John Deere 404 Diesel Engine Running
FIRST OFF. I AM NOT POSITIVE IF THIS IS A 404. I could not find a tag on it, like are on some 404's or Deere engines. I have a 404 Turbo in my shed that looks just like this engine but it has a tag. If anyone can tell me I would appreciate it. It was pulled out of a 6600 combine that was a Hydro& Sidehill, so I just assumed they had the bigger 404 engine. Serial# of the combine was 255720H if that helps anyone. Was a later model. had rotary screen. I pulled this out of a combine I bought from a farmer that had been using it as a parts machine for his other 6600. They said it had been a few yeas since it ran. I got it home, hooked up fresh fuel, primed it& fired her up. The oil was at a good level. Starter seems fine. Has no pulley on the water pump so I only ran it bout 10 minutes. Seemed to run fine to me. Did not appear to smoke. ... moreHad great oil pressure. The throttle response seemed a little slow when you would hit the lever forward. Maybe a while of running fresh fuel through it would help. If you moved it slowly it worked fine. No big deal really. The hour meter read 4300plus hours do not know if it worked. I did not run it long enough to tell if it had moved. It is a complete engine. Starter, alternator,Roosa Master pump& flywheel are all on it. It is sold as is. I will not ship, please do not ask. Easy to load here. Must be fully paid for within 7 days of the end of the auction, no exceptions. Not paid for, you will be reported& it will be relisted. You're bidding on a used Kawasaki KF82D-X engine. It's an electric start. With carb and muffler. I acquired it from a State surplus. Motor looks very nice and clean. It seem like it hasn't been use for years. I dumped the old gas, cleaned the carburetor and the motor started up smoothly without any problem. Engine runs strong, No smoke, knock or unusual noises. Engine has original manufactured pain. I would rate the engine as a 9/10. Look at the detailed pictures of the engine. This engine can be use for multiple application, water pump, go cart, dune buggy, club cart, mower, john deer. etc. The motor is electric start and it's a 341 cc displacement motor. Tractor Runs good.Starts good,NOTE:right stick does not work.I was told it is probalby the universal linkage inside the right housing that they pop apart at the bottom of the linkage and is a common repair.Last photo shows a old repair to the case just behind the right brake pedal, appears to be a good weld no further cracking. Blade framework has several weld repairs on it, all holding just a FYI. Blade goes up and down with the cylinder and is a manual pin type left or right for blade angle. Nice old 2 sided celluloid watch fob advertising for Waterloo Gasoline Engine Co. Picture of Waterloo Boy Small Farm Tractor on one side and a stationary engine on the other side. Button was made by Parasan Novelty co. Chicago. The fob is 1 3/4" in dia. There is a steel disk in the center of the 2 celluloid buttons. The steel disk still has its black paint on and never had rusting. The buckle is also rust free. The celluloid faces have some scratching and the tractor side has a short crack. May be hard to see, it starts at the boys hand and extends to the left, see close up. The labels as you can see are very nice with no staining. The leather strap is also nice with no tears, it is a thin leather, not heavy like a watch band. I really don't think this was ever used.
