Maytag 72 Twin Gas Engine, 2 Maytag Champion Plugs, Eisemann Boots Hit & Miss
This is a Maytag two stroke-cycle twin cylinder gasoline engine that originally powered a Maytag wringer washing machine in 1946. The owner probably got rural power soon after that and electrified his wife's washing machine and saved this cute little engine inside somewhere. This fine original engine turns over and has compression but I never tried to make it run. It originally hung from the bottom of the washing machine. Someone made the crude wood enclosure it is still in in order to make it run and possibly use if for some chore on the farm. I bought this engine and muffler for $40 at an antique shop just east of Lewistown Montana back in 1976. I remember driving my 1975 Corvette convertible at that time and had quite a time figuring out how to haul this engine home in that car. I knew I just had to have it because it came with the ... moreoriginal muffler and even had both of the original Maytag script Champion spark plugs in it as well as both of the original Eisemann rubber spark plug boots intact. Both of the decals are original and are still quite nice considering that they are almost 70 years old. 1938 Maytag Twin 72 D Eisemann Original Kick Start Engine NICE Fresh Find LQQK
EARLY 1938 ORIGINAL MAYTAG EISEMANN MODEL 72-D TWIN CYLINDER ENGINE ~ NICE! Fresh estate find. Looks to be nearly all original(the spark plugs may be replacements) and appears to have good compression! Serial number stamped at an angle on flywheel end is 840829. Placing it in the first couple production months of 1938. This engine has not been altered in any way, it is as found and as shown. I do not see any cracks or breaks. It appears solid and sound. This offering is for what looks to be a New old Stock tank top plate but in reality it is a used part. Its just been cleaned up. The cleaned up ones like pictured are Sand Blasted NOT bead blasted. Sand Blasting is a superior method of cleaning and prep for paint or sealing over Bead Blasting in this case. And if you doubt that just ask I will tell you why. I have 31 years experience in the Air Compressor and sandblasting industry. This is part# S-305 and there are several versions that will all interchange so if you need to get technical and get a restoration correct just ask and I will guide you to the correct version.
