No need like the others that have the probes that you need to stick in the ground. All you do is set the dial to resistance and clip it over the ground wire and it gives you the reading. So simple it seems like you are missing something. It checks for ground leakage current in ma. and Amp too. Can be used as an Amp. probe too. It has an instruction book which doesn't make much since to me. I have the original shipping box and the sticker say AVO International DET5/4R/NA Earth Tester#5036175102596, Made in UK, US Cat NO DET5/4R. There is another bar code with these numbers as well: 6210-182/010101/2634, Recharge the battery before and I think the date 07/01.
