It looks like it should have a base. There are no markings on this whistle. After doing some research. I found the name is on the base. I was told by the previous owner it is a Lunkenheimer. The top of the whistle comes apart after some unscrewing. The mid section also unscrews, but I did not unscrew it all the way. I don't know how it works, but it looks to me to be in very good condition. It measures 2.5" in diameter ... moreat the widest x 8" tall. I offer this item to you as it was originally found. A Great display piece for your plumbing store very rare plumbing valve. In this listing there is one Lunkenheimer 3/4" valve called the King Clip fig. 1683 model#1-5425A. Length approx 7" and width is 2 1/4" Unused condition. Does not have original packaging. A few scratch marks are visible. Date of manufactoring- early to mid 1900's. still has plugs in thread holes. Ok you tell me what this is! It is a 2 piece copper thing a ma jig. It is marked Castle 2677 and has a Lunkenheimer brass valve. It obviously has water or boiled water, maybe some sort of sterilizer? This is a Nice Triple Chime LUNKENHEIMER Brass Steam Train Whistle The Triple Chime are Harder to Find and More"RARE" than the Single Chime Whistles It has a few dings and scratches but is in pretty good condition for its age. Valve seats well and compresses the piston. I did try to clean it up some to show the condition. Not sure if that was the right thing to do or not. But I think it more accurately shows the condition it is in. The shine is from oil I put on it to keep it lubricated. I'm not trying to make a fortune here; just get what it is worth and that's all. 2 1/2" Diameter Lunkenheimer (Bald Top) Steam Engine Whistle / Traction / Boiler
Here is a 2 1/2" Diameter Lunkenheimer Bald Top Steam Whistle. The bell is 2 1/2" wide& 6" tall. Overall height is 10 1/2" tall. It has a 3/4" connecting inlet. On one side of the valve it reads Lunkenheimer. And has Pat June 7, 92 on the other side. The bell does have a place in the top that looks like a belt rubbed up against it, but it has no holes. This whistle has been taken apart, and lightly cleaned inside and out. The inside valve seats well and is ready to blow on steam or air. I also put a new spring in the valve, and new brass screws in the bell. Please check out my other items in the next few weeks for more steam whistles and steam related items. old Brass Spigot with spring loaded push valve, Lunkenheimer Quality
Neat old brass valve with spring loaded valve action. I blew through it and valve opens easily and seals tight when closed. Threads are virtually the same as 3/8" pipe thread but are not tapered. I put a 3/8 pipe bushing up next to it in one photo and you can see the difference if you look close. It does screw into 3/8 female pipe and might work if you were use a washer to seal it. This is book#58, measures approximately 5 x 7-1/4" and holds 572 pages, mostly filled with every type of valve you could imagine. The end portion of the book contains tables, specifications, and other data. LARGE Lunkenheimer trombone steam whistle mockingbird sifflet vapeur Dampfpfeife
This is a rare LARGE Lunkenheimer mockingbird whistle that was made in Cincinnati. Ohio. It is sometimes called a trombone whistle or a fire alarm whistle. There is a sliding rod on the bottom of the whistle that changes the length of the chamber. This changes the pitch of the whistle as it is blown. These were sometimes used as fire alarms. A series of high and low pitches was used for communication. T his one w as used on a steam ship! This particular whistle is the largest Mockingbird whistle that was made. It has an 8 inch diameter bell. The overall length of the whistle is 4 6 inches from the top bracket to the bottom flange. The bell is 22 inches long. It is brass. The valve is cast iron. There are no dents in the bell. The sli de moves with about as much effort as sawing a hardwood log by hand. The brass bell is in great shap e! There ... moreare n o dings. But the cast iron bowl is missing the flat languid plate and is pitted f rom the ocean air(see pics) Th e languid plate is the flat plate on the top of the bowl that directs the steam into the bell. pipe approx. 20" long and 1 3/4"diameter. Overall length 25" with valve attached, patent date on conrol valve appears to be March 1918, no maker marks on whistle and no dents in tube. It works, takes a lot air. It makes a noise so low and loud your bones vibrate. My grandfather told me he salvaged it off of one the old ferries that carried people back and forth to the old shipyards across Humboldt Bay. Approx. 8 lbs. Here is a# 3 Lunkenheimer Banner Oiler. On the side of the oiler it reads Banner The Lunkenheimer Co. Cin. O. and has the# 3 on the connecting hex at the bottom. Overall height is 8 3/4" and it has 1/2" connecting threads that are in good shape. The 2 glass pieces have no cracks in them that I see. I did clean the old oil off that was on the outside. This is a vintage antique nickel plated Lunkenheimer hit and miss engine part. It looks like the"Champion Rod Cup No. 2. But I'm not sure. It is 5 1/2 inches tall and about 1 1/2 inches at the glass center. The top piece turns freely All the threads are good and there are no cracks in the glass. I did not try to clean this piece. Beautifully mounted antique brass Lunkenheimer No.1 fig 1300 1300-1. Sentinel Oil Cup Sight Feed Figures 1298 and 1300 For use on stationary bearings. Royal" Oil Cups A spring. Bearing against the knurled regulating cap on top of the needle valve stem, secures the set of the feed when adjusted to any desired point of regulation. Both are furnished with snap cover for filling hole and central stem assembly nut. Sentinel" Slide cover for filling hole. Central stem assembly nut and regulating nut lock spring. Sight glass and indicating feed allow on and off field control without losing flow setting. Highly tempered steel spring automatically regulates position of feed valve stem. Old Lunkenheimer Mockingbird 5 Inch Fire Alarm Steam Whistle Hit Miss Gas Engine
This is a pretty nice original and VERY hard to find Lunkenheimer 5 inch fire alarm steam whistle. They are made similar to a Mockingbird but are a bit different and were used on early fire engines back in the day. It seems to be in good condition with no cracks. Breaks, or repairs of any kind. It is a rather large whistle and is about 26 inches long overall. It is marked with the Lunkenheimer name and has a 1892 patent date on the other side of the body. The slide moves freely. This whistle has 1 1/2 inch pipe threads. The dome is in great shape with only a few very minor dings. I believe this whistle could be plumbed up to steam or compressed air and used just the way it is. Both the slide and the valve have short cables attached to use it. These larger mockingbird whistles are almost impossible to find in the wild or even at swap meets ... moreand really turn some heads when they are polished up and displayed at the shows! The pictures tell the story on this one. They just don't get much nicer! I do not know much about this piece so please ask questions as I will be happy to supply more photos and answers. The back story is that my father was a collector of railroadiana. As it was nostalgia from his days as a Gandy Dancer during the summers of his college years. Our next door neighbor was a switch yard Engineer for C&NW and he would bring old scrap pieces home to my Dad until the neighbor died in the mid 1960's. That is how we came into possession of some of the rail pieces we have online. The Patina on the whistle is original. It has not been touched with a brush or any polishing agents. This Whistle has no arm or aperture for activating it, it my have at one time, but long before we(my family) got it, that hole was closed with a plug. The whistle looks like it was activated fruther down the steam line that fed it. It appear ... moreappears to have three chambers and has three arches associated with each of those chambers respectively. The piece is mounted on a piece of walnut and weighs in at 10 LBS. The cost of shipping will be as economical as possible and as safe as possible, any savings from the $25 charge we don't use you won't pay.
