The gauges are made of finely machined aluminum so they will not rust and the magnets are strong rare earth mangnets! Simple to use! Remove tympan paper and all packing Place one gauge at each corner of the type bed Back off on the impression adjustment Close the press Put the press ON IMPRESSION if it has an impression control Then simply turn the adjustment nuts or bolts until the platen is level to the gauge at each corner Secure the adjustment locknuts etc The platen will now be adjusted to.040 OVER TYPE HIGH Now reinstall your tympan paper and adjust the packing Now for the two in one part. There are three square cuts. Each with 4 arrows. They are 3" 1 3/32" and 25/32" square. The largest one was used for report covers, the middle one for letterheads, and the smallest one for envelopes. The heavy black arrow is slightly below type high on all three, as it was heavily made ready to maintain the solid, and has pressed down into the wood over the years of use. However, you can see that they are all in good condition, being sharp and clean, but will need considerable make ready to print as well as this proof. These were used by a market research firm. Just discovered in an old printing building is this wonderful antique rolling cart/ table for one of those old letterpress! Oak base with cast iron top and casters- great Arts& Crafts look and great patina! It is held together by a bolt and screw method with exposed bolts. The cast iron top is made so that it cannot move once placed on the base. I tried to show this with the photos of the underside of the top. Condition: Just discovered in an old printing building. Nice used condtion, shows wear marks, nicks, scratches, dings, and dents from normal use. One caster has a chip off the corner and one leg shows some damage- see photos(I did not want to remove the added-on wood shelf holders, they are only nailed in, the new buyer can remove if they chose to) Measures approx. 40" high. This press has been completely disassembled. All painted parts were stripped down to the metal and re-finished with 2 coats of primer then 2 coats of color and a clear coat. All non-painted parts(pivoting rods. Ink arms, etc. were cleaned thoroughly. The fasteners in platen back and chase have been replaced with new stainless steel hex drive screws. The platen has been balanced to the chase bed with.040" packing under the tympan and is included with the press. The additional sheets of press packing included will allow you to change the packing under the tympan to adjust the print impression height as you change stock caliper. This is much easier than re-balancing the platen each time you change stock caliper. The press is currently packed to print on.012" stock. For example. If you wanted to print on.007" stock, you would add ... morea sheet of.005" packing under the tympan. As with any press, the condition of your type and blocks and the uniformity of the type height will ultimately determine the quality of the printed image. The type used to print the proof card was not new. Rollers& trucks are new. Rollers have only been used on this press(to verify press balance and roller& truck quality) to print the card in the photo gallery for this item. The press has been secured with stainless steel fasteners to a base made of oak which is stained& coated with a satin polyurethane. Back cover and some binding coming apart in the back with water damage on the bottom part of pages in back with the part on machinery. Pages 1139 and on. Some of the front pages stuck together a little bit from water. The rest of the pages with the type styles and extras are good with dirt and dust from the cellar of a print company where it was found. It's heavy and dirty and dusty and has seen better days, But is still great for checking on type styles and the extras that went along with letterpress printing 100 years ago. Letterpress 23" x 35" Barely Used Cylinder Press Steel Die Cut Jacket
This is a letterpress cylinder die cut jacket apparently for a 23" 58.4 cm) x 35" 88.9 cm) cylinder press made by Bar-Plate. A company that makes after market die cut jackets. It has a virtually untouched canvas tie down. What press it was made for is unknown, but I have used jackets exactly like this for Heidelberg cylinder presses. It has been sitting in an ex-wife's garage after the husband's business was disbanded and she has lost track of her husbands ex-employees, so there is no way to find out exactly what type of press it was for. Apparently, it was only used for two jobs before the business closed. There are a few small die cut circles on the otherwise pristine surface. There is also the ghost image of a kiss cutting job that has not made any permanent damage. Otherwise, the jacket is in brand new condition. The ... morecylinder that it was designed for is about 14" in diameter. My estimation that the sheet size of the press is just that: an estimate. The jacket actual goes for 25" but I haven't heard of a 25" x 35" press. The gripper edge has ten 1/4" diameter holes drilled in it. I even have some tricks to let me get closer to the gripper with a numbering machine, perf, and score, so I am disassembling the V-50 and selling it part by part. Doing it this way you will have the same or different information on each side of the tab. The printing has to be head to head. top to top) and each centered in a 1/2 by 1 inch box. This is an original Chandler& Price Pilot Press upper feed board bracket& feed board. This is the complete bracket with upper and lower parts and an original wooden upper feed table. It mounts directly to the underside of the lower feed board. If you don't have enough room for feeding on your C&P Pilot you might enjoy having a bit more surface area. The bracket assembly is in excellent original condition. But the board is a bit rough. You can either use it as-is or use it as a pattern to make a new one to match the wood on your press. Antique Letterpress Printer's Type Planer, Planing Blocks Leather Pads 6" + Mini
2 Antique Wooden Letterpress Printer's Type Planers. A/k/a Planing Blocks Both have leather pads on top. One measures 6" long by 2 1/8" wide by 1 1/2" high. Another is a"mini" and it measures almost 3" long by 1 5/8" wide by 1 1/2" high. Both are most likely made from hard Maple. A friend of mine is the owner of a Press Museum Print Shop and he explained to me what these blocks are. How they are used, and that both are very old"antiques" This is what he told me.the planers were/are used to used to level the type before printing. The block is laid on top of a type set form and tapped(on the leather pad) to make sure that the letters are pushed down and are all level before the form goes into the press The leather pads on top are to protect the wood from being split or otherwise worn as ... morethe block is tapped repeatedly on the top- for many years, in this case. You can see the black ink and scratches on the bottom. This is the result of being tapped gently(many, many times over many years) onto a form of type. What you have there are a standard size and a"mini" size. Both are quite usable as they are- although I would re-surface them on my belt sander before I actually used them. They are bona-fide antique. Could easily be 100 years old. The planers have age and use wear. Marks, dings, soiling to be expected of items estimated to be 100 or more years old. Leather hard, worn not soft. They are being sold"as is" as was found. Interesting items to use as explained above by my friend or to add to your letterpress printing collection to display.
