Long impression dwell, pause for feeding plus its heavy precision construction which enabled the C&P to print"run of the hook" from a postage stamp to large four-color register forms or die cutting. Proprietors loved its ability to run just about any job profitably with practically no"down time" in spite of little maintenance. Chandler& Price Meet 1881 Harrison T. Chandler. An Illinois banker, while negotiating to buy an interest in the Cleveland Type Foundry, met William H. Price, son of a builder of printing presses. They founded the Chandler& Price Co. of Cleveland to build printing equipment. In 1884 the partners introduced their famous jobber in two sizes-7xll and 10xl5 and by year's end over 300 presses had been built. Subsequently the press was built in 8xl2. 14x20, 14.5x22 sizes. The C&P was not of original design. Being based on several expired patents granted to George Phineas Gordon about 1850. Vintage Chandler and Price platen printing press, antique, typeset
For sale is a C& P platen press. The serial number in photo two says"1986" from what I have found, that indicates that this press was manufactured in 1890, but I have never used this press other than spinning it over by hand and via the electric motor retrofitted onto it. The press(and the four Hamilton typeset cabinets full of typeset and shapes/designs) are in my basement. Unfortunately our basement does not have good access to get the press out. It will have to be disassembled to get it up the stairs and out. It appears from research that this printer weighs 2550 pounds. This press came with the house that we purchased and we need the space for storage, so it has to go. I am hoping that there is someone who has a passion for this and can use it. Hi. Selling a little table top letterpress printing press. No markings, its either a sigwalt or Chicago#9. Chase inside dimensions are 3-13/16 x 2-1/2. Is made to use with 2 rollers, but this does not have rollers with it. About a year ago I stripped it down, sandblasted it, and painted it black. Looks nice! I replaced the lever nut/ bolt with new stainless hardware. I made the chase out of 1/4" stainless. not original, but works great. I also drilled and tapped for(2) 1/4-20 bolts in the bottom of the chase which eliminates the need for quoins when using a block. platen is nice and even. Adjustment screws work properly. Needs gripper spring. ink disk works and spins as it should. Nice little press. I use it regularly, I just want something bigger. Use as is and ink with a brayer as I do, or buy rollers/trucks. Nice for business cards ... moreand such. I currently have it on a wood base, which I will include if you're doing local pickup, but it is not included if press is being shipped, as it would not be worth the additional shipping charges due to its size. Challenge Platen Printing Press Letterpress
Challenge platen press I bought it a few years ago and while attempting to move it ourselves. It fell off the truck and was damaged. The bar that holds the flywheel on is broken. As well as the arm that holds the wooden shelf on the front, and the lever on the side. In addition to the damage from falling off the truck, one of the holders for the rollers is broken, and the roller that is on there needs to be replaced as well. I havent had the time or money to look into repairing it. And it has just been sitting in the garage under plastic. Local pick up only. It is extremely heavy and you will need at least a few people and a truck to pick it up. But an engine hoist would be best if you have it.

Kelsey Mercury Model P 5-8 Excelsior Hand Lever Platen Letterpress This is a fully functional table-top platen lever press manufactured by Kelsey& Company. As shown in the photos it is complete with all parts and ready to produce. This hand lever press is in good working condition. But has not been used in more than 40 years. I obtained it from a business sale in 1973 and have not used it for printing since then. The press still operates smoothly but the working parts need cleaning and lubrication to function at their best. Some parts have dried ink on them. But this can be removed with solvent. The original paint finish on the press is generally in good condition with few chips or nicks. There is no rust on any of the working parts. This late manufacture Kelsey Model P includes the l ocking bed feature not found on the earlier manufactured ... moremodels. It also includes an impression counter that is operated by the action of the press handle. The Kelsey presses are no longer in production and therefore will continue to increase in value as collectors acquire them. Information. Supplies and instruction for the use of the press can readily be found on the internet. The Press measures 24' long x 16' high x 14' wide and weighs 68 lbs with rollers and trucks installed. The press is mounted on a 16 inch square 3/4 inch thick plywood base. This is an excellent example of the Baltimore#11 letterpress manufactured by Baumgarten& Company. Unknown age. But approximately 100-125 years old. The Baltimore letterpress has been out of production for over a century and therefore continues to increase in value. Information on these types of presses. This 2-roller self inking table top letterpress is in very good condition(for the age) It was recently disassembled and cleaned. It still has the original paint and even some ink left from printing days gone by. This was not a restoration. Just a partial cleaning. The press is missing the rollers. Up for auction is a antique Baltimore toy Platen miniature letterpress. It does say"Baltimore" on it but I don't see a model# anywhere on the press. It was manufactured by Baumgarten and company. This press is more than 100 years old. It was probably last used in 1926 because that is the date on the paper that is still in the press. The press is missing its rollers and platen but these can be replaced. The color is black and the measurements are 12" long. 11" high and 7" in depth. It weights between 11 and 12 lbs. Used. In good mechanical condition. No breaks, no welds. Ink table spins freely. Both roller cores need new rubber. I found it in our warehouse yesterday and got the two owners to agree to sell it. I oiled it and took the rollers off, because the rubber was dried up, so I could try it out. It operated smoothly. This morning, I heard one of the owners of our shop say that he believed that it was one of the best ones that you were going to find, whatever that meant. It looks like it hasn't been used much to me. We can't find anything missing except the rubber on the roller cores. The cores and trucks are included. It weighs about 57 lbs. I have for sale a C&P platen dated 1923. It is complete with a friction clutch speed control. Original leather drive belt. There is a new 110V motor to go with the press. Works perfectly! It has a full ink fountain and all 3 rollers(great condition) and 2 chases. The drive shaft has a U so if a foot peddle was desired it could be easily added. Amazing condition!
