Maytag Gas Engine Model 82 - Excellent Condition
Complete and nicely restored is this model 82 Maytag. You collectors will know this to be a rare model when compared to the multitude of twin 72's and single cylinder 92's shown on Ebay. This one I purchased at auction from a collector. This was the only 82 in his collection) I've had it for several years. And last I played with it- I could get it to sputter but not run continuously. Probably a timing or carbureator adjustment needed. There is good compression, spark to the plug, and no fins broken etc. Just a very nice example of this rare model Maytag. A great addition for your collection! I am selling as local pick up only. Really don't want to run the risk of damage during shipping- which would be expensive anyway. Maytag Model 82 Engine Washing Machine Motor Rare Antique Hit Miss
Here is a Maytag Model 82 motor. Appears to have had some restoration at some time as it has some fairly nice paint and the gaskets and decals are newer. Sorry I don't know the running condition. The old fellow that used to help me tinker with these old motors has passed now so if they don't fire up real easy I don't really have a clue. This one doesn't have a kick pedal start and doesn't appear to have ever had one. Serial number on the flywheel is 189288. Note where the one mounting hole on the base has been welded. Otherwise I didn't see any cracks or damage. No pulley or exhaust pipe but other than that I believe it to be complete. Shipping will be expensive so please check the shipping calculator before bidding. It will be shipped fully insured at my expense. Very nice original Maytag flat belt pulley. This pulley is for the model 82 Maytag. Sometimes known as the"Sidewinder" The pulley measures 4 1/2 inches in diameter X 1 1/2 inches wide with a 1 1/8 inch diameter bore. Unfortunately someone made the set screw access hole into a slot to start the engine with a rope. Which actually is a very practical idea. The set screw threads are very good. No cracks. Original Antique Hit & Miss Maytag Model 82 Crank Shaft & Brass Side Plate Rare!
Original Maytag model 82 crank shaft and brass side plate. The plate has"S220" cast in raised letters. Unfortunately the crank shaft is not in the best of condition. The rod journal has rust pitting. The brass plate is decent with no cracks breaks or welds. Although it has some issues also. Someone for some reason cut off about 1/2 inch on the bushing end. The piece is still there. Maybe it could be used as is or braised back on? The threads for the grease fitting are good as are the threads for the nut on the end of the crank shaft. Anyway. I am letting a couple engines go to fund another. This is a restored Maytag model 31. Work done includes: new rings, new copper coated gaskets, new kick pedal spring, 2 new brass plugs in the tank, hand made brass inspection cover and spark shut-off lever thing. completely rebuilt mixer and fuel pick-up tube, new connecting rod, new condenser, new spark plug wire and a NOS Champion spark plug, and of course new paint and decals. Some of the polished surfaces have tarnished, or light rust has formed. I restored the engine two years ago, ran it for 5 minutes, then just took it to shows as an eye catcher. It is sitting on a VERY sturdy skid which is unstained. It is a herder to find model 31 short base. It has the optional and RARE small pulley on it. This is a Maytag Model 82 Multi-Motor 2 Cycle Gas Engine. From An Early Gas Powered Model 82 Gyrator Washer From About 1924. This is In Need Of A full Restoration, Or to Use For Parts. The Engine Is Loose& Has GREAT Compression. It Is Clean& will Be Easy To Get Apart, This Still Has Most Of the Original Type Bolts. The Cylinder Jug Is Good, No Chipped fins.This Is complete& looks to Have All Of The Ignition Components, Including The Timing Tab, Which Are usually Missing! Will Need A Lead out Tower& Plugwire The Serial Number is 144975 It was Stamped nicely On The flywheel& Is the right Number Range for the Features Of the Engine. This looks to Have A pretty Good E- Type Carb. That Will need the choke cap.
