Offered here now is this old Excelsior 5 x 8 letter press made by Kelsey and Company. It is in nice condition with original grey paint. There is normal surface oxidation and areas of paint loss. The mechanics all move smoothly. The paper on the tray is from the 1970s so this was still in use locally not too long ago. I believe this to be complete except for the ink rollers. Kelsey & Co. "Excelsior" printing press complete with Type drawers
This Kelsey& Co. Excelsior" model 5X8 press belonged to a Virginia family for several generations. It appears to be complete and functional. And operates easily. When received it still had the last print job set in it. The wood spacers had shrunk and the type fell out when it was moved however. All the springs. Rollers, etc appear in good shape. The press is all original and not restored in any way. The gold leaf is still present on the letters of Excelsior on the side. The press includes 2 wooden printer's drawers with type and the wood& brass spacers required to set it. This is a heavy cast iron machine(approx. 45 Lbs. Vintage Kelsey & Co Tabletop Letterpress Excelsior Mercury Model N 3 X 5
Here is a vintage Kelsey& Co Excelsior Mercury tabletop letterpress. Model N, size 3x5. Made in Meriden, Conn, USA. It works freely, oiled, maintained well. Has the rollers. The rollers were restored at some point and works great. The ink pan turns every time the handle is pulled. It measures 19" long, 15" high and 10" wide. It's ready to go and start printing, works good. Comes with some ink, the ink roller and some type and type holder. The ink is used. This was used for making retail tags. Parts/Fix Kelsey & Co Excelsior 3 x 5" Letterpress Tabletop Printing Press 1893
I sold this quite awhile ago for $300. However unfortunately the plate was cracked in two during shipping and another arm beneath the plate has broken. I'm sure there's people out there who can salvage the parts or perhaps even repair this to working condition. There is some light rust which can clearly be seen in the orange hue. Originally this was black with gold detailing. Much of this black patina and gold detail remains but it is far from complete. This weighs near 30 pounds(shipping will be based upon buyer location since it is so heavy) There is an April 6. 1893 patent date as well as patent numbers for England, France and Germany. I am not real familiar with these letter presses. So I won't be able to answer technical questions. This would need a fair amount of TLC to bring it back to life, but there are inevitably some ... moregood parts on here that can be used to go that route. Shipped based upon buyer location(shipping something this heavy out West can be very expensive) If I'm able to find a cheaper option than the one automatically calculated(USPS Parcel) then that will be used and I will pass savings onto you. You are bidding on a Kelsey Excelsior 3x5 model C printing press and lots of extras! I do not know much about these machines or the extras. So I've tried to fit as much as I could into the pictures to show you just exactly what it is you are bidding on. The press is mounted onto a wooden box that stores all of the extras nicely. There are old manuals and catalogs included, a wrench, rubber rollers with ink on them, several tray of letters and numbers, a 3x5 chase, and much more. The model C has a patent date of 1928. I've hand polished the entire press, and it cycles very smoothly. No breaks or welds. Rare and hard to find this setup so bid now or forever regret missing the opportunity! It is one of the rare ones that have the"Kelsey Excelsior" logo. On the handle. It says"Kelsey& Co. USA, Meriden, Conn. Size 3 x 5. It is missing the rollers. Of course. This is for the piece you see here. I believe that this is a very old handle to a printing roller. Possibly as old as 100 years but I really have no way to know.
