Up for auction is a vintage Wilton#1750 Mechanics vise bench swivel vise. This vise comes in excellent working condition. Works smooth, Great Vise the Jaws measure 5" wide, and the vise opens up to 6" This vise does also have pipe jaws it is missing one of the pipe jaws. Everything works great on this vise including the swivel. There is some paint loss from age, and use, but overall very clean. This vise weights approx. 45 pounds. Vintage Wilton Mechanics Swivel Bench Vise #1750 5" Jaw width Heavy Duty USA
This is a nice Wilton 1750 vise with a 5" jaw width and swivel. When I got it the jaws were in bad shape. At some point. The bolts holding the jaws on had loosened, but the user continued to use the vise which caused the bolts to break off inside the holes. I have removed all of the old, broken bolts. A new set of replacement jaws and perhaps some new paint is all that would be required to restore this to new condition. The replacement jaws and bolts are available for around $25 online. I will include aftermarket aluminum jaws. These were originally held to the vise with magnets, which have now been crushed, so they just rest on the jaw faces. The pipe jaws on this vise are slightly different than I have seen on other versions of this vise. But perhaps this is an earlier design. This was a model made by Wilton. Even though the Wilton label has long since worn off. This item is used, but functions properly. It has some normal use wear, mostly on the top areas of the vise grips(see Pictures) I am not sure how old it is. It belonged to my father. It could use a little cleaning as it has sat on my father's workbench for many many years. The vise is very heavy, weighing about 45 pounds on my scale(my scale has been wrong before, so give or take a couple pounds) The vise jaws open up to about 6 inches(see Picture#10) and the jaws themselves are about 5 inches wide. Wilton introduced the Tradesman series in the early 70's. This is one such model. This early model as you can see from one of the photos had a hallow base and it has tin pipe jaws. A number of pieces are not original to this vise. The base. Jaws, lock downs underneath with carriage bolts, swivel handles, side stickers, and spindle handle and finger savers are not original to this vise. There is no dust cap in back and looks like Wilton's Cadet from years previous, The base of the vise itself shows weld marks however its sitting on top of a modern swivel base able to rotate 360. Wilton / Snap On 1750 Swivel Combination Bench Vise 5" Jaws Made In USA Bullet

The big hunk of iron you're looking at is an absolutely stunning vise manufactured by Wilton in 1990. This is a 1750 combination swivel vise with 5" jaws and it weighs a hefty 46.5 pounds. You can see how large it is next to the full size BIC lighter. This is an extremely well made vise. Yes. This vise is painted with Snap On colors and the reason for that is Wilton manufactured these vises and sold them as their own Tradesman line but also licensed them to Snap On with no changes other than color. This vise could have been either sold as a Snap On or a Wilton. No original paint remained when I received it so it may have been either, there's no way to tell that I'm aware of. Even without knowing for certain ... moreI opted to go for the Snap On version with this restoration simply for a change of pace and, let's be honest, it looks great in red! I also didn't want to conceal the fantastic metal condition with hammered finish paint that Wilton uses. Enough about that. Let's get down to the nitty-gritty. There's a lot of brand new stuff here. I put on sets of new steel jaws plus new pipe jaws, each with brand new fasteners. The finger saver rubber washers are also new as are all the decals. I took this vise all the way down to bare metal with stripping gel and it's in absolutely wonderful condition inside and out. One of the nicest I've ever had in fact. Then I surface prepped the cast iron pieces, heated them to 200 ° and sprayed on three coats of Stop Sign Red enamel. Each coat was baked at 200 ° for 30 minutes. This makes for a decently strong finish. All of the steel pieces were cleaned up and made to both look and function perfectly. Finally. Everything was reassembled with long lasting synthetic lubricant on all friction surfaces. With a great starting point and so many new parts this was an easy job. Full specs at the bottom of listing. This auction is for a 1992 Wilton Tradesman 1750 with 5" Jaws. It was manufactured in Schiller Park. IL. This vise came to me in very good condition although dirty and with little of the original finish left. I knew it was a good one because the action was sweet right from the get-go and that's before I did any work on it at all. Just look at how nice the bare metal slide is on this one, excellent. This is early for a Tradesman and, for my money, one of the better ones. After receiving a warm. Soapy bath to remove all the dirt and grease the paint was stripped using gel. I gave this vise a complete inspection and it gets a solid A with no structural issues whatsoever; no cracks, no repairs and no welds. It's very nearly perfect actually. Each cast iron piece to receive paint was surface prepped ... moreand warmed to 200 °. Three coats of Hammered Finish Verde Green enamel were applied and all applications were baked on at the same 200 ° for 30 minutes each. As you likely know. I'm a fan of this process for its durability. A lthough difficult to capture accurately with a camera. Verde Green is a beautiful color and extremely close to Wilton's factory finish. You should expect this vise to arrive with a slightly more greenish hue than what you see in the gallery. It received new decals and new rubber finger savers on the handle. After that was done I cleaned up all the steel hardware and made it to work as new again and finally the vise was reassembled with synthetic lubricant on all friction surfaces. I don't apply to paint to any contact surface by the way. I have nothing but good to say about this vise. The in and out action is Wilton slippery-smooth for the entire travel length. The jaws meet up perfectly flush as you want them to and it has stellar clamping force. Even across the faces. The jaws are original but good enough that the decision to keep them was easy. Snap On Extreme Green 1750 Swivel Combination Bench Vise 5" Jaws Wilton bullet
Full specs at the bottom of listing. Undoubtedly there's an awful lot of Snap On Extreme Green fans out there so I see no reason why you guys can't have a Snap On vise in your favorite color. We all know that Snap On never released a vise in this color but I had a red one come my way that needed refinishing so here we are. To the best of my knowledge this is the first Snap On vise painted this color. I don't think it's any secret that Wilton manufactured these vises for Snap On and that's a good thing because Wilton makes some of the world's best vises. This is a very nice 46.6 pound vise with 5" jaws in outstanding condition. Action is terrific. One finger liquid smooth. The jaws are all in good shape and the surfaces meet up parallel with even clamping power. There is a small nick on the bottom corner of one ... morejaw but it's out of the way and won't cause you any problems. There's no structural damage, welds or repairs. The anvil area shows a few working marks but it's pretty nice actually. Nothing bad to say about it and you're going to love your new vise, I guarantee it. I'll tell you a bit about the restoration now if you care to read. It's a fairly basic method. After a warm. Soapy scrub bath the paint is stripped with aviation gel and final cleanup takes place with a quick media blast. I prep the cast iron surfaces for paint and then warm them to 200 degrees. Then 3 coats of enamel are sprayed, each one being baked on at the same 200 ° for 30 minutes. All of the steel hardware is cleaned to look as good as it can. New rubber finger saver washers installed, synthetic grease is applied to the moving parts and then back together it goes. The Snap On badges were worn beyond repair so I chose a set of decals which I thought to be a good fit. The finished product is a gorgeous vise that works even better than it looks. Wilton Tradesman 1750 Swivel Combination Bench Vise 5" Jaws 43 Lbs. bullet vice
Full specs at the bottom of listing. I suggest you bolt this one down quick because this vise looks like it's ready to speed off. I've painted hundreds of vises and. To be perfectly honest, it can get a little boring so it's fun to mix things up. I decided that a nice set of racing stripes could be interesting and I think it looks pretty amazing actually. The gray color is Satin Granite Enamel and the stripe/base color is called Satin Pimento but it looks to me like orange with a little red in it. It's a very nice looking combination and is immediately striking in person. The paint is three coats, applied to warm cast iron and each application was baked on at 200 degrees for 30 minutes. I really like this method and I think you will too. The entire vise was disassembled. Stripped of old paint and cleaned inside and out. All ... moreof the steel hardware was cleaned as well. I put all new threaded fasteners on this vise; jaw screws, collar screws and swivel lock bolts. All of the female threads were chased with a tap and work smoothly. The jaws, as you can see, are in very nice condition and line up parallel and flush, just as they should. Everything was put back together with synthetic grease on the friction surfaces. No paint is on any friction surface by the way. To cap things off brand new Wilton foil decals and rubber finger savers were installed. I need to mention that this was a well used vise when I got it. I know it looks nice but please don't expect to receive a brand new vise and this one was obviously in service. Things like the handle is not 100% straight. But it's very close. You'll find little nicks from tools here and there, mostly on the anvil area and towards the top front of the round bare-metal slide.
