VINTAGE / ANTIQUE MAYTAG MODEL 72 HIT & MISS STATIONARY ENGINE
For bid is a Maytag model 72 hit& miss engine. This engine is complete and in running condition. I worked on it last fall and got it running. Today. I put some gasoline in the tank and it started up with no problem. It runs very smooth. It was running when I took the close up pictures of the flywheel. I could not slow the shutter speed on my camera enough to show it running. There is a weld(braze) on the starter kick pedal as can be seen in a couple of the pictures. The repair was done very well, but nevertheless, it was repaired. This is an underslung type mount. There is a wrench included which is also shown in the pictures. This engine is used and is being sold as/is. Anyone in the 43402 area is welcome to contact me and inspect this engine.

Vintage Maytag Model 72-D Manufactured 1940 Washing Machine Engine. The Maytag Motor is in nice shape for its age. And has the rare attractive easy mounting cast base. The Motor was stored inside a building our family just got for many years. I cleaned the motor the best I could with out taking anything apart. The Maytag Motor appears complete with no missing. Cracked or broke parts other than the spark plug end on one side is broke. The rubber motor heat guards on spark plugs are damaged from heat. I took them off for cleaning and forgot to put on for pictures, I will send with machine. spark plug wires look good. I have not tried to start motor. I do not want to put gas in the tank and have the smell limit the possibility of shipping this item. I looked in the gas tank with a gun barrel light, the tank looks good the little bit I could ... moresee. The motor appears to have good compression. MAYTAG FRUITJAR HIT AND MISS GAS ENGINE RESTORED GREAT RUNNER 72
Here is a MAYTAG FRUITJAR engine. It was restored for the previous owner and I put a rebuilt(by Zack Northway) carburetor on it. It runs like a top. We only fill the fuel tank into the iron base. Not in the jar. There is a crack in the aluminum lid and there is no gasket so the jar will not hold gas, it could have been fixed, but who's crazy enough to put gas in the"factory made molotov cocktail? It has fantastic spark and compression and with a good hand has been flipped to start. We use a pull rope though. Two people said they thought it was an original. More than that though have said it is a reproduction. It is being sold as a reproduction! The serial number is 108738, which is in the proper range. There are no cracks breaks or welds on it anywhere. We are having some health issues and have determined it is to big for us to try ... moreand keep and show. Old MAYTAG 72 Twin Hit Miss Gas Wash Machine Engine Briggs Steam Tractor WOW
This is a two cylinder Maytag 72 two cylinder air cooled hit and miss gas engine. It is in good condition with no cracks. Breaks, or repairs of any kind that I could find or know of other than the chips on the belt pulley which isn't original. It turns over nicely and has good compression. It is missing a few parts like the kick pedal and starter assembly but the nice part of restoring Maytag engines is all of the parts are readily available usually right here on Ebay! I'm sure with some minimal effort this engine will run again. It has the original v-belt pulley on it on the flywheel side to drive the washing machine or whatever you'd like to run with it. Should be an easy Prime/Paint job for you if you choose to paint. It had some tank treatment inside but was so old and cracked that I removed it. There is some pitting on the bottom of the tank. Not bad considering its age. But all and all good shape. I water tested it and the only leak I found was around the drain plug, so will need to either buy or make a new plug bushing. Repainted about two years ago runs strong guard and top plate was recently painted, requires a 16:1 fuel oil ratio spark plugs replaced a couple years ago when i got it starts easy, the muffler is not original, its off a briggs engine but can be detached with bolts, see picture 7, sometimes the kick pedal stays down after kicked but is free, spring is a bit lazy nd might be able to be tightened, all and all great engine, DOLLY NOT INCLUDED

According to a web page I found. The kick start turned freely. But I will assume that this has no spark it is dirty and will need cleaned. Cobwebs and dirty. Gas Tank did not look like it had any cracks. Looked pretty good for its age. Other than dirty.

Maytag 72 base S339 and bracket
Maytag multi-motor 72 engine base/tank and bracket. This is the non-threaded base that goes with a hanging multi-motor. I converted my 1941 engine to a footed base so I don't need these parts anymore. I lightly glass-beaded the crud out of the inside bottom of the base and found the part number. I just solvent-cleaned the outside. Because some collectors want the original look. No cracks or stripped threads. I coaxed the drain plug out and cleaned it up also. Maytag 72 Twin Hit Miss Engine-Completely Restored I met an older gentleman in N. Ca who spent his life restoring these wonderful engines back to like new condition. As you can see from the pictures'she's' a real beauty. Engine was completely stripped. New epoxy paint, new rings, all internals, including'hot' coils for a good spark, plugs, plug wires, etc. Maytag engine decals as well on nice wood base. As an added convenience, he put a copper and brass spigot on the fuel tank, so you easily drain whatever fuel you don't use when you run the engine. He ran it for an hour, and I have run it for 1/2 an hour. Runs beautifully. I cannot warranty the engine as it is rebuilt by someone else. But it has run beautifully for me. This engine is so clean and beautiful I keep it in the house in my study on a nice rug to show it ... moreoff. I will remove the starting pedal and pack inside box with the engine. The recommended mix is 8 ounces of oil to 1 gallon of gas. According to Maytag records. The flywheel#942976 was manufactured in Dec 1940. This is a very heavy little engine and requires very careful packing. I will go to great lengths to pack it carefully. Shipping with full Insurance will be a flat $99.00. It will probably cost me more than that. So please don't complain. Mail and shipping prices like the cost of bread, are out of my control these days.
