Chandler and Price Pilot Press letterpress tabletop C&P (Kelsey Vandercook)
We are selling our Chandler& Price Pilot Press. This press is unrestored. But is in full working order with all original parts(with the exception of 1 spring and the feed board) We have owned the press for 8 years and printed some projects on it, but our volume and sizes requirements forced us to work commercial letterpress printers instead. Since then it has safely sat unused in our studio. When we bought the press from a shop that had closed. We had it refurbished to perfect working condition by a Pilot expert in his shop. Other than some dust, its condition is unchanged from then. There are no cracks and no missing parts-with the exception of rollers. These were misplaced in a move, but new ones can be bought from NA graphics for about $100 each. All adjustable parts move as they should(impression screws nuts, tympan bales, and grippers) ... moreIt could use some cleaning and some oiling, but otherwise it doesn't need any further restoration to print capably for a long time. We're also including all the extra parts and tools pictured below. Other than rollers and whatever plates you'll be printing with. This is everything you'll need to get up and running: 3 6.5 x 10 Pilot Chases. A composing stick. 8 nearly full tubes of 1/2 pound ink(most unused) from NA graphics. Leads and slugs. Assorted furniture and reglests. 2 Challenge Hi-Speed Quoins(6" and 9" with Barplate Quoin key. 5.5 Kelsey Quoins and Quoin key. Some loose type and spaces. Most type is from small jobs that remained setup when we inherited the press. 10 gauge pins. Steel wool and 1 gallon Color Wash. 4 shop trays and a few other extras. We spent a lot of time and $100s tracking down these items. And getting them all with the press will spare you a lot of hassle. We've loved this press. Vandercook Universal I Power Test Press
I acquired this press in 1994 and it was very well maintained. This Vandercook was a go to machine for my shop. The adjustable press bed made it wonderful for printing metal and wood type and then you could quickly switch over to polymer plates and make quick adjustments to be up and running quicky. It also made it easier for printing woodcut blocks as well. This press has a foot pedal for the grippers. Adjustable paper guide, trip switch, automatic wash up, adjustable press bed with flywheel and lock, feeder light, added new power on and off box, and lots of storage. Comes with and extra set of unused rollers and 2 press locks bars It's 88 inches long by 36 inches wide and is about 1600 lbs. I bought this press in 1974 and it has had very little use in all the years I have owned it. It was used to print facsimile pages for rare books that were missing crucial pages. It is in good condition and good for another 100 years of continuous use. It looks like it still has the original paint and it glides like a dream. The No1. Vandercook Proof Press is in my opinion the best of all proofing presses because of its brand. Girth, simplicity and size. Most Vandercook presses are big and very heavy; this press is practical for a small print room or garage yet has the stuff that great presses are made of. In other words it is manageable. Yet has the ... moreweight, print area and girth to deliver a powerful print with relative ease. I think it weighs around 400lb, can be moved by two strong people. If you have ever dreamed of owning a printing press get the best because it simplifies the entire print process and will always deliver the finest results. Take a look at the photos and everything you see is what you get. You get No.1 Vandercook Proof Press. I think I have 5 type fonts… two of them in type cases. One of the fonts is a large wood font. The other fonts I believe are Times Roman. Garamond or Century(but not sure) And there is one font that looks to be an art deco font of some type. Inks, type sticks, ink, rollers, various block prints and two chase. It also comes with an old metal base but it is not the original base. I have put a premium price on this press because the No.1 Vandercook Proof Press is very hard to find and this one is in good working order.
