The lamp housing is apparently not the original that is supposed to go with this microscope. The lamp is supposed to draw power from the microscope base, but the lamp that is included requires an external power supply, which I do not have. I did hook it up to an adjustable DC power supply ... moreusing some patch cords(not included) and the lamp did power up fine. I examined some slides under the microscope, and the optics appear to be in good shape. However, this is the extent of my testing of this microscope, and it is being sold as-is. The spring mechanism on the microscope slide holder is broken. You can still move the arm over to hold the slide, but there is no spring to keep it securely in place.
