Vintage Chandler and Price platen printing press, antique, typeset
For sale is a C& P platen press. The serial number in photo two says"1986" from what I have found, that indicates that this press was manufactured in 1890, but I have never used this press other than spinning it over by hand and via the electric motor retrofitted onto it. The press(and the four Hamilton typeset cabinets full of typeset and shapes/designs) are in my basement. Unfortunately our basement does not have good access to get the press out. It will have to be disassembled to get it up the stairs and out. It appears from research that this printer weighs 2550 pounds. This press came with the house that we purchased and we need the space for storage, so it has to go. I am hoping that there is someone who has a passion for this and can use it. Up for sale is an extremely neat vintage Chandler& Price Co. Printing Press out of Cleveland. Ohio. Press was operable when last used. But has not been fired up since. Vintage Morgan Co. Line-O-Scribe Sign Machine Industrial Printing Press #948-12
Line-O-Scribe Sign Machine made by Morgan Co. Chicago, IL. circa 1940s. Used in a large, Upstate New York family-run department store that did their own print ads and signs, in house. This unit is in four pieces: the printing mechanism itself, the work bench with 28 drawers, a rolling typeface rack and a light hood. This sign press comes with a compliment of over 3,000 pieces of individual lead typeface(12 full drawers of type similar to Futura, Arial, Helvetica, Script and Felt Pen) plus several 14" rollers in good condition and an excellent 13.75" x 13.75" ink plate. There are many, pre-made blocks of type with often-used words like, NOW" Special" and"Today" plus many more. One utility drawer has unopened tubes of Line-O-Scribe inks and thinner and another has all sizes of furniture for padding spaces ... morebetween type. There are also several inking rollers, a pump tin and ink dispensing can. The only electrical part of this unit is for the 48" light fixture in the hood and needs rewiring. Otherwise, it would not take much cleaning to have this press up and running. Great for teaching purposes and for use in small businesses. Vintage Chandler and Price printing press. I don't know much about this piece. It has been in storage for many years. It belongs to a family member and I am trying to sell it for him. From what I am told the piece is good shape for as old as it is. It moves freely with no binding. It has 4 patented dates on the side dating May 26.1886/ Apl 12,1887/ March12 1889& Jan,1890 which is rare.There is also a stamped date on the handle May 26 1886. The measurements are 28" in width, 42" in height and 44" in lenght. It would make a nice addition to any collection or antique for display. Vintage Crftsman Superior Like Victor Tabletop Letter Printing Press commercial
All reasonable offers will be considered. This Rare"Superior" presses appear to be copies of presses made by the Victor Press Company. Which was absorbed by Kelsey Company in the early 20th Century. This will be dismantled and shipped in two separate boxes due to its weight this item weighs over 160 lbs Craftsmen Machinery Company produced presses very similar to the most popular presses of the small-press era. In fact. They were nearly identical copies. Furthermore, Craftsmen seems to have used the original Sigwalt, Caxton, Golding, Victor and other defunct manufacturer's presses as the casting patterns for the presses shown in this 1955 catalog. A comparison of an original Victor Press Company 4x6 press in our collection with the Craftsmen 4x6"Victory" press shown below shows a 1% difference in size. 1% is the amount ... moreof shrinkage normally associated with cast-iron production. To us. This confirms the theory that Craftsmen presses are direct copies of other popular presses from the turn of the century. This has lead to some confusion over models and model names- as well as the fit of replacement or after-market press parts. The scan below is from the 1955 Craftsmen Catalog. The Hobby Press looks like a Sigwalt Chicago model. The Supreme looks like an old Caxton. The Victory. Imperial and Superior presses appear to be copies of presses made by the Victor Press Company. Which was absorbed by Kelsey Company in the early 20th Century. The C.M.C. Jobber is clearly a Golding P earl. Vintage Craftsmen Monarch 9 x 12 Tabletop Letterpress Printing Press C&P Pilot
One of the largest Tabletop Printing Presses! Craftsmen Monarch 9" x 12" Letterpress Printing Press After Chandler& Price went out of business. Craftsmen Machine Co. of Massachusetts made these copies of the Chandler& Price Pilot. Many of the parts are exact or close copies of the Pilot press and are interchangeable with the Pilot. These later Craftsmen Presses. Like this one, was made of high strength cast aluminum. This monster table top press only weighs 125 lbs(less than half of what is would weigh if in cast iron! This press is fully operational. And includes brand new rubber Rotadyne Rollers and new Craftsmen trucks that I purchased from Craftsmen Machinery Co. which is still in business in Mass. This press includes a Chandler& Price(8 1/2 x 12) chase which fits this machine perfectly without alteration and are ... morereadily available. The funny and sad story about the chase. I purchased this from a home print shop and the owner had never used the press in the almost 30 years he owned it. The press actually shows little use. Over the years he lost the chase. Which I found is almost impossible to locate. Craftsmen sold me their last used one for $180 and the post office left it in front of my shop where it was stolen. As a last resort I tried every chase that I had sitting in the shop and low and behold, the most common chase available fit perfect. The chase is a bit beefier than the Craftsmen chase so it only has a 8.5x12 inner size rather than the 9x12 that the original had, but given that the C&P chase can be found any day for about $40, it makes the press even more versatile. Vintage Craftsman Victory Letterpress Manual Hand Operated Printing Press Rare!
For your consideration is this vintage. Hard to find, Craftsman Machinery CO, Boston Mass, letterpress, printing press. I know little about these. My research indicates that this is a Victory model. In very solid condition with little rust. One thing that I found interesting is the Craftsman name in the casting on the side is missing an"a" As shown in the photos, it is spelt Crftsman, not Craftsman. The flat metal plate( I think is called the platen) measures about 7 3/4" by 5 1/2" The rollers are missing. The metal bracket and wood tray that holds the paper is also missing. There are four bolts that have been replaced. One is a hinge bolt, One of the bolts that attaches the platen and the two bolts that attach the bracket that holds the round ink plate. These bolts are two long and are interfering with the lever that ... moreturns the round plate. These should be visible in the photos and a easy fix with the proper bolts. Not sure if there is anything else missing. Otherwise, mechanically, it appears to be in working condition. Very hefty piece of equipment weighing in at 54 pounds. 4 Letterpress Printing CHASES Chandler& Price C&P Type-Frames 8"x12" 9x13 Up for auction are four letterpress printing chases for type. They are all made of cast-iron. Two of the frames bear the name"Chandler& Price" Along with the number 828 1/2, hash marks on the borders. The third frame bears the same number but does not have the manufacturers name. Instead it bears a Roman numeral, otherwise it is nearly identical. All three have rounded interior corners for lifting the type. All three are 3/4" deep, and have an interior dimesion of 8"x12" exterior dimension is 10 1/4"x 13 3/4" The fourth frame is slightly different, without any markings and an interior size of 9"x13" Condition is Very Good/ VG: apart from some mild surface rust the only damage to speak of is a cracked ... moreupper-right corner to one of the C&P frames. It's a hairline crack but goes clear through& should be mended. The other frames are sound& there are no other serious defects. VINTAGE**EXCEPTIONAL**SIGWALT CAST IRON TABLETOP LETTER PRINTING PRESS
You are bidding on a wonderful VINTAGE Sigwalt Chicago#11 letterpress. This is a Sigwalt Chicago tabletop letterpress and believe this is the#11 press as it holds two rollers. The press is black with gold accent paint and retains most of the decal decoration on one side. But only a portion on the other side. This press measures approximately 17' long with handle down, 14' with handle up, 6-1/2' wide and weighs about 12.4 lbs. It is in very good working condition with smooth action. The paint is in good condition with some paint loss and normal wear. I believe one of the bolts has been changed. It comes with the chase and rollers. Vintage B & J INGENTO LETTER PRINTING PRESS HAND INKING ROLLER Cast Iron HANDLE
This is for the piece you see here. I believe that this is a very old handle to a printing roller. Probably as old as 100 years or more, but I really have no way to know. Very nice piece, nonetheless. The wood roller is 4" wide.
