The rack is in great shape except for a few dents on the corners of some teeth I caused when removing it. Otherwise, the teeth look and feel new. Chalk up one for compulsive oiling. Keep in mind that the impression cylinder AND the cylinder frame have to be removed from the front to install this part. A few smaller assemblies also have to be removed to get to the 4 huge cylinder bolts. Which require a 15/16" hex key. The cylinder weighs a LOT less than I thought it would. I estimate it at only about 100 pounds, which can be handled by one strong guy(me) or two normal strength guys. The rack cannot be removed from the back, but ALL the installation screws and bolts that hold it in are only accessible from the back. The press was completely refurbished around 1980 and was used pretty much continuously for the next 15 years, when I got the KSBA. The vertical was then used only sporadically until about 2003. After 2003, it was used virtually never, maybe 2- 5 jobs a year. Most scratches and rust are only on the surface. I will tell you if there is any significant issue with a part. The heavy black arrow is slightly below type high on all three, as it was heavily made ready to maintain the solid, and has pressed down into the wood over the years of use. However, you can see that they are all in good condition, being sharp and clean, but will need considerable make ready to print as well as this proof. These were used by a market research firm. The idea was that information was collected(the open arrows) and collated and interpreted for the client(the solid black arrow) The large one is the configuration used by the company, but you can turn them to whatever direction you want, hence the two small ones pointing in different directions. These are 3 letterpress printing cuts(plates. Dies) mounted about type high on hardwood used in my grandfather's print shop years ago. They are line cuts, no halftones, and so are suitable for printing on all types of paper, from high gloss to chipboard. They are used and have no significant damage. As one of them was misnumbered by the factory, and one doesn't appear to be in the parts book. These parts all came off of the impression cylinder when I removed it. These parts are from the left side of the cylinder. The part#22051(not listed in book) can be seen on page 10 of the parts book, but no attribution is there. I would call it a left cylinder mounting bracket as it is the one that the two large mounting bolts go through to hold the left side of the cylinder in place. The part misnumbered by hand at the factory as#23853" as shown in the photo) is listed in the parts book as#23859, Ratchet Pawl Lock Collar. The three springs are#22265, Thrust Collar Springs. The other collar I can't easily find in the parts book, but it goes with these other parts. When the cylinder is removed, these parts just slide off the side. All parts here are in good to very good condition. The press was completely refurbished around 1980 and was used pretty much continuously for the next 15 years. When I got the KSBA. Part#22680 and the Control Valve Rod Assembly, parts#22476, 22475, 22477, TP-108, TP-100. This is the long steel shaft that most of the parts in the first VA parts page are mounted on, and the long control rod assembly that goes inside the bushing. They are in very good condition, with some superficial scratches and rust on exposed areas, but the very good condition is the product of lots of oiling. If you are looking for a very nice thick steel pipe to carry around in your car or truck for self defense(and you can claim to law enforcement that you are just transporting a press part) this is the one, but you need some upper body strength to wield it with dexterity. Remember, even John Henry had a 12 pound hammer, and this is a little heavier. The parts that go on the right end are also for sale on a different post. You will never need these, but if you have a bad jam, the cylinder impression may become uneven. You can fix this fairly easily by loosening the two large mounting bolts on the side you wish to adjust and sliding the shims down and re-tightening the bolts. That is why the shims are in a"C" shape: they slide down each side of the mounting bolt. There are 5 thick(about 1 point) and 7 thin(about 1/2 point, comparable to 12# paper) ones. They are used, stained, and some are a little bent, but all are usable and in good condition. I am pricing them a little high so one person will think twice about just buying them all up, leaving them available for more people. TELL ME WHICH SHIMS YOU WANT. If you do not specify. This is the Cylinder Gear(part#22152) Right Cylinder Mounting Bracket(my name for it, as it doesn't seem to be in the parts book) part#20152) and the Cylinder Stop Disc Assembly(part#23154A and most associated parts) The Gear has one chip on one tooth which can be seen in photo#3 as a bright flash. The stop disc had to be heated and hammered on the side to get it off. You will probably have to sweat it on. That is why there are hammer marks on the side of the disc, but it is only cosmetic and does not affect the operation. I will try to find the huge taper pin and two mounting bolts that go with these parts and include them later. All parts here are in good to very good condition. Vintage Letterpress American Specimen book of type styles
You are bidding on a vintage 100 year old book of type styles. Printed by the American Type Founders Company in 1912. Back cover and some binding coming apart in the back with water damage on the bottom part of pages in back with the part on machinery. Pages 1139 and on. Some of the front pages stuck together a little bit from water. The rest of the pages with the type styles and extras are good with dirt and dust from the cellar of a print company where it was found. It's heavy and dirty and dusty and has seen better days, But is still great for checking on type styles and the extras that went along with letterpress printing 100 years ago. A friend of mine is the owner of a Press Museum Print Shop and he explained to me what these blocks are. The block is laid on top of a type set form and tapped(on the leather pad) to make sure that the letters are pushed down and are all level before the form goes into the press The leather pads on top are to protect the wood from being split or otherwise worn as ... morethe block is tapped repeatedly on the top- for many years, in this case. You can see the black ink and scratches on the bottom. This is the result of being tapped gently(many, many times over many years) onto a form of type. What you have there are a standard size and a"mini" size. Both are quite usable as they are- although I would re-surface them on my belt sander before I actually used them. They are bona-fide antique. Could easily be 100 years old. The planers have age and use wear. Marks, dings, soiling to be expected of items estimated to be 100 or more years old. Letterpress printing press Craftsman Pilot C&P table top CHASE 6 1/2 x 10" type
Chase for a large table top printing press. I had several of these laying around. If I recall correctly I got them with a Craftsman brand table top press with a 6 1/2 x 10" printing area. They may also fit a C&P Pilot which is designed and made very similar to the Crafstman. I'll give you the chase dimensions so you can measure your particular press to see if it will fit. My chase does NOT have the little wedge protrusions on the side that are used to fit and mount some chases. My chase would nest into two feet at the lower section of the press and be secured with a movable spring loaded clamp at the top. This is an excellent example of the Baltimore#11 letterpress manufactured by Baumgarten& Company. Unknown age. But approximately 100-125 years old. The Baltimore letterpress has been out of production for over a century and therefore continues to increase in value. Information on these types of presses. As well as various supplies and instructions can be readily found on the Internet. This 2-roller self inking table top letterpress is in very good condition(for the age) It was recently disassembled and cleaned. It still has the original paint and even some ink left from printing days gone by. This was not a restoration. Just a partial cleaning. The press is missing the rollers. But new rollers can be purchased right here on EBay. All other parts are intact. Includes: Press mounted on wooden platform(wood has a crack in it) Two original ... morefonts(Copperplate Gothic#24 and#26) hand ink roller, 4 original roller trucks, misc. wood and metal furniture, extra type pieces, 4 tubes of ink(condition unknown) composing stick(lots of rust) and original manual(well abused) The press measures 12' long x 11' high x 7' wide and weighs about 12 pounds. Baumgarten& Co. produced a line of presses exactly parallel to Dorman’s. But used the name Baltimore instead of Baltimorean, and made minor changes in the castings. 4 Letterpress Printing CHASES Chandler& Price C&P Type-Frames 8"x12" 9x13 Up for auction are four letterpress printing chases for type. They are all made of cast-iron. Two of the frames bear the name"Chandler& Price" Along with the number 828 1/2, hash marks on the borders. The third frame bears the same number but does not have the manufacturers name. Instead it bears a Roman numeral, otherwise it is nearly identical. All three have rounded interior corners for lifting the type. All three are 3/4" deep, and have an interior dimesion of 8"x12" exterior dimension is 10 1/4"x 13 3/4" The fourth frame is slightly different, without any markings and an interior size of 9"x13" Condition is Very Good/ VG: apart from some mild surface rust the only damage to speak of is a cracked ... moreupper-right corner to one of the C&P frames. You are bidding on one: LETTERPRESS PRINTING COMPOSITION PRINTERS TYPE LEVELING WOOD BLOCK. This was used to level out all the type and wood blocks in the lock up chase before pulling a test print to show level of all elements. Dimensions: 2 3/4" wide x 2 1/2" tall x 6" long. It has great patina and still has the original built in cushion in the handle.

Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE This is a No.1 Vandercook Proof Press with everything you need to create an art press. Woodcut press, linoleum block, teaching or fine print business. I bought this press in 1974 and it has had very little use in all the years I have owned it. It was used to print facsimile pages for rare books that were missing crucial pages. It is in good condition and good for another 100 years of continuous use. It looks like it still has the original paint and it glides like a dream. The No1. Vandercook Proof Press is in my opinion the best of all proofing presses because of its brand. Girth, simplicity and size. Most Vandercook presses are big and very heavy; this press is practical for a small print room or garage yet has the stuff that great presses are made of. In other words it is manageable. Yet has the ... moreweight, print area and girth to deliver a powerful print with relative ease. I think it weighs around 400lb, can be moved by two strong people. If you have ever dreamed of owning a printing press get the best because it simplifies the entire print process and will always deliver the finest results. Take a look at the photos and everything you see is what you get. You get No.1 Vandercook Proof Press. I think I have 5 type fonts… two of them in type cases. One of the fonts is a large wood font. The other fonts I believe are Times Roman. Garamond or Century(but not sure) And there is one font that looks to be an art deco font of some type. Inks, type sticks, ink, rollers, various block prints and two chase. It also comes with an old metal base but it is not the original base. I have put a premium price on this press because the No.1 Vandercook Proof Press is very hard to find and this one is in good working order. I paid a lot for it in 1974 and I am sure it will only go up in value over the years. Plus it is a very cool item.
