VTG/Antique PRINTING PRESS 4x6 Table Top SIGWALT Victorian Decals 19th C +EXTRAS
Up for bid is the vintage/antique PRINTING PRESS with TONS OF EXTRAS/ BONUS PRINTING ITEMS/SUPPLIES. As seen in the pictures/ as described in the title. This is my first press find. I know little about it. Other than the missing roller(s) it looks to be complete and fully functional. No blarringly obvious defects whatsoever. From my research. I believe this to be an early Sigwalt Model from circa the late 19th century that is in exceptionally good condition in comparison to others its age. Features many original, multi-colored Victorian style lithograph decals at both sides and small accents throughout(at other sides and crevases, see pics) Some are faded and partial, most near complete and quite bright& vivid. Amazingly, the vast majority of the original black paint/ japanning remains. Another very cool feature is the last, very old ... morepiece of paper found in the frame. It is a"FASHION SHOW" advertisement/announcement that was to take place at Wallace School on Willow Ave on May 28, 1982. Also included are all of the extras found with the press. I do not"speak presses" so I will let the pictures be the extras' official description(see 1st& last pictures) I did not open any of the cans/tubes of ink/gloss though it is clear that they are nearly full. Actual contents/usability unknown. At the very least, they are neat display items and surely have collectability/value in their advertising qualities alone. The(10) quoins are of(3) different types/sizes/makers(see last pic) and have superb patina. The lead spacers are brand new. When found, they were in a box, half out of the package(seen in 1st& last pics) I just removed the rest to show how many are included(a few hundred, I would guess) I picked from a Northern N.J. farm estate that was first developed in the late 18th century. Original owner had passed and the lady who sold me this press did not even know what it was. So sadly. I was unable to learn any fun or interesting history of this piece. Sigwalt #11 Letterpress printing press - restored & 100% print ready
This press has been completely disassembled. All painted parts were stripped down to the metal and re-finished with 2 coats of primer then 2 coats of color and a clear coat. All non-painted parts(pivoting rods. Ink arms, etc. were cleaned thoroughly. The fasteners in platen back and chase have been replaced with new stainless steel hex drive screws. The platen has been balanced to the chase bed with.040" packing under the tympan and is included with the press. The additional sheets of press packing included will allow you to change the packing under the tympan to adjust the print impression height as you change stock caliper. This is much easier than re-balancing the platen each time you change stock caliper. The press is currently packed to print on.012" stock. For example. If you wanted to print on.007" stock, you would add ... morea sheet of.005" packing under the tympan. As with any press, the condition of your type and blocks and the uniformity of the type height will ultimately determine the quality of the printed image. The type used to print the proof card was not new. Rollers& trucks are new. Rollers have only been used on this press(to verify press balance and roller& truck quality) to print the card in the photo gallery for this item. The press has been secured with stainless steel fasteners to a base made of oak which is stained& coated with a satin polyurethane. Rubber feet are fastened to each corner of the underside of the base so the press& base will not'walk' when printing. Base is long enough so that the back of the press will not lift off when you push the press on impression. Included with this press: 2 rollers& trucks- 2 sheets.010 press packing- in addition to what is already under the tympan on the press- 3 sheets.005 press packing- 3 sheets.002 press packing- 5 sheets tympan(in addition to the sheet that is on the press) 4 hex wrenches(chase. Antique Sigwalt Chicago#10 Printing Press Letterpress This auction is for an antique lever press made by Sigwalt. Chicago, about 1910. The press is in a fantastic, unrestored, working condition, but it does need new rollers. I am including a box of antique type and leading in this auction to get you started. Length 15" height 9-1/2, width 6-1/2; chase 3-3/4x2-1/2. Please note that even though it's a small press, it is quite heavy and weighs 22 lbs as it's made of cast iron. John Sigwalt(1836-1924) started his working life in the sewing machine business. Then became a dealer in ticket stamps and seals. In 1899 he began producing small printing presses, copies of various popular models. His Chicago, a copy of Dorman’s Baltimorean, was on the market by 1910. Sigwalt Chicago #9 table top letterpress printing press antique platen Kelsey
Hi. Selling a little table top letterpress printing press. No markings, its either a sigwalt or Chicago#9. Chase inside dimensions are 3-13/16 x 2-1/2. Is made to use with 2 rollers, but this does not have rollers with it. About a year ago I stripped it down, sandblasted it, and painted it black. Looks nice! I replaced the lever nut/ bolt with new stainless hardware. I made the chase out of 1/4" stainless. not original, but works great. I also drilled and tapped for(2) 1/4-20 bolts in the bottom of the chase which eliminates the need for quoins when using a block. platen is nice and even. Adjustment screws work properly. Needs gripper spring. ink disk works and spins as it should. Nice little press. I use it regularly, I just want something bigger. Use as is and ink with a brayer as I do, or buy rollers/trucks. Nice for business cards ... moreand such. I currently have it on a wood base, which I will include if you're doing local pickup, but it is not included if press is being shipped, as it would not be worth the additional shipping charges due to its size. Sigwalt Chicago#11 letterpress. This is a wonderful Sigwalt Chicago tabletop letterpress. Believe this is the#11 press as it does hold two rollers. The press is black with gold accent paint and retains most of the decal decoration on one side. But only a portion on the other side. This press measures approximately 17' long with handle down, 14' with handle up, 6-1/2' wide and weighs about 12.4 lbs. It is in very good working condition with smooth action but does not come with a chase, type or rollers. The paint is in good condition with some paint loss and normal wear. This displays beautifully and is a nice example of a small Sigwalt letterpress. Questions are welcomed and thanks for the interest! Insurance is included with shipping price.

Antique PRINTING PRESS 4x6 Table Top SIGWALT Or Golding? Printer Block Wood Type
I believe this to be a Sigwalt 4" x 6" Non Pareil. If there is a number or name I don't see it. The round base had me thinking a Golding but I found this in a printer's basement on the south side of Chicago. Home of Sigwalt. Light surface rust as shown. Handle moves easily and comes with the chase. Someone covered it in gold at one time. A restoration project to make it look pretty, but the pros on printing presses do rave about Sigwalts and many prefer them over Kelseys. Do some research, Google Briarpress to find some rollers and get expert opinions. This will be double boxed with styrofoam padding. Approximately 60 lbs. Local pickup is always free.
