bolt center, and smaller 6-1/4" It appears to be cast or malleable iron and has some surface rust and old paint, but no cracks or chips. This is a Vintage 3 Ball Cast Iron Steam Train Tractor Antique Engine Governor with original pulley wheel. Overall in good. Used condition, there is no damage on the piece that I can see. Wheel and gears turn smoothly. I cannot find any markings on this, but I have not cleaned it and it is in as found condition. MEasures approximately 14 x 10 x 6 inches.
