Two Small Vintage Mechanic Machinist Hobby Vises Two Small Vintage Vises Machinist- Hobbyist This auction is for 2 Small Vintage Vices. They measure 5" by 4" and have 1 3/4" jaws. These are solidly made vises. They have 2 steel guide bars which makes for a nice precision fit on the jaws. The red one on the left in the picture below closes smoothly but binds up a little when opening. The orange one on the right opens and closes nice. They are both in very good working condition. The bottom handle on the orange one has a slight bend. There are no markings on the red one and the orange one has some numbers as shown. There is a small casting flaw on top of the jaw on the red vise as shown. These would be a nice set of vises for the hobbyist or for the collector. See additional pictures below. I KNOW THERE'S A LOT TO READ HERE BUT IT WOULD BE IN YOUR BEST INTEREST TO DO SO. This old vise is really nice. The action is as slick as any I've ever felt. It's just absolutely gorgeous all over, inside and out. Let me tell you a little about the vise in general and then what I know about this particular unit. The patented date comes up via searching as August 16. 1938. It was issued to the Reed Manufacturing Company in Eerie PA. The patent was applied for on January 14, 1936. Reed was the manufacturer and Craftsman sold it under their name. Craftsman has rebranded the vises they sell for as long as they've been selling vises, they are not a manufacturer but a reseller. The model is No. 5184 and the patent is No. 2127008. In the last photo I've posted a scan of the original Patent approval so you can see all of this ... moreinformation yourself. Specs on the vise are as follows; Craftsman(Reed) No 5184 Bench Mounted Vise Pat. No. 2127008 3" Wide Jaws Opens to 5 1/2" 2 1/2" Throat Depth 12" Long end to end. When closed 7 1/2" Tall overall Weight is 29 Pounds Now. About this particular vise up for auction here; When I got it the tool was a real mess. Spider nests, dust balls, dirt. just scuz everywhere. It wasn't pretty to say the least. I took it home and gave it a bath to see what I was working with. Then I completely disassembled every part and cleaned each one in great detail. The exposed metal parts were cleaned using electrolysis. Electrical current flowing through a neutral/base liquid solution. Everything was scrubbed down using warm soapy water and then dried with air. At this point I was able to give it a good inspection and I liked what I found. What I saw was no damage anywhere and in excellent shape. Yes. There is some light surface marks here and there from use but structurally it's 100% sound. The jaws are just in terrific condition, they look as if they've only seen light use. Sometimes I paint these, if they're in really bad shape but I just lo

It has two features which make it unique; The first is that it doesn't have metal jaws but ones made from polypropylene. This is a dense. Plastic-like material which isn't aggressive on softer surfaces. Excellent for holding things like circuit boards and model parts. The second feature is that this vise is reversible. That means. If you need extra distance you can unscrew the dynamic jaw so that it's completely free, swivel the main body 180 degrees and then thread it into the rear side. Desmond Stephan Simplex 43P Vise - 4.75" Jaws - Parker Collar Style Vice
Up for sale is a Desmond Stephan Simplex 43P vise. 4.75" wide jaws. 7.25" opening, 55 lbs, stationary base. It's a good solid old vise. There's about 1/2 turn of slack between tightening& loosening when you swing the handle. It's mostly due to the front collar design, there is also a little slack in the threads. I shimmed the mainscrew nut with a very thin piece of aluminum so it is in there good and tight. I didn't have a thin enough washer to put on the mainscrew face, if you find one you can probably get a little more slack out of it. I honestly think it is fine as-is, I have two other vises with the same design and they have the same amount of slack. You can see from the pics it's date stampped 1-40(January 1940) Made right at the beginning of World War II. The 21 I'm guess is a production number ... moreso they can keep the same parts worked together. The front Parker-style collar came to me broken. The previous owner admitting to me they were pounding on the handle with a hammer to try and get the slide open(it was seized) Took a week or so of letting Kroil soak on the slide to get it free. Obviously the front collar isn't designed for any force, it's just to hold the mainscrew in place as your open the vise. After blasting the parts clean I used some JB Weld to bond the two broken parts together. After that cured I drilled& tapped two holes on top and used a couple screws with red loctitie to hold everything together just to be super sure. Check the pictures for a couple close-ups so you can see what I'm talking about. I had some extra JB Weld mixed up from the collar repair so I figured I would fill in a little wear on the top front of the dynamic jaw. I think they must of used a torch a bunch. It looked like it was just eroded way right in the middle. The static jaw wasn't as bad so I left it as-is. It was completely disassembled and blasted to bare metal. I used the Rustoleum Hammered Green(I think) And lettered with a gloss black oil-based sharpie. Sinc

i have heard about these micro sized vises but have never actually owned one until now. from what i've read THEY ARE RARE& HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE! probably the 1st& last one i'll ever see& own. i purchased the vice at a ranch house estate sale& auction last year. i'm not sure how old this vise is but my estimate is late 1800's- early 1900's. i say that because most of the tools being sold were in that vintage. the family i purchased it from said the grandpa was the original owner of the tools being sold. the old man passed away in the 1950's. he had worked as a metal worker. Machinist& a jeweler. i bought this along with some old micrometers, calipers& a complete old 19th century Greenfield tap& die set(for sale in my other auction) i can't believe how small& stout this thing is! it ... morelooks like a REAL VISE BECAUSE IT IS A REAL VISE! this thing is HEAVY built very well. works perfectly. jaws measure 1 1/8" across. not sure who its made by from research i've done online i think it looks most like a Holands Reed, Prentiss or Chasparker vise but you be the judge. says No. 3 on one side& it appears like there is an eroded stamping on the other side. but it is clearly not legible.

1982 Duracraft 4" Swivel Bench Mount Vise MV-440 ( Wilton knock off vice. )
This vise was manufactured by Duracraft and is obviously intended to be a Wilton clone. While it's not as good a brand as a Wilton it also won't be as expensive as one and still. It actually feels like a halfway decent vise. The action is smooth, no snags in the main screw at all. One finger easy spin out and one finger easy spin in. I did take it apart, cleaned it up inside and out, gave it a thorough inspection and finally reassembled it with synthetic lube on the friction surfaces. It's ready to work, I saw no structural damage anywhere, just the usual surface blemishes from a working tool that you can see in the photos. There's no owner markings. So, while I lay no claims that this is anywhere near the most heavy-duty vise available it may certainly be an excellent value vise for your home shop. RESTORED Wilton Bullet Swivel Bench Vise 4" Jaws 50 lbs.1971 Made in USA vice
This is the last vise you'll ever buy. Unless you want more than one of course. This old vise is a real beauty. Big and heavy too. That is no small tree stump it's resting on. It wasn't this pretty when I got it. It had sat in a garage for who knows how long. It had about a 1/8" of house paint and crud all over it. It was just begging to be brought back to life. I cleaned it up as much as I could with soap and water and then media blasted it down to bare metal along with some wire brushing. It was completely disassembled. Everything that is removable was removed. After some time in the solvent tank, clean and apart, I could give it a thorough inspection. I was happy to find that the metal is still in fantastic condition. No cracks, no welds and no repairs. That's what you want. You can see it all stripped down in the ... morelast photo. After every piece was completely cleaned and prepped I was able to begin the refinishing. I chose Italian Olive for the color and applied a baked on enamel finish. It should hold up very well. The vise is quite handsome in person. None of these photos capture the color well in my opinion, it's more attractive when you see it. You'll also be stunned at its size and weight the first time you handle it. All of the moving mechanisms and friction surfaces have been freshly lubed with blue, synthetic grease. This vise is ready for decades of hard work. The action is simply fantastic on it. Your eyebrows will lift the first time you screw it in and out. I promise. It's hard to believe how well vises were made back in the day after getting used to the junk sold today in big-box stores. This vise has smooth face jaws and they are in nice shape. You won't need to change them for a very long time. However, a couple of the jaw screws are kind of bunged up where the Phillips screwdriver goes in. It's no problem, the jaws are in tight and the screws aren't going anywhere. However, the next time, maybe 30 years from now, when you change jaws out it might be a

up for bid is a rare polish style parker model No. 030 vise i have owned& collected many vises& this is the only one i have ever seen(in person) that looks like this. i know there is another one posted on davidsknowledgebase. probably the 1st& last one i'll ever see& own. i purchased the vice at a ranch house estate sale& auction last year. i'm not sure how old this vise is but my estimate is 1900's-1930's era. i can't believe how heavy. Well made& stout this thing is. works perfectly. jaws measure 2.5" across. the word"Parker" is embossed on the front, right above the handle. see yellow arrow in last pic) this is a very nice Chasparker vise. most of the original green paint is still intact, light patina& in excellent condition.

The vise was carefully reassembled with blue synthetic grease and it's ready for a long life of work. I was floored when I unwrapped the blanket holding this vise. I don't know how long it sat under a work bench in this garage I was cleaning out but the situation obviously kept it in like-new condition. I had to give it a mild cleanup and I did remove old lube and reapply some synthetic blue grease on all the friction surfaces. I'm going to say something that sounds like hot air but I'll say it any way. I've had a lot of vises pass through my shop but I think this is the absolute nicest one I've seen yet. It's in pristine condition and it operates beyond smooth, it feels very precise and very fluid. Just look at the jaws, both the main jaws and the pipe jaws, they look like they did the day they were cut. Every edge, every raised cast letter, looks as sharp and crisp as the day it rolled out of the foundry in Cleveland. ... moreThis is a magnificent bench vise that absolutely anybody would be proud to have bolted to their work area. I promise you, you'll find yourself fondling it out in the garage when nobody is looking and wonder where the time went. This vise was manufactured by Littlestown but sorry to say I have no idea when. I imagine it's fairly old. It cleaned up decently and will be a good working tool for somebody. It's actually bigger than you think. Do not expect a tiny vise even though other vises of this style are a notch or two down in size. This is not a small one. It looks decent and works perfectly fine, there are no issues with the mechanics on it. However, not all is perfect in Littlestown. If you look at the photos you can see a chunk of iron fell out underneath the dynamic(Front. jaw. This happens when somebody strikes downward with either too large a hammer or too much force. It's not uncommon to see this damage on vises. It could have easily happened decades ago. It genuinely has no bearing on the vise's performance, most of the jaw shelf is still ... morepresent and the jaw remains perfectly solid in place. Try not to smash it with your 5 pound sledge though. I did do a thorough cleaning on this with some fresh. Baked on enamel. The color is a deep, metallic green and it looks nice with a touch of sparkle. It's ready to go to work for you and I see no reason it won't last many, many years. Here is a heavy Vulcan No. 12 Superior Drop Forged chain pipe vice. This was made by J.H. Williams& Co. in Buffalo N.Y. It has a patd. date March 4. 1915 and Oct 26, 1915. This measures approximately 9" long and 7" wide. This appears to be in good working order. I do not know anything about this so please check out the photos and email me if you have any questions. Unique Amazing Quick Adjust Release Machinist Made Drill Press 4 1/2" Vise Vice
This has to be the coolest. Machinist-made, mill/drill press type vise I've EVER found! I don't really want to sell it-which is why I have the price so high! Features include 4.5" wide jaws, max opening of 5" stands" about 2.15" tall, quick release/adjust mechanism, circular opening on bottom of jaws to accommodate a bolt head or something similar, open bottom to both lower height of object to drill/mill and allow taller objects, internal opening of 3.5" by 5" If you examine pictures 2, 7 and 9, you will see the raised lever/catch. Raising the lever allows you to slide the moving jaw close to the object to drill/mill. Then the lever is lowered into one of the many grooves cut into the"screw" to lock the screw in place and the knob is then turned normally to further tighten the moving jaw to ... moresecure the object(see pic 4) It takes a tenth of the time to do it as to describe it! WHATEVER YOU DO. DON'T BUY THIS VISE(SO I CAN KEEP IT) Ask questions and check out the photos carefully as I don't offer refunds except when I make a huge error in the listing. Shipping is $9. RESTORED: Vintage Craftsman Bench Mount Swivel Vise 5" Jaws Made In USA vice
This is a big boy. It's a wee bit disconcerting when you first see it too. Typically when you see a vise of this style it will be a smallish 3.5" home owner's variety. But then your eyes are forced to accept the fact that this one is fundamentally larger. The difference between a 3.5" vise and a 5" one is fairly extreme. This vise is 15" long and stands over 8" tall. It opens to a staggering 7" There's no getting around the fact that this is a large and heavy vise. Speaking of weight. This clocks in at an even 40 pounds. Unfortunately that's going to make shipping on the high side so my apologies there, wish it wasn't that way, believe me. Now. Let's talk about this vise up for sale here. First off, the colors are Almond on the bottom and Navy Blue on the top. It's quite a contrast, ... moremight not be your cup of tea but it looks nice in person I think. There's three coats of each color enamel here, all of which were baked on at 200 degrees for a half hour. This system seems to be durable as far as paint goes, it's served me well at least. It opens and closes nicely. I'm not going to go on describing it too much because you have eyes and there's a dozen large photos to see that will do a far better job than my typing. There is a nice battle scar on this vise. You can easily see it. You probably already have. It's a nick where a person using a saw accidentally sliced partially into the cast iron of the stationary jaw. I really put some stress on the vise here and it's not budging. Unless you go beating on it with a five pound sledge(Please don't do that. I do not believe it's going to have any effect on using it. It looked to me like this cut has been on the vise a very long time and it's held up just fine so far. Also, the handle is not 100% straight but fairly close. So if you want a really big vise in that old USA style this might be a good one for you to take a hard look at. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Specs and dimen
