Triplett 630-NA Type 3 Volt- Ohm Meter Working.... Sorta... Please Read
This is a used and semi-functional Triplett Meter I've had since the early 70's. It's been on a shelf since the the mid 80's when I bought a very nice Fluke digital meter. I think there are times when an analog meter is better for some circuit testing. But I ddo't do much of that any longer. These Tripletts were the meter of choice. So. if you've been looking at Tripletts here on eBay. Let me give you a bit of info. These Triplett meters use two batteries to power the meter for testing. One is a 1.5v D size battery and the other is a 30v battery about the size of a common 9v battery. I put a fresh D size in it the other day to take these pictures and to show the meter works. The trick is. it may be rather difficult to locate a 30v battery to fill the other battery slot, since that battery design has a terminal on each ... moreend of the battery- not like a 9v where the terminals are next to each other. There was a 30v battery listed here on eBay last week. I don't know if it is still available or the availability of 30v batteries in general. One of the four screws holding the cover on went missing off my bench the other day. I think it jumped. it's like my hair, it doesn't just fall out these days, it jumps. The other item to consider is the pair of probes for the meter. I have included a red and a black banana plug and a pair of small alligator clips to be able to make up a pair of simple probes. Don't try testing any voltage by holding the bare clips. You must have insulated probes and they are available from a number of sources including probemaster.com. UP FOR BID: A USED. OLD TRIPLETT MODEL 3 TYPE 3 LOCAL LOOP TESTER. THIS ITEM HAS NOT BEEN FULLY TESTED. SO I HAVE TO OFFER IT FOR PARTS OR NOT WORKING. I DID INSTALL BATTERIES AND TURNED IT TO THE DC VOLT METER SELECTION. THE NEEDLE ON THE METER ZEROED OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO TEST THE VOLTAGE ON A 9V BATTERY ACCURATELY. THE LEADS ARE STILL FLEXIBLE AND HAVE NO CRACKS. YOU WILL FIND SOME SPATTER MARKS ON THE PLASTIC METER LENS. FROM SOME SORT OF OVERSPRAYED CLEANER OR ADHESIVE. THE PLASTIC DOOR THAT HOLDS THE LEADS IN THE BOX, IS MISSING ONE OF IT'S TABS. THERE IS A SMALL CRACK IN THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT.
