Kelsey Excelsior 3x5 Model M Letterpress + extra chase - 100% restored
My best guess on the original manufacture date of this press is 1940's or 50's. I am including an extra refurbished chase with locking bars with this press. This press has been completely disassembled. All painted parts were stripped down to the metal and re-finished with 2 coats of primer then 2 coats of color and a clear coat. The raised type in the castings have been accented with silver paint. All non-painted parts(pivoting rods. Ink arms, etc. were cleaned thoroughly. The fasteners in platen back and chase have been replaced with new stainless steel hex drive screws. The chase latch spring and platen spring are both new and made of stainless steel. The platen has been balanced to the chase bed with.060" packing under the tympan and is included with the press. The additional sheets of press packing included will allow you ... moreto change the packing under the tympan to adjust the print impression height as you change stock caliper. This is much easier than re-balancing the platen each time you change stock caliper. The press is currently packed to print on.012" stock. For example. If you wanted to print on.007" stock, you would add a sheet of.005" packing under the tympan. As with any press, the condition of your type and blocks and the uniformity of the type height will ultimately determine the quality of the printed image. The type used to print the proof card was not new. Rollers& trucks are new and have only been used on this press(to verify press balance and roller& truck quality) to print the card in the photo gallery for this item. The press has been secured with stainless steel fasteners to a base made of oak which is stained& coated with a satin polyurethane. Rubber feet are fastened to each corner of the underside of the base so the press& base will not'walk' when printing. Base is long enough so that the back of the press will not lift off when you push the press on impression. Included with this press: 2 rollers& trucks- 2 sheets.010 press packing-

Vintage Kelsey & Company Letterpress Chase
You are bidding on a vintage Kelsey& Company letterpress chase. It measures 11 1/2 in. by 7 3/4 in. out side and 10 1/4 by 6 1/4 inside. A 1 inch notch is on the top to latch it on the press with 4 adjusting screws on the bottom and two on one side. There is an aluminium runner on one side that is removeable that i do not know how it stays on when put into the press. All used and in great shape.

NO ink smudges, NO gouges of ANY kind on the ink table, the previous owner must have loved this baby. These pictures are from the press being taken directly out of my car. nothing touched AT ALL! PLEASE READ. It comes with 3 chases. And 7 SEVEN perfect trays of type. Yup, 7! They all have the cut portions of the type packaging so you can tell what is in the trays. Trays are Incredible, again, NO INK, nothing, all type is super clean and shiny. It does NOT have any rollers, I looked everywhere at the house I got it at, but I am guessing they got thrown out by mistake, I can't see how he could have such an amazing machine and not keep his rollers in equally perfect shape. Rare Ca.1890 Kelsey OK Jobber Letterpress Printing Press 9" x 13"
Rare Kelsey OK Jobber. Built between 1886 and 1898. 9" x 13" Comes with 1 chases. Weight Approx 600 lbs. Is in working condition. Rollers are usable but not great. The press works but it is not the smoothest running press. Missing a bolt and washer to hold one of the side arms. The rod that holds the treadle is a replacement. The bolts holding the feed table to the sides are replacements. Break to the corner of the side casting that has been repaired, does not affect the press(see photos) Slow press, which is good since there is not much dwell to it. This is a rare press, but I would not say it is a great candidate for someone starting letterpress that wants to produce a lot of printing. Fun second press, oddity, a collectible and a museum piece. Sigwalt Chicago #9 table top letterpress printing press antique platen Kelsey
Hi. Selling a little table top letterpress printing press. No markings, its either a sigwalt or Chicago#9. Chase inside dimensions are 3-13/16 x 2-1/2. Is made to use with 2 rollers, but this does not have rollers with it. About a year ago I stripped it down, sandblasted it, and painted it black. Looks nice! I replaced the lever nut/ bolt with new stainless hardware. I made the chase out of 1/4" stainless. not original, but works great. I also drilled and tapped for(2) 1/4-20 bolts in the bottom of the chase which eliminates the need for quoins when using a block. platen is nice and even. Adjustment screws work properly. Needs gripper spring. ink disk works and spins as it should. Nice little press. I use it regularly, I just want something bigger. Use as is and ink with a brayer as I do, or buy rollers/trucks. Nice for business cards ... moreand such. Here is a vintage Kelsey& Co Excelsior Mercury tabletop letterpress. Model N, size 3x5. Made in Meriden, Conn, USA. It works freely, oiled, maintained well. Has the rollers. The rollers were restored at some point and works great. The ink pan turns every time the handle is pulled. It measures 19" long, 15" high and 10" wide. Kelsey Mercury Model P 5-8 Excelsior Hand Lever Platen Letterpress This is a fully functional table-top platen lever press manufactured by Kelsey& Company. As shown in the photos it is complete with all parts and ready to produce. This hand lever press is in good working condition. But has not been used in more than 40 years. I obtained it from a business sale in 1973 and have not used it for printing since then. The press still operates smoothly but the working parts need cleaning and lubrication to function at their best. Some parts have dried ink on them. But this can be removed with solvent. The original paint finish on the press is generally in good condition with few chips or nicks. There is no rust on any of the working parts. This late manufacture Kelsey Model P includes the l ocking bed feature not found on the earlier manufactured ... moremodels. It also includes an impression counter that is operated by the action of the press handle. The Kelsey presses are no longer in production and therefore will continue to increase in value as collectors acquire them. Information. Supplies and instruction for the use of the press can readily be found on the internet. The Press measures 24' long x 16' high x 14' wide and weighs 68 lbs with rollers and trucks installed. The press is mounted on a 16 inch square 3/4 inch thick plywood base. The Platen measures 9.00" x 6.50' The inside Chase measures 8.00' x 5.00" The auction sale includes: 1 Kelsey Model P Letterpress. With chase and associated equipment: 2 high quality rubber rollers and two additional rollers that have some damage. These are the original rollers that I bought with the press. Parts/Fix Kelsey & Co Excelsior 3 x 5" Letterpress Tabletop Printing Press 1893
I sold this quite awhile ago for $300. However unfortunately the plate was cracked in two during shipping and another arm beneath the plate has broken. I'm sure there's people out there who can salvage the parts or perhaps even repair this to working condition. There is some light rust which can clearly be seen in the orange hue. Originally this was black with gold detailing. Much of this black patina and gold detail remains but it is far from complete. This weighs near 30 pounds(shipping will be based upon buyer location since it is so heavy) There is an April 6. 1893 patent date as well as patent numbers for England, France and Germany. I am not real familiar with these letter presses. So I won't be able to answer technical questions. This would need a fair amount of TLC to bring it back to life, but there are inevitably some ... moregood parts on here that can be used to go that route. Shipped based upon buyer location(shipping something this heavy out West can be very expensive) If I'm able to find a cheaper option than the one automatically calculated(USPS Parcel) then that will be used and I will pass savings onto you. Offered in this auction is a Kelsey& co 6x10 model E Excelsior table top letterpress printing press. In great condition. No dents or cracks. Free from rust. many, many extras. 23 full trays of letters, sorted, not mixed. Rubber rollers are used with dried ink on them. Pivot points are free moving. Very hard to find these in this condition and with all the bells and whistles. The original cabinet cannot fit all the letter trays! No brakes or welds I would recommend bolting to a board or table for long runs. other then some ink staining- disk and other flat surfaces are in great shape. Paint color is called dark metal metallic with some parts painted black. Comes with a lot of stuff; see photos. New rubber rollers with locked trucks. New Box car base. One chase. Has a counter mounted to press. A lot of different press packing. Long and sort fingers[grippers] normally removed for box car base and use foam gauge pins some included. new gripper spring. Short fingers are new also. There is a set of mixing ink. 10 colors and white if I remember. We are selling our Chandler& Price Pilot Press. This press is unrestored. But is in full working order with all original parts(with the exception of 1 spring and the feed board) We have owned the press for 8 years and printed some projects on it, but our volume and sizes requirements forced us to work commercial letterpress printers instead. Since then it has safely sat unused in our studio. When we bought the press from a shop that had closed. We had it refurbished to perfect working condition by a Pilot expert in his shop. Other than some dust, its condition is unchanged from then. There are no cracks and no missing parts-with the exception of rollers. These were misplaced in a move, but new ones can be bought from NA graphics for about $100 each. All adjustable parts move as they should(impression screws nuts, tympan bales, and grippers) ... moreIt could use some cleaning and some oiling, but otherwise it doesn't need any further restoration to print capably for a long time. We're also including all the extra parts and tools pictured below. Other than rollers and whatever plates you'll be printing with. This is everything you'll need to get up and running: 3 6.5 x 10 Pilot Chases. A composing stick. 8 nearly full tubes of 1/2 pound ink(most unused) from NA graphics. Leads and slugs. Which includes complete dismantling, sand blasting the entire press to bare metal, making any corrections/improvements needed, then replacing all the rod bearings with new, oil hardening steel rods, followed by refinishing with the finest sprayed and baked on enamel, then re-assembly to closer than original factory tolerances. No detail. No matter how small, has been overlooked in restoring this press to better than new. Note the nicely, hand turned aluminum part behind the platen. This part holds the platen spring in place. The original solution by Kelsey is a spring held back by a pin going through the platen shank from left to right. This is a poor, cheap, unstable way to give the platen ... morethe pressure against the platen drive so that when it returns to the rest position, it will always go back to the exact position when pressure is applied against the type and paper. Unless this whole assembly is rock solid, your work will never be high quality. Any variation or unstableness of the platen against the type and paper will produce poor or possibly blurred results. Also, if that platen and the press back it squeezes against to make an impression, are not PERFECTLY flat, it will not print evenly. The“high” spots will give a deeper impression than the“low spots” which will be lighter than the high spots. In fact, the low areas might not print at all. Totally unacceptable for high quality work. Our trucks are made of steel. Not plastic Another small detail is the dog-leg that drives the ink table. Kelsey uses a hole drilled through the rod and the dog-leg then inserts a small cheap nail like wire brad(nail) which is swaged on the ends so it doesn’t come out. It’s a cheap. Kelsey Excelsior 3x5 Model N Letterpress A75L fully restored & 100% print ready
This press was manufactured in December of 1975. This press has been completely dis-assembled and stripped down to the cast iron. All cast iron parts have been painted with 2 coats of primer. 2 coats of color and a clear coat. Mating surfaces have be masked as to allow proper contact when re-assembled. The raised type in the press castings have been detailed with gold paint. All pivot rods have been thoroughly cleaned and lubricated upon re-assembly. The press is mounted to an oak base that has been stained and coated with a satin polyurethane. The mounting screws are new and made of stainless steel. There are 4 rubber feet secured with new stainless screws to the underside of the base to keep the press from walking while printing. This press has new rollers and new locking trucks. Kelsey Excelsior 5x8 Mercury Model P Letterpress B51E + starter kit + extras
This package contains almost everything you need to start printing in multiple colors. You will need to purchase mineral spirits and denatured alcohol from your local hardware store(I don't like to ship things that are flammable) to clean up the form. Rollers and ink table. May want some nitrile gloves as well if you don't want ink on your hands. This press has been completely dis-assembled and stripped down to the cast iron. All cast iron parts have been painted with 2 coats of primer. 2 coats of color and a clear coat. Mating surfaces have be masked as to allow proper contact when re-assembled. The raised type in the press castings have been detailed with gold paint. All ... morepivot rods have been thoroughly cleaned and lubricated upon re-assembly. The press is mounted to an oak base that has been stained and coated with a satin polyurethane. The mounting screws are new and made of stainless steel. There are 4 rubber feet secured with new stainless screws to the underside of the base to keep the press from walking while printing. This press has new rollers. New locking trucks and new stainless gripper bar spring. I have added an extension onto the chase bed latch as to keep the gripper latch spring from abrading the finish on the press frame. The chase bed latch spring is new and made of stainless steel. Press has been balanced and test printed using the rollers that are included with the press to print the card in the photos. There is.050 packing under the tympan and additional sheets of packing are included with the press. This will allow you to adjust the packing to compensate for different stock calipers without having to re-balance the press.
